Title: O! for a muse of fire, that would ascend the brightest heaven of birthdays
Post by: Doc on March 01, 2007, 02:55:36 pm
You are a new person but have proved yourself of the highest quality and possess a rockin' avatar. I guess what they say is true and linguistic ballerinas fit in everywhere.
Best have yourself a likewise awesome birthday. There will be cake. If everyone is on their best behaviour, there may even be a pinata.

Happy birthday, Mof! May you somehow get involved in a dance about obscure language rules!

(What's your screenname in reference to, anyway?)

And what's your preferred abbreviation of it? Could it really be Mof?

Thank you all. These are some of the kindest birthday wishes I've received today. *hugs all around* I really appreciate it. Made my day!

You can certainly call me MoF if you like. It's super fun to say. My screenname is a reference to Shakespeare. It's from the opening lines of Henry V. The full text including the line is:

O for a Muse of fire, that would ascend
The brightest heaven of invention,
A kingdom for a stage, princes to act
And monarchs to behold the swelling scene!
Then should the warlike Harry, like himself,
Assume the port of Mars; and at his heels,
Leash'd in like hounds, should famine, sword and fire
Crouch for employment. But pardon, and gentles all,
The flat unraised spirits that have dared
On this unworthy scaffold to bring forth
So great an object: can this cockpit hold
The vasty fields of France? or may we cram
Within this wooden O the very casques
That did affright the air at Agincourt?
O, pardon! since a crooked figure may
Attest in little place a million;
And let us, ciphers to this great accompt,
On your imaginary forces work.
Suppose within the girdle of these walls
Are now confined two mighty monarchies,
Whose high upreared and abutting fronts
The perilous narrow ocean parts asunder:
Piece out our imperfections with your thoughts;
Into a thousand parts divide on man,
And make imaginary puissance;
Think when we talk of hosss, that you see them
Printing their proud hoofs i' the receiving earth;
For 'tis your thoughts that now must deck our kings,
Carry them here and there; jumping o'er times,
Turning the accomplishment of many years
Into an hour-glass: for the which supply,
Admit me Chorus to this history;
Who prologue-like your humble patience pray,
Gently to hear, kindly to judge, our play.

I chose it because I consider myself more of a muse than an artist, and for various reasons (which I won't go into here) I identify with fire, personality-wise.

And now, I'm off to dinner with friends, to celebrate!

Thanks for celebrating with me here in this space. *blows out the candles*

Happy Birthday, MoF! I'll bake you a cybernetic red velvet cake with delicious rich frosting, but unfortunately it will be a cyber-cake so it will taste like microchocolate chips and wires. Sorry!

Chuanoplast, that sounds like the awesomest birthday cake ever! I look forward to it. *beams*

And I made the cyber cake out of actual cybergredients. It is not actually edible to humans. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bobatea/sets/72157594566684671/) I bet a computer virus or a trojan hoss would find this cake delicious because it has fruit in it.

Edit: It is not actually edible to humans? What kind of bizzaro grammar is that. The saddest thing- I don't know the correct way to phrase that.

Is "chuano" the proper nickname for "chuanoplast"?

Not knowing what that means, I'm kind of at a loss.

I'd think the prefered would be "chewy" but... again, without definition, I can't say for sure.

Let's ask chuanoplast!

*looks pointedly at the cyber-cake chef*

Chuano is a fine nickname, as long as it rhymes with "guano."

"Chewy" works too, but I'll probably forget what it's referring to and get confused.

Don't eat the cyber cake!

Don't eat the cyber cake!

This seems like a statement that would work on a t-shirt. Maybe with a vintage woodcut-type-drawing of a man with a cake made of components.

that's really funny, because when I went to Amsterdam they told us "Don't eat the Space Cake" and I really wanted that to be the name of my band.

Also: Muse, I apologize, I thought I had posted some birthday wishes here. Happy Late Birthday! You seem like a pleasant and kind person.

Happy Birthday, happy mirthday.  Don't eat the cake until you've mashed it around with your bottom.

I think that's an either/or thing, Paul.

Well, not necessarily but...

You'd better be REALLY REALLY sure of your bottom-cleanliness.

Like, right after a thorough shower.

Or, I suppose, you might not have to if you're into real fucked up stuff.

One or the other.

It is supposed to end up so smeared and mashed and mixed with other things that it would not be possible to eat it. OK?

The headless Harry Potter is supposed to guard against these sorts of things happening!

I just have to say, I was moved to tears of mirth while reading the quotation from Henry V, including the following Jough-mask-ism:

Piece out our imperfections with your thoughts;
Into a thousand parts divide on man,
And make imaginary puissance;
Think when we talk of hosss, that you see them
Printing their proud hoofs i' the receiving earth;

Burie'd in the Bard's flowery prose we find "hosss", which I take to be the plural of hoss.

Okay, there's absolutely no excuse for me to have missed this one.

Happy Birthday, Muse.  Be careful mashing the cyber cake around with your bottom - you wouldn't want to electrocute yourself.
