Speculation?
Lie Bot? Todd? Weldon?
-
Emeril
-
I wish he'd just keep up with the blogs he's already got.
-
Cartilage Head!
-
C'mon, Chucklebot! Everyone loves the ChuckleBlog!
Alternately, it could just be Gasps and Giggles.
-
Todd's blog would be interesting, if not repetitive.
-
I hope, it's Blister. But it won't be.
Emeril probably has the best odds.
-
I hope it's Blister.
BUT HOW ANNOYING WOULD A BLOG IN ALL CAPS BE?
-
I'm holding out hope for Nightlife.
-
Tina. We can hear all about American Idol and which $300 jeans are cool this week.
-
The wisest of words may come from the porous body of a bath sponge.
-
I'm thinking it'll either be one of the 'bots or a backdated version of the GOF blog. Emeril would be interesting, probably reading along the lines of a more-coherent Lyle, and Nightlife would be cool as well but he doesn't seem like the sort of cat (pun intended) who would be big into the Internet, or really anything that's not jazz, golf, or weed.
-
Scrambles.
-
Count me as a member of Team Leander! Shine on, you undeveloped, WWII-bomber-helmeted diamond, you!
-
It's Emeril, a trashspotting blog.

I WOULD HAVE BEEN (whoops) interested in seeing a Lie Bot blog, I mean, come one, could you ever trust it??? That'd be amusing.
A character that sort of disappeared would be nice too, like Andy, I'm interested in the sort of monolithic adventures that guy has.
-
Damn-ola, could you imagine anything more annoying?
Besides, it'd just be another female voice 'stad has trouble writing in and so, never updates.
(I like the idea of Nightlife, too, but I think the new guy is onto something)
I'm guess Tina's also the king of person who uses an exclamation point a minimum of every other sentence. Whether it needs one or not!
Hey, Spongebath does have a real name after all.
-
It's Emeril, a trashspotting blog.
~Paul
This can only turn out good ... wait, no, hell of such as good.
-
It's Emeril, a trashspotting blog.
Bah! Bah I say!
-
Spongebath's real name is sort of depressingly mundane. I understand why he needs a nickname.
I also continue to like the pseudo-formality of "R. Beef Kazenzakis," as if it was really, I dunno, Roderick Beefington Kazenzakis IV, and this was all slumming with the trashspotting.
Furthermore: trashspotting logo!
-
Give that man a prize.

It seemed pretty obvious what with Mr. Bear's recent excursion out with the crew. I am pleased with this of course. I also enjoy the name LeGoinegasque for various reasons, but are Melungeons often French on the paternal side? I do not know this.

1) Roderick Beefington is a good porn name.
2) So does Emeril not know that it should be "C. 'Roast Beef' Kazenzakis" or is he just being considerate of Beef's discomfort with his real name?
-
Also, from Emeril's profile (http://www.blogger.com/profile/21694568):
" For your birthday, your aunt gave you a maple syrup dispenser shaped like a rooster. Please write her a thank-you note:
no"
Hmmm.
-
I am happy with the return of Ray's Place and the start of Emeril's blog.
If Onstad wants to write a strip every other day and update blogs and other site features on the off-days, I would be down with that. Or if he just posts a one panel strip when he doesn't want to do something longer. But this un-official every-other-day-ness is lame.

Mostly he has to ward off the apes that huddle around him.

Y'know I remember thinking that back when he still was featured occasionally. A tiny can for you
sir ma'am!
-
Y'know I remember thinking that back when he still was featured occasionally. A tiny can for you sir.
Thanks, but I'm a lady.
-
In the many online discussion fora and also in the real cafés the sport of Trashspotting (le miroir) is arisen
The online discussion fora? Jough, did you make another invitation-only group on the board? TELL ME THE TRUTH, YOUNG MAN.
-
Thanks, but I'm a lady.
Right, That too.
-
Oh, Emeril? Eh, ok. I was thinking after I posted earlier and I figured it was going to be Barry Best. But at least he's going somewhere with the Emeril blog.
-
I like how nobody can have the first name Emeril without having their last name be a permutation of Legasse.
-
So, wait, what? We can e-mail him and become members? What?
-
So, wait, what? We can e-mail him and become members? What?
I think you are supposed to e-mail him with details of your own group. So how many of you guys are into trashspotting anyway?
~Paul
-
Y'know, I live in the kind of town where this sort of thing sounds like viable entertainment. Actually, though, if I can get some friends of mine to go for it, I would totally be up for starting something like this.
-
So how many of you guys are into trashspotting anyway?
I once had a plan to stalk someone's recyling bin. Does that count?
-
I once had a plan to stalk someone's recyling bin. Does that count?
I'm guessing it was to see their brand of dog food. I just can't fathom "wombat" and "stalk" being in the same sentence without "dog" being in there somewhere.
-
Well, you are not far off. Actually I wanted to see what kind of alcohol they drank. But I was going to bring the dog, because there is no better way to be inconspicuous when walking down the street in a slow, sniffing-around kind of way. And I am now stalking their dog instead of their trash.
-
Wait, so why was Molly making up a story about Beef's whereabouts?
-
The floweriness of Emeril's language makes me want to tie him up in a bin bag and throw him in a river. 'Please sir, do not solicit your inadequate vengeance upon the vessel of my eternal soul by extinguishing the flame of my worldly candle for I shall swing round to this existence to wreak havoc on you in an equally despisable manner', except with more words like 'primogeniture'. Eh, what the fuck am I on. At least Trashspotting is pretty awesome. As a starter, everyone should first post pics of their own rubbish, personal details included, to save others the trouble of stalking them (thereby fuck*ng their minds up with any luck). Reverse psychology.
While I may complain about Emeril getting a blog, I couldn't really think of a better candidate. Could you?
-

