I don't have time to post a sufficient review at the moment, but I will when I return home from work this evening. My one sentance review would be "Full of youthful enthusiasm." I'll get back to you this evening with a full review, but there's nothing preventing the rest of you from offering your two pence.

Which is the nice way of saying 'too much punk!'

Don't shoot yourself in the foot, I love this mix. The punk levels are just right, plus it's all old school so it kicks ass. My favorite tune though is the Bowie. It's a tune I'd never heard before, what album does it come from?

Hunky Dory. I seriously recommend checking it out, it's excellent. Not quite Man Who Sold The World, not quite Ziggy Stardust.

Damn Judy, nobody wants to comment on your mix. I'm sorry.

I will comment!
I liked Judy's mix so much that I hosted it!! Or.. well I did.. until I fucked up the page. I will fix that momentarily.
I don't write nice long things because I'm not as skilled a reviewer as Paul, but the old-skool Brit feel of the entire mix was really rather nice. Golden Brown is always, always appreciated. Always.

That sounds like "I liked the company so much I bought it."

Not only am I the Founder; I am also a client.

I might have liked Judy's mix if only I had downloaded it before it disappeared!

oh whatever, it was up for like a month! What? Are you running like.. dial-up... in 1994?

Q thinks that I do not have a life. He thinks I have nothing else to do than sit around at the computer reading messageboards and downloading stuff. I can't begin to imagine where he got that idea.
-
Yeah, I would comment if I had downloaded it too...
I do have a sketchy stolen wireless connection (shh... I just need a router and can get legit internet very soon), but that isn't the reason. I just.... forgot.
From the setlist, I do know a few of the songs and many of the bands.. um yeah.. I can say, I may have liked this.
I ditto 'Golden Brown'. a friend put that song on a mix long ago for me and it is still a favourite till this day.

Would that be the Mr. Hal Andalucia mix that our Bozack made, because that's where I got it. That's right Judy, you chose the same song as Bozack. You should wih a prize for that.

Nope, I sadly missed out on that one :\
It was from someone I traded with in person a few years ago.

Yes I know, i've got problems.
Ok, here it is...
Before I get to the music I'd like to say a word about the philes themselves. They are HELLA fuck*ng LOUD!!! They top off the volume on my I-Pod at level 4.
The disc starts out with a piano number, Widcome Flight/MacClaine Colston which serves as a great calm before the storm intro into the disc. We are then treated to a seven song block of old school punk rock which is broken up only slightly by the reflective Bill McCai. I tend to forget that punk rock can be very melodic. This is especially true among British punk bands. The pace slows a bit in the middle and we are treated to a series of delightfully whimsical songs highlighted by the delightful Kooks and the delightfully creepy Statue of Liberty. The disc drags a bit then picks up again with Golden Brown which is just a great song. I've got to listen to more music by this band. This is followed by A Town Called Malice which I am loving, but I wonder if 15 year old Judy even knows that it is a total homage to (Love is Like a) Heatwave. The disc winds down with the Belle & Sebastian song with the Spinal Tap inspired title that Judy takes his name from. It's a lovely denouement for the disc. The music overall I would charecterize as containing much youthful excitement. It's a very innocent and optimistic disc, yet also mature. Curiously there are two songs about lost youth which seems an odd choice for a 15 year old, but perhaps he's included these as cautionary tales to himself to live life to the fullest.
To use Judy's rating system, this disc is VERY SWISH!!!

Paul, I thankyou. An excellent review by all accounts.
1) The opening track is actually played on the hammered dulcimer for all you folkies out there.
2) Town Called Malice at the end? I worry that you've received it in entirely the wrong order, but it's not like I put any structure into the songs anyway.
Thankyou again Paul!

What is the proper order of the songs?
