I have never really gotten the Stocks thing. I mean... they are selling a lot of stocks because they are worried that the world market is going down or whatever... but... the value of the stocks only goes down if everyone sells them. So, everyone sells the stocks because they are afraid everyone else will sell them...
there has to be a less ridiculous way to do this. I know that a thing's value is only what people will pay for it but... it basically seems like Stocks are an entirely fake concept. Do they have any value other than as little pieces of paper that people will buy from you, in hopes of later selling them for more money?

LFM, when will you realize that economics is what I know, and writing fiction or couriering things is what you know. I spend every day studying and watching the economy, its my thing, its what I do. My full-time job is learning about the economy. I make a simple statement about a current event in America and you go on writing fantastical statements about bubbles, con jobs, and market manipulation. Stick to what you know.
Oh what the dogg?! We are about education.
-
Well, sort of.
Most stocks are issued "No Par value" these days. About the only place par value is relevant anymore, that I'm aware of, is in insurance companies. The par value of the stock is the company's "capital" and the amount paid for the stock above par value is "surplus".
Careful, A-Cap might shout at you, too.
"You are a salt-miner. Get back to the salt mines. Leave the talking about stocks to the smart people."
-
If you do, I insist that it be called "A-CAP Yells At Everyone Who Isn't Him For Trying To Discuss Economics In His Presence."

I thought I remembered when we were all basically cool to each other. Is that my imagination? I thought it was real.

I have no doubt, AC, that you understand a certain school of economic theory... its rules and applications and so on... far far better than I do. Definitely.
I also don't believe that it is a school of thought that really works for all that many people at all and basically only applies in the real world because a bunch of people all decided that if they put that theory forth as the only real theory of how trade can work then... maybe momentum would build and they could basically have all kinds of stuff themselves.
I believe that they certainly work on small scales for small periods of time but over vast amounts of people and vast amounts of property... over generations... they degrade under their own weight into class strata that have nothing to do with the economics of competition.
They certainly seem air-tight in books and I'm sure you know exactly how air-tight these things are in books but... they don't really work for most people who don't have a lot to begin with, certainly not over large periods of time.
They're not a healthy underpinning for a large society for very long. Great checks and balances and regulations and counterbalances need to be leveled against its machinations to make it actually work and... once Reagan's handlers started dismantling those counterbalances, an end game was set into motion that would eventually destroy the middle classes that made our nation stable.
Ten years? Twenty? Two generations? Who knows.
I know you know your stuff but I think that the things you know your stuff about, that topic can only go so far in an actual nation of people as opposed to numbers in a book.
I could quote you scripture and verse about the fictional universe that the X-Men live in and that would be all great and awesome but... people don't actually shoot force-rays out of their eyes and so my deep knowledge on the subject only goes so far.
I know more about the underpinnings of Christianity than most hardcore Christians do but since I don't believe that most of it happened literally and some of it not even figuratively, it's just a nice thing to talk about at parties that doesn't really work in most cases.
I feel the same way about the current schools of unfettered macro-capitalism.
It works for a few people, it works in books but it is of little use to the reality I've seen in my life.
-
...who is this new poster with an avatar of a cat nose?
Hey fuck you pal.
Nah, I'm just busting your balls. I noticed that we had more than one person with cat or cat-like avatars, so I figured what the hell - gotta change it up on you guys. Remember when I was Al Green?
-
If you do, I insist that it be called "A-CAP Yells At Everyone Who Isn't Him For Trying To Discuss Economics In His Presence."
OK, that was irresistible.
-
I spent a brief second being terrified that apparently I had started a thread with this name somehow, by accident.
I don't know if I agree with you, LFM... I think that economics does a good job of what it is for, which is figuring out how people will behave with their money. The problem lies in assuming that "the way things are" or "the way things would be most economically successful" is the same as "the way things should be."
-
Well, Nev, that's basically what I'm saying.
It works as a beast of its own and it works for the purposes of a few people some of the time.
But we have this problem of confusing ourselves as a nation with ourselves as an economy. We are an economy, certainly, but we are definitely a nation of people so many times before we are an economy and... it is convenient to a small group of people to make us forget that.
In my own small and probably useless personal way, however, homie don't play that.
-

Exactly! If only there was a way to buy stock in Amer . . . yulp.
Sorry, threw up in my mouth there a little bit.

I don't like this thread.