I would've voted for "strange character that seems to not have anything to do with the Achewood characters or story that will eventually intersect with the main cast in a way that is retroactively illuminated by the storyline(s) of the blog"... and we would've dealt with months of Chris sort of continually teasing us with hints of the association of this character to the other characters or... ways that the character could potential interact with the Achewood characters. And it'd go on and on and on until we eventually got so caught up in that narrative that we were no longer guessing how this guy/girl would meet our people, we'd just be interested in the story.
Only then would those lines intersect, in an out-of-left field manner.
But, y'know, that's a long vote to write in.
-

Or "internet."
-
I have been known to stalk dogs in real life too actually. But the real question here is - it is about to be recycling day in my neighborhood. Do I go out with my camera this evening? (And with the dog, of course, my faithful fellow club member and cover for suspicious activities on the street.) Or do I get a life?

I say go for it. I say don't follow the trends in your neighborhood, set them.
-
This is what will separate the men from the boys and the women from the girls, here. Sure, I'll go on a message board and discuss my favorite online cartoon. But will I start walking around inspecting people's trash because some of the cartoon cats do?
-
You're right. For example, I did all of this (http://www.rebsig.com/kogepan/achefood.html), but that was in private. Do I have the guts to take it to the streets?
-
The Bleeding Heart stem next to the devilled eggs for a lady was a nice touch.
-
Have I mentioned lately that everyone should buy the cookbook?
-
wombat, I want to steal and/or copy your fridge magnets.
-
The fridge magnets are made of polymer clay, the most common brand of which is called Fimo. It comes in dozens of colors and you bake it in your own regular home oven. You can buy it in any craft or art store. It was very easy to make it look like cartoon cats etc. I don't say this to minimize the amount of time I have spent in my life on Achewood-related craft activities - it really was simple, they are just well suited to the medium.
-
what I would have to do is print out some achewood panels and enlarge them to get the shapes right.
I am hell of artistically inept. A straight line? what?
-
C'mon, Chucklebot! Everyone loves the ChuckleBlog!
YES. You are a wise individual. This is the blog that is needed, and Onstad should take your advice and give you an award.
-
One problem with this attempted fad: I assume that many Achewood readers live in urban areas and/or in other areas that don't have curbside recycling.
Or maybe that's just a backwards Chicago thing.

I don't know of anywhere else that's pulling a scam like Blue Bag.
-

That fuckin' blue bag! I almost forgot about the blue bag! Spmeone is going to find a huge hole in the ground in Wisconsion, and it's gonna be full of those damn blug bags.
-
This thread has become quite mysterious. What is a Blue Bag? And why would being in an urban area preclude trashspotting? Urban areas that I frequent seem quite full of trash, and recycling too.

Well, where else would you recycle things ... do you have magic plastic/glass/newspaper chutes there? (because if so that'd be all kinds of awesome)
-

Yeah! It's much harder for me to trashspot, out here in the boonies. I guess I could go to the dump, but that not quite the same (although it does have its charms.)
-

In order to recycle in the City of Chicago, you have to buy Blue Bags. The recycling goes in the blue bags. Mysteriously. thpugh, you put the blue bags in the dumpster along with the rest of the trash. So you pay for the bags, but there is no evidence that your recycling ever gets recycled. It always seemed like a huge scam when I lived there.
When I moved to Evanston we got curbside bins. That was much better. Now I live on an island with NO RECYCLING. It's ludicrous.
-

