Talking on the channel tonight we decided that you can tell a lot about someone by which strips they may have hanging up in their workspace and/or home.
In my office I have this (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=11052004), this (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=12072001), this (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=12202004), and this (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=07302003). I also have the cutouts because I spent a whole 8 hours of my company's time gluing them to nice cardboard and cutting them out.
Howzabout you? (Other comics are okay as well)
-
Let's see. I have Eyeball under nachos (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=10212003) up in my cube because kids suck. Bedtime (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=10102001) because it was probably the first one that I really really found funny after I was linked here.
And Liquor Cabinet Taste Test which requires no link.
-
Of course. (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=05232002)
-
My desktop, if that counts (http://achewood.com/index.php?date=08032005).
-
On my dorm room door: Philippe's Mouth (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=10152001), Killing Is Like Basketball (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=04092003), and this strip (http://www.nothingnice.com/index.php?pageNum_Recordset2=51) from Nothing Nice to Say.
On the wall above my desk: Friday Facts from Around the World (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=08192005) and George Clooney Is Learning Coptic (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=09122005).
-
Man. I feel like such a noob. I don't have any hanging anywhere. All I have is the two color silkscreen print that I never got a frame for.
-
I don't have any Achewood, but above my desk last year I had all of these:
Nedroid 1 (http://www.nedroid.com/images/spaceadventuresmall.JPG)
Nedroid 2 (http://www.nedroid.com/images/smksthree.JPG)
PBF 1 (http://70.86.201.113/imageserv2/temporary/PBF056BCPuppyWish.jpg)
PBF 2 (http://70.86.201.113/imageserv2/temporary/PBF005ADNoSurvivors.jpg)
The Parking Lot Is Full 1 (http://plif.andkon.com/archive/wc039.gif)
I'll have to print out some of my favourite Achewoods for this year.
-
OMG can we stick to Achewood? Please don't make me look up the links for all 25 other comics that are on the walls around here. I am not strong enough to resist on my own.
-
I don't have any, but I do have the first three volumes (signed!) in the can at my office.
-
I don't have anything hanging where I work, because I work alone in a scary place with bats and stuff. In the background there is organ music, playing ever so faintly. No one knows its source.
-
I used to (http://icomix.com/maze/comicpage/browse.php?index=584) have (http://icomix.com/maze/comicpage/browse.php?index=589) these (http://icomix.com/maze/comicpage/browse.php?index=590) four (http://icomix.com/maze/comicpage/browse.php?index=591), but then I moved.
-
I thought I posted this already, but it's not here now. Maybe I should stop posting drunk.
Anyway, what are these cutouts of which you speak? They would look purty next to our Wigu papercrafts.
-
I too don't have any hanging up, but have used some strips as desktops. Right now it's this one about web design (http://achewood.com/index.php?date=10292001), but it used to be Nice Pete's Bible fanfiction (http://achewood.com/index.php?date=01252005) and Mark McGwire's visit to Achewood (http://achewood.com/index.php?date=05022002).

Mite: Here you go (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=04222005)
I just realized by looking at your post time I've now spent 32 minutes of my life trying to find that for someone I do not even really know. I blame three things:
Onstad for spelling "Cut" as "Kut" (thus preventing me from searching properly)
My tired nature this morning thus making me sluggish and dull (Like Elvis, or Jesus)
MY COMPLETE LACK OF SHAME
-
Oh right, those cutouts. Forgot about those - thanks for the link!
I'm sorry it took so long to find. I do appreciate your hard work. I recommend becoming a straight coffee addict - waking up becomes a lot easier!
-
Do not be sorry, I was merely mocking me. (Oooh.. alliteration arrives around awakeness!)
You are quite welcome.
-
I have this (http://achewood.com/index.php?date=01112005) one. It's next to my bathroom door.

Hooray, man!
-
That's pretty much what I thought. Pretty much the only strip that I have read and then said, "I must have this strip!"
-
I think I will start imagining that I have this (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=11262002) one hanging.
If you ain't sold on Ray's arm positions then you are lying and dying.
-
I've never printed an Achewood strip to hang it by my workspace. Come to think of it, the only comic I've ever printed up was the first Fruit Fucker strip from Penny Arcade. But after reading this I've got the urge to print one or two Achewoods to tape to good ol' Ikea McPlywood. There's so goddamn many to choose from, though! This could take a while.

Roast Beef, you could see a rainbow turnin' out badly.
Classic.

Is your toilet water appropriately blue? Have you ever thrown a party for it?
If so, pics plz.

I've never printed an Achewood strip out to display in my space. I guess I think that posting strips and such in your space is basically for others, not yourself, and it would be totally lost on the others I work with. Why bother.
When I was in Houston I had this scripture printed out...
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you
~Paul

I love you man.
The feeling is mutual dear sir.