We create our world and our studies of it from the base of our assumptions about it.
Transnationally monopolistic variants of capitalism, which is what you seem to be refering to as "economics", exists but that is hardly to say that it works, especially the evidence of how it is hollowing out our country.
Mixes of tightly-controlled free-market and government-centralization of basic necessities have worked all over the place and certainly are also "economics". Hell, Soviet communism "worked" for a lot longer than the current yee-haw cowboy unbridled Wal-Mart scorched-Earth form of free-market theory as "worked"... and they're all three "economics".
The market does not regulate itself, if that's what we're talking about. The market creates competition for a little while until someone falls into a natural advantage which is quickly pressed into monopoly through the pressure wealth can put upon government and law and then...
There are no more market forces, there is just the survivor of long-past market forces that mutated into a force large enough to game the system toward itself. Game the system into allowing daytrading and predatory lending and all sorts of shadiness because more money can be made in the short term.
And it all eventually cascades into Big Troubles.
Yes, that is as it has happened, sure. But largely because the economic forces that got so large bought out those who would regulate it and went into a short-sighted greed-spiral.
If we start from the idea that whatever happens is what works and that whatever happens is right, sure, that is exactly economics, I suppose.
But I am inclined to choose a different path.
-
Oh Goddamn, we are not descending into that varying text style point by point rebuttal shit, please. This is not goddamn Fark.

Man, look... I realize you're parsing out the word "monopoly" in a particular way because you want to win this as a debate, man, but how about "monopoly in all the ways that matter"?
Name any robber baron industrialist from the old days that you'd like or Sam Walton and you've gotten started. The collusion of the oil industry as a monopoly in everything other that admission. C'mon, man, seriously.
The Soviet Union "worked" to the extent that it was a nation and functioned as a nation for around seventy years and the post-Reagan clusterfuck version of America has "worked" that it has functioned as a nation for around thirty years.
How many millions has our economic model killed through the co-dependent allowance of murderous slave labour all over the globe in our colonies in everything but name? We haven't had nearly as many years, remember, our little China operation is going great guns, however.
But we might be coming from such different angles that proper communication on this matter might never happen, Ash may be well on this point.
I wanna talk about this on one level of it and you wanna talk about it on a different level of it.
I would taste the wind but there's rain in it and the rain out here tastes awful.

I think A-CAP may have a problem with realizing that the economy is not the end-all and be-all determiner of our existence. There are other forces at work, man.
LFM just has some issues from when he was a pup.
Now that I've said this, Marvel will probably make a comic about how he was a panty-waisted 19th century cripple boy and disprove my theories, but whatever.
-

Probably right on both points. There are days I don't know where the issues end and I begin, fersure. Makes for good creative writing, also makes for being a cranky crusader other times.
To paraphrase ol' man Jasper: "That's a can-in'."

Man, look... I realize you're parsing out the word "monopoly" in a particular way because you want to win this as a debate, man, but how about "monopoly in all the ways that matter"?
Words have meanings, dude. I'm using the word monopoly and it has a real meaning.
-

A game that everyone quits before it is over?
-
The term monopoly (from Greek mono(μονό), alone or single + polο (πωλώ), to sell) can bear two main definitions:
1. In Economics, monopoly (also "Pure monopoly") is a persistent situation where there is only one provider of a product or service in a particular market. Monopolies are characterized by a lack of economic competition for the good or service that they provide and a lack of viable substitute goods. [1] Alternatively (a modern and less common usage), it may be used as a verb or adjective to refer to the process (see Monopolism) by which a firm gains persistently greater market share than what is expected under perfect competition. The latter usage of the term is invoked in the theory of monopolistic competition.
2. In political discourse, the term monopoly is frequently invoked as a blanket generalization in criticism of firms with large market share or lack of what's perceived as "fair" competition. [2]
So.
-
A game that everyone quits before it is over?
Try Monopoly Jr. My daughter busted me yesterday, and cackled about it.
-
Words have many meanings and they vary upon context, along with other things.
Ain't no one thing that only means one thing under the sun.
Referring to the old robber baron types as having "monopolies" was probably not strictly true because they had some minor fringe competition that survived for being under the radar and incidental but they still functioned as such and still were refered to with that word.
There's precedent to referring to functional monopolies as monopolies... that's all I'm sayin' to that particular point.
EDIT: what 'Nev said.
-
Well it is a discussion about economics. Do you bust into threads about punk music and say they are not realizing there is more to music?
All the time.
Well, I guess it was because I was thinking about the whole "no monopoly has existed outside of government" thing. Which is, as far as I know, true. But, it's also true that no economy has existed outside of government. There's a whole lot of synergy(to use a corporate buzzword) floating around in the relationships between businesses and government. I'm sure that you won't disagree that the partnerships between business and government have produced some shitty situations in the past, but to say, "Well, it's the gubmint's fault," that's a cop-out.