Rural trashspotting can be fun because so much more goes out on the side of the road. I remember driving by one place that was very obviously being renovated inside (ie: 6ft. pile of debris by the driveway with lots of oddball stuff nearby).
Unfortunately, after poking through the pile for a few minutes for things to take home and smash I had a surprisingly angry soccer mom on my ass.
-
I could go trashspotting downtown, but I would have to fight off some guys who are already looking through it for cans. I'm not that dedicated.
It might be worth travelling to the more residential areas, but I don't know their recycling schedules.
-
I am thoroughly enjoying Emeril's "Steady-as-a-Train-Sharp-as-a-Razor"prose.
That women must truly be embarrassed.
-
Whoa, LOTS of new trashspotting clubs. I'm going to have to get moving. I swear the neighbors suspect something - this past week no one had put their recycling out before bedtime.
-
I saw that, nate_small. I saw what you were saying there.
Is his prose like guitar-playing, though? really?
-
I am thoroughly enjoying Emeril's "Steady-as-a-Train-Sharp-as-a-Razor"prose.
I noticed he has the Beef-like habit of using of "such as" to replace "like". I'm beginning to wonder if it's some Achewoodian slang distortion (ie: "hell of" instead of "hella").
-
I saw that, nate_small. I saw what you were saying there.

Yes. When I think Emeril LegoineGasque, I think Folsom Prison Blues and to a certain extent Ring of Fire.
-
There's no curb space in Chicago, so even if there was an actual recycling program that worked (most of the blue bags do indeed end up in the trash dumps), it would have to use dumpsters, not curbside bins. Digging through dumpsters seems a different game entirely.
-
so, I made a comment once about eating a cake out of a trash can. My college counselor person heard, and was very disturbed.
About a month later, she came up to me and started talking about Dumpster Diving.
It was awkward.
The cake was in a box. I saw the person put it in the trash. it was on top of all the other trash. There were only a few pieces missing.
It was grelicious.
-
George wanted an eclair. He ate from the un-bitten end. We understand, inev.
-
Speaking of dumpster-diving, I took a computer security class which basically ended up being a "security in general, and how you get around it" class. One of the many tidbits of wisdom I got from it was that if you want to go root through dumpsters (as in, office dumpsters, not food dumpsters, ick), bring a tuna giraffe sandwich, wrapped in tinfoil and then squished about. If anybody stops you while you're there, pull out the foil sandwich ball and start biting off pieces. Instant hobo appearance!
-

I've toured the waste management plant in Chicago and all the trash gets sorted, regardless of whether or not it's in a blue bag. So apparently some recycling goes on. The blue bags are totally a scam, though.
-
Oh, shit, so you you're saying one needn't BUY the blue bags? They are just basically a tax?
Why don't more people know this?
-

it's chicago. at some level everyone knows everything is a scam. after a while you either a: let it go or b: start to think of the $20 bill as a legitimate way of making friends.
but yeah, the blue bags were foisted upon the city by way of a sweetheart deal between waste management and the daley administration. shocking, i know.

Me and my friend (My friend and I) once ate a pack of Jaffa Cakes left outside with the rubbish. They were unopened, so no harm done, right?
Trash-Eating: More fun than Trash-Spotting. More life threatening, I guess.
-
Me and my friend (My friend and I) once ate a pack of Jaffa Cakes left outside with the rubbish.
So, I had to go investigate what a Jaffa Cake is.
It appears to be England's better answer to hostess products. Some kind of Sponge cake, fruit filling, and a chocolate covering. Then I uncovered its legal history.
Under UK law, no VAT is charged on biscuits and cakes — they are "zero rated". Chocolate covered biscuits, however, are classed as luxury items and are subject to VAT at 17.5%. McVitie's classed its Jaffa Cakes as cakes, but in 1991, this was challenged by HM Customs and Excise in court.[1] This may have been because Jaffa Cakes are about the same size and shape as some types of biscuit. The question which had to be answered was what criteria should be used to class something as a cake or biscuit. McVitie's defended the classification of Jaffa Cakes as a cake by producing a giant Jaffa Cake to illustrate that their Jaffa Cakes were simply mini cakes.
They also argued that the distinction between cakes and biscuits is simply that cakes go hard when stale, whereas biscuits go soft. It was demonstrated that Jaffa Cakes become hard when stale and McVitie's won the case.
Under U.S. media rule, I'd have to say that the lawsuit has to be a publicity stunt. The BEST PUBLICITY STUNT EVER.
-
I wanted to give a tiny can to the lawyers who came up with the argument about how things go stale, but I couldn't, so you get it, smick.
-
Oh man, Jaffa Cakes are so good. And Quavers! Quavers are brilliant.
I miss English junk food.