I never thought I was supposed to be amusing others with the things I posted at work when I had a work to post things at. And certainly not the 25 comics on the walls at home (damn, it is a little cluttered in here)... It's things that make me feel good to read over and over.
Same with your Scripture quote, isn't it? A reminder to yourself more than anything you hoped others would do? Because one thing I have learned in my current job is that there is no point in posting signs because only one percent of the public read them. If you can't get them to stop looking for the animal with a sign that says 'exhibit empty' I don't have much hope for them following the instruction to love their enemies.

When I go back to uni on Wednesday I'm going to put this one (http://achewood.com/index.php?date=12132004) up.
-
Huh. I have never had the desire to print out a comic strip and put it up anywhere. The urge has never arisen within my loins. One of my co-workers has posted up a inoffensive comic strip about a cat being happy it's spring, and that just struck me as a little odd.
I have a strong, snobbish opposition to putting things up on the wall that are not framed. I will not allow it.
I did get my SO a quality copy of a Maakies strip that he planned to frame and put up, but it mysteriously disappeared when we moved. Which is too bad because it is a cool strip. I'll have to get it again and do the framing myself if I want to see it up on our walls.
I did recently frame and hang my first ever piece of actual art. It is a pen and ink drawing. From a-far it appears to be a bird in flight, but close up, it is actually a bird skeleton, so long dead that there are only fragments of dried flesh and feather remaining. It sounds a little macabre, but it's actually delicate and beautiful. The artist (who based the work on a group of bird skeletons she found in an abandoned barn) had an entire show of these dead birds, as if they were an archaeological discovery. Each of the birds was named and ascribed a role within it's ancient bird civilization. My bird is Flinger. I don't know what his role was in the ancient bird society.
Our house's main floor is open concept, and the piece is hung on the north wall, so I can gaze at it while working at our kitchen island, or when seated at our table or on the love seat.

Side_show: Are you also one of those people with nothing decorating your refrigerator door?
-
Empty refrigerator doors are just weird. I suspect I will follow in my parents' footsteps and just accumulate magnets -- not magnets holding anything to the door, just magnets. In the shapes of states, ideally.
I'll have to get some strips to populate my apartment once I get one, I think. Right now there's nothing on my walls thanks to a fascist college thumbtack policy and a texture that ensures that sticky-tack and tape don't do shit. Sigh...

fuck*ng gravity! (http://www.bookofratings.com/fridgemagnets.html)
-
Empty refrigerator doors creep me out. My dissertation director had nothing on his fridge. We housesat once and we bought a magnet and left it on the fridge, hoping to convert him. I think it was even something useful like a magnetic pad of paper, shopping list type thingy. Next time we went back, it was gone. He also had a very neat office.
On the other hand, our fridge door is covered with cartoons and magnets despite the fact that the fridge is in a weird little alcove and you can't even see the stuff in any useful way. It doesn't matter. That's just what the fridge door is for.
-
Don't forget Magnetic Poetry.
-
Oooo - that reminds me I used to have magnetic Dilbert. Wouldn't magnetic Achewood be awesome?
-
Side_show: Are you also one of those people with nothing decorating your refrigerator door?
No, I have a full collection of mullet magnets including the "Shorty-Longback (sho-lo) and also a magnet of Ray smashing a guitar made from a sticker I got with my Special Girl shirt and a pizza delivery magnet. I have a massive collection of magnetic poetry, which I've failed to put up since we moved in six months ago.

Wow, if you screw up links they automatically default to www.microsoft.com. I think they bought out http//www.anything.com. That blew my tiny mind on this early, early morning.

hm. I don't have any printed out. My desk has: a bumper sticker for a really bad punk band, which the little White labels from the tops of cd cases are stuck to. a fortune cookie fortune (your dearest wish will come true. it did, but then it came un-true). an advertisement for an emo concert-- I dislike the bands, but the picture on it is really cool. A sticker from the front of my LP of "Spiderland". A sticker saying "This is Nirvana's First Album"from Bleach. a nametag with my name and locker number on it. the business card of the person who interviewed me for Washington University (in st louis!). A John Kerry bobblehead pin. My tassel from my... graduation hat. a postcard from Wash U.
and, the piece of honor: a medical warning label saying "call your doctor immediately if you experience mood changes, such as new or worsening feelings of sadness, depression, or fear". This is so going on the cover of an album of sad music written by me.
um,I need to print out some achewoods. hmm. probably one will be the one about nice pete killing someone and putting him in his van. I cannot for the life of me find it, but I would also put the one which ends with "heartbeatzz, the rapping dog who loves", because there was about a week of my life where I would think of that panel, say "the rapping dog... who loves!" to myself, and laugh uncontrollably.

That's during the toilet party when Lie Bot pitches the Shitandle to Ray and Ray wonders what is on his plate for the next day. I could just as easily go look for it but while the Yankees were losing I was drinking heavily so I don't feel like it. My bad. Next time, dude.
-
oh, wow, thanks.
also: I want to say something like "yankees suck! red sox! red sox! pay attention!" but, you were nice to me. you tried to help. So know that while I did, in fact, say this just now... I didn't really mean it.