To paraphrase ol' man Jasper: "That's a can-in'."
Isn't it "a paddlin?" or is there a different episode where he's all about the cane?
I am bringing the paddlin' here today. I am mod paddlin, so listen up, because I only spank when it must be done:
Arach-no: LFM said something a while back about not wanting to be a "playwriter" and I only went so far as to correct him on the terminology - that there is no such occupation and that the term is "playwright." When it comes to the area you are training in, or the one I have a degree and years of professional experience in (and when it comes to plenty of other professions) people on the outside will look at such roles in society with the tiny scads of knowledge they need to know to feel that they do not need to know any more about the things we do and why we do them. They will dismiss what we do, because it is easier. You can call that ignorance on their part, or you can come to terms with the basic truth that there is more information out there than any one person can ever know. Even though you love something, even though it defines who you are and even if it is the reason you get up in the morning, even if the things you are doing are "right" to you, are things you know to be "true" through the study of long proven knowledge from great minds that really matter, none of this matters when you're speaking to the broader community. While many will welcome what you have to share, other people will dismiss these things, maybe even come to totally uneducated conclusions about these things, because their energy is meant to go elsewhere. If you choose to specialize in a particular field, especially one that takes extensive training to comprehend, the only way you will reach those outside your field is by doing brilliant work that actually changes lives. You can go through life carrying an "I'm with stupid" sign, pointing it at all the right people, or you can put that energy into better things. No matter what people will dismiss the things you value - on this board and in life. So you can fly off the handle and attack, alienating even those who might otherwise agree with you or want to learn from you, or you can speak/write/post with a tone that doesn't shut people down and set off a flashing red asshole light over your head. There have been a variety of times since your arrival here where I have agreed with you on an intellectual level, but where your lack of tactfull expression has made it impossible or at least uncomfortable for me to want to stand by your side. TOUAMB is not a competitive debate club, and it is not your duty to pounce and rip your opponent to shreds. There are no opponents here, and you are way off the mark if you think otherwise. It is your approach that is way off. You have been here long enough that you should have picked up the intricacies of how things work here, so you are either being insensitive to the balance that keeps this a place worth posting to or you are intentionally ignoring what has worked and are choosing to be a dick. I don't know which one it is. I have often felt that you express your intelligent and at times valuable insight in a way that lacks consideration and maturity. It is fine to take pride in and stand up for what you care about. It is not okay to be a dick about it. I am asking you to a) put more thought into your tone, and b) to not call out specific board members until you've figured out how to do so more gently and/or with good humour. You are basically on watch. I am not just speaking for myself here.
LFM: Seriously. seriously... I have edited everything from novels to plays to short stories to essays to news papers, and you honestly need to focus on editing your posts. If it takes you three to four sentences to get a single thought out, that might work for other writing styles, but not for the person to person communication of a message board. I have noticed other posters are excited and inspired by the things you have to say, and it's often a specific sentence or two. You need to distill it down. Seriously. Come on. You are a writer and you know this shit. You know that style and voice vary in each medium you write in. You also know that you don't trust yourself and that you don't like to flat out say what you mean because you are self conscious. I promise you will be all the better at mastering TOUAMB if you say "I think/believe/heard from Nabu that __________" then follow it up with some LFM style sparkling wit or self deprecation, rather than leaving us to kinda, sorta, maybe know what you're getting at after half a dozen sentences or more. Being vague and leaving things open to the reader can work hella well for a novel, but when it comes to communicating person to person, that sort of shit leads to misunderstandings. And if "misunderstanding" is the common defense you have for people getting irked by your posts whenever it happens, then take responsibility and put in the work to ensure that it is impossible to be misunderstood.
Look folks, I am teaching theatre and writing to the HIV positive crowd right now, folks who have lived in the gutter, who live in the gutter, don't have stuff to eat and wake up everyday knowing they are dying and that almost no one gives a fuck and that they will not be getting fucked. And they can write their truth. Through all that they can get their shit together and show up at a meeting place with their "A" game. So basically don't act like you don't know your shit. I am asking for your "A" game, because you have had awesome opportunities and the educational tools to be able to express yourself properly. Because by now you should be schooled in this board and how it works. You may have had a bad day, this may be a bad year, but for fuck sake take some time to put care/and or humanity into what you are writing here. I am not up for piss ****** shit like this thread. You've got the skills to use the written word to express yourself in ways that don't need to lead to this. You've got the brains to know when to walk away. Look at the time frame between some of these snappish posts! Three minutes? Ten minutes? Do you need time out like three year olds? Calm youself. Put some thought and care in to your posts. Or if you can't and too many buttons are pushed for you, step back and move on to another thread or another board or use that tension to beat off or something.
I do not have the motherly qualities of our noble JL, and she has far more important things in her near future. I am unwilling to change your diapers or powder or asses. I am ready to call you on your bullshit. Stop this. It's annoying and it's a waste of your talents.

OH SHIIIIIIT

Some days there are just not enough cans.
Thankyou for being you Smells.
-
SHUT UP AL GREEN!
Oh we got the feelin' now.
-
Twas definitely a reference to "a paddlin".
You definitely have a point, ss, but there is an extent to which... man, if I wrote second and third drafts of message board postings, I'd probably have to choose between the internet and... everything else in my life.
That would take an enormous amount of time for a pleasant diversion.
But I will definitely think about what you had to say... there's ways to apply some of it without going to that extreme, certainly.
-
Drops science.
*Swoon*
Thank you. I sometimes skip past or lightly skim some of the longer posts, but that one is worth reading - and re-reading. I am also guilty at times of not taking enough time generating a quality post, and I think that this forum is valuable enough to me that it's worth the extra time. However, I think my frequent breaks help.
-
Somewhat belatedly: What Smells said. But a vote against Nabu's frequent breaks.

Thank you LFM. It is not about writing up draft after draft. It is about developing the skill to self edit as you write. It is not about spending more time on this, it is about spending the exact same time, distilling what you post down to maybe even 50% less content wise, and making that 50% less you put out here the straight truth as you see it. It is also about not feeding into these regular cycles that you are getting into, cause that shit is not healthy for you and it is very bad to watch from the outside. You are worried that I am asking you to agonize over things, while I am asking you to agonize a lot less. You need to trust youself to say it straight, without padding or without holding back. You need to trust yourself to the point where if someone disagrees, that you can keep it clean and walk away. If you put the effort in, this will become second nature really fast and it will strengthen who you are as a poster and teach you new things about being a writer, and maybe about life. It's an invitation to step up handed to you on a sliver platter. Don't be lazy or make excuses, don't shrug at a beautiful opportunity.
-
More sense.
Oh you better believe that's a (tiny) cannin'.
-
Yeah.
I think the thing is... when I write a script, I am writing with the idea that I will edit it fifteen times before I show it to anyone... when I write in my journal, I'm of course not editing because it is my journal and...
As I've been writing 10-15 pages of first draft of a novel a week, I am writing in the one format where brevity is... it's still important but it is of the least import of any format because it is THE long form of the English language and...
Yeah.
Bad habits I've fallen into. I'm sure that sitting around waiting for a new job to start hasn't helped.
I'm also ridiculously passionate about empathy and human dignity needing to be the first and foremost rules of the public sphere and so this subject...
Yeah.
Things to think about, ss. Thank you sincerely.

haha.
I swear to the Great Spirit, the colloquial tone works much better as script dialogue and in prose when the narrative perspective is that of a character. Double-swears. For better and for worse, I spent years trying to teach myself to "write like people talk" and though I am hardly perfect at it, I am better than most.
Writing science-fiction where the narrator talks in "early Rick Linklater dialogue meets Bukowski poetry meets Breakfast-of-Champions" ranty-ramble is a goddamned hoot, lemme tell ya.
-
man. i need to have you people read my stories for my fiction class. I have a feeling that my professor is too nice to tell me my writing style is bullshit.
I mean, maybe I am better than the guy who always wants to read the stories he writes to the class, and they are such as
I woke up to the scream of my neighbor-- a beautiful blonde in her mid-20s
...
I broke down her door just as a man rose his fist to strike her. I quickly pulled out my colt 45 and shot him in the center of his chest
...
as she fell into my arms, passionately kissing me, I thought "mmm, this was a good day."
whereas mine always end up turning into, you know, this guy who is kind of having a normal day, and at the end there is some kind of fake-smart twist, and ohhh isn't life beautiful and complicated. I need my professor to say "have you been watching too many movies for the past few years. write something that doesn't make me want to buy a poster of your story and put it up in my dorm room to pick up artsy chicks."
At the same time, of course, I think that the stuff I write is Awesome, because it is exactly the kind of stuff I like to read.
-
Dude, you have a class with Nice Pete?
-
Gotta write what you would like to read and then roll the dice and hope.
Took me years to figure this out and I still ain't made a buck of it.
But I'm working toward it and that realization has helped.
-
Inev, from your description, your classmate's stories sound more like old pulp stories, but not as cool.
-
I just got to t his thread and I hate it.
...
I hate that people want to censor other people.
I hate that it appears that our posts are now going to be checked for quality.
Whatever this thread was about before it got split, it certainly has become something dreadful.
I hope that my spelling, syntax, punctuation and construction meet the demands of the mods here from now on....
-
I thought about getting into this, but just the offchance that it might get grumpy with you Dawg, I just don't want to chance it.
-
I'm not grumpy. I'm sad. This thread makes this board look like something I hope it was never meant to be. Better off dynamiting it (the thread, not the board), covering it over with six feet of concrete, building a wall around it and walking away. I mean, even the title has subtle meanness to it, and even more so to someone who hasn't been here before. There's just something wrong and different here. It bothers me.

Thanks so much. I am glad you are taking this to heart.
I had some really amazing writing professors and dramaturges over the years, and one specific nugget of information that helped me greatly early on was being told to be truly committed to the work to the point where you always write like you are writing the only/last draft. It's selling yourself out to work from the assumption that you can't get it right the first time, and it's a big time waster. Yes, if your work is getting produced/published you will be going through rewrites. The goal for the process of rewriting should be to aim for minor adjustments and well understood, valuable additions for illumination of the text. That doesn't mean that cutting doesn't happen, but it's not the goal or the focus of the editing process. Writing something with the expectation that you are going to cut it later is like going out and intentionally having a child knowing full well it will be so stupid or ugly that you will probably need to kill it later. Pointless, painful, unnecessary. I mean, seriously if you're into self-flagellation, take it out of your artistic process and find a lady to whip you and call you bad names every so often.
But this is not writing class. This is owning up time, and I honestly appreciate that you have owned up and committed to being a better messageboard poster.
I know from seeing the little "who's reading this" thing-y that A-CAP has lurked here long enough to know where he stands too, so I'm going to leave this thread open long enough to ensure he has time to say his piece if he wants to and so that everyone who feels the need to add to this can, but I'm going to lock it tomorrow afternoon. I am sorry to everyone who came here to talk about economics, and especially to Carlos, cause' that post is pretty damn fine, but this situation was in autorepeat free-fall and needed a fixin.
Providing education and/or discussion on economics, the stock market, softly lamenting that we didn't all invest in gold or oil, etc. (especially due to the state of these issues right now) is a damn valuable thing too. If there is interest I will move Carlos' post and start a new thread with it. I honestly know so little about such things that I have nothing to add to such a conversation.
-

Oh, I didn't mean that you were grumpy - I just didn't want to say anything that you might take in a way I didn't intend it. I know you have things going on and I don't wish to add stuff, you know? I figured that we are knuckleheads from small times (in messageboard terms), so why not just let it wash away?
-
I got to say, I mean, look at the thread title; what did you want?
On the other hand, I wish A-CAP would have made more sense instead of just arguing so I could maybe understand.
Also, the "market" turned itself around I guess?
-
I've fallen in love with Melanie again.
-
I just think its unfortunate that instead of moderating the discussion, a thread was made by moderators to directly antagonize a situation that had already ended. LFM either intentionally or unintentionally made a comment that pushed my button. I called him out on it and that could have been it.
Also, An "economics" split I think is a long time coming because it comes up in other threads, even without me.
-
Careful, A-Cap might shout at you, too.
"You are a salt-miner. Get back to the salt mines. Leave the talking about stocks to the smart people."
I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that this thing, that I did here, was supposed to be funny like a joke would be.
-
As was the thread title meant to be funny. And it's the sort of joke that you could only make about someone who was recognized for better or worse as an authentic member of the community, who has foibles that everyone knows about. It could just as well have been called "LFM Goes On At Fantastic Length About Life, The Universe and Everything" or "Wombat Splits Thread in Terror of People Not Being Nice to Each Other on the Internet." But V beat me to a better one and I used it.
I wouldn't make a joke like that about someone who I didn't feel some vague affection for. It was certainly not meant as an attack.
-
I really am sorry about the subject line; it was intended as a basically-affectionate joke directed at someone whom I believe to be an intelligent and interesting member of the community, however much we might disagree. I apologize for offending, A-CAP.

Do we all get to have make-up sex now?
I hope so - that's the only reason I stuck around.

intentionally or unintentionally
For whatever it counts, definitely unintentionally.
I am about thirteen years too old for arguin' on the internet just to argue.
I am still pretty-much the right age for being ramblingly passionate about what I believe in, however.

Do we all get to have make-up sex now?
I hope so - that's the only reason I stuck around.
Now we're cooking with gas!
Heh... I <3 you guys.

To quote our all too rarely present founder (for the second time this week, no less!)
Let's not start suckin' each other's dicks here...
-
Maybe just a group hug then?

What he don't know about won't harm him any.

Oh, you are a good kid! The make-up sex happens in the new thread orgy where you basically save us form ruin.
I want to make 100% clear that I know you are not a dick in your core, and when I say "don't be a dick" I am looking at you and knowing you for sure are so full of potential awesomeness, and I am wanting you to shine because I know you can. If you are going to be the guy you plan to be when you finish with getting educated, I want you to be the kind of rich guy most people look at and say "yeah, I am glad he has all that money. He is the kind of guy who you can't fault for making the smart choices, cause he doesn't make me fee like shit for making the wrong ones." I mean, tombstone-wise "Rich" is nice, but "Rich and Beloved" is just that much nicer, and so is the life that precedes it.
And LFM, I already said lots of nice stuff about you, but I want your epitaph to be "Wrote an extensive list of masterpieces of the human soul" not "Writer who's single great work was published posthumously due to unending self-doubt."
So, you know, make that happen and start here and now, alright?
Why am I writing about death? Because I was starting to worry about TOUAMB going down. I mean I really, really, really avoid smack down unless it comes to a point where I think we are losing what allows us to talk to each other - because... um... that is all we do here. "Here lies TOUAMB - turns out people can't find common ground" is not flattering to any of us!
Now if it hasn't already been started, please A-CAP, start a thread where you tell us practical, actual suggestions we might sort-of comprehend of "how to avoid dying at our jobs." I think we can all agree that we don't want to die at our jobs, right? I mean, we have a fairly reasonable common ground that none of us want to die before we retire, if at all possible, right? An across the board desire to avoid suffering is a good place to start this right, I think. Because I seriously, seriously want to know.
Tomorrow: Make-up sex!

Despite how desperate and manic and hopeless feeling I might seem here at times, ss, I started a novel four months ago and I am now 28 chapters and nearly 100000 words into its first draft. I continue to push forward, the doubts not quite quieted yet pushed aside nonetheless.
Two of my greatest heroes, Twain and Vonnegut, did not start to get their shit together as writers until their late twenties after many many missteps trying to be other things. I can't imagine being half the writer either was and yet to even be a quarter would fulfill me and sustain me and it is a nice template of living anyway.
I am pushing ahead now, despite having spotted my inner demons a generous head-start, I run as fast as my pasty little legs can run.

If we're having make up sex I don't want any of LFM or A-CAP. After this thread those seconds would be extremely sloppy methinks.
I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that this thing, that I did here, was supposed to be funny like a joke would be.
For what it's worth man I thought that was funny as hell.

Wait, can we just keep this thread and let it go in its own crazy direction (like all the others-pubic hair) as a point of pride?

I've taken out what I could of the actual stocks/economics posts and split them to here. (http://touamb.com/index.php/topic,4231.0.html) Since some posts left here were both discussion of economics and part of the whole bad turn/phoenix rising up from the ashes thing, I kept them here to avoid backslide in the actual economics thread.
I'll leave this thread open as per the can King's request.
Thanks again to all for talking this out.
