Oh yes. It's like that.

There isn't a single word on that sign that doesn't make me extremely happy. Those are all great things.

Bah, I say ice water trumps all that shit.
-
I like lots of different drinks, but I like ice water so much.
I wish I didn't ever crave soda, but it is a reality of my life. The good news is, while it is very hard for me to turn down a coke that is sitting in my house, it is really easy to decide not to buy coke. I am bad at predicting my future wants, and this is a good thing when it comes to deciding not to buy coke.
-
Ted, where is this?
I first saw it over on Jalopnik. (http://www.jalopnik.com) According to them, it's in front of Daytona's Sports Bar in Des Moines. The presence of the smushed dirt track racer would seem to confirm this.
-

Is it your signature drink? Do you crave the stuff?
-
lately i've been drinking less than a coke a day, which is awesome right. i crack it open after lunch and it lasts till well past the end of the work day. i do not know when this change came about; i do know that i like it.

Ice Water (http://www.flickr.com/photos/pmcd9/4158952662/)
So good!
-
ew, ice water, I can't stand it .. the boyfriend loves it too, meh.
-
Kendra is sweet, but obviously a little confused about ice water.
-
How can you not like ice water? Whey does her boyfriend play into it.
Also, a young lady I used to work with would drink hot water, from a kettle with nothing in it. I had never seen anyone do this. She was all "I know I'm like an old lady!" And I'm all "What? Old ladies drink hot water -- without tea?" I have never met anyone else, old or young, who drinks plain hot boiled water. WTF?
-
Chinese folks do this. I don't know what its about either, but living & working in California, I encounter a lot of folks from mainland China and many of them settle down for lunch with a steaming cup of hot water.
-
I was embarrassed to say so at first, but I also hate ice water. Can't stand it. I don't like the taste, the temperature, or the texture. IF (and it's a big if) I drink water, it's got to be cool at its coldest, but preferably tepid. And be chock-full of Crystal Light or something. I hate pretty much everything about drinking water. However, I do like to shower in it, swim in it, and eat things cooked in it.
-
On no account will a commie ever drink water, and not without good reason.
-
Left to my own devices, I'd basically only drink ice water and hot coffee. Snapple in a pinch at a truckstop with bad coffee. That's it.
-
i only really like snapple for the 'real facts'.........
-
i drink cold filtered water, but i cannot abide ice in my drinks. i like sparkling water, and i was surprised to discover one that actually tastes cleaner, different and better. still, no ice. also: at a soda fountain, i put just enough ice in to keep it cold, and don't use a lid or straw, and usually finish it before i drive off.
ice is awesome for keeping things cold but it ruins every potable.
-
My wife is one of those bizzare people who fills the cup with ice, then adds soda. I can understand it when a vendor rips you off doing that (although the margins on soda syrup are already so extortionate it hardly seems worth the effort) but to shortchange yourself? Plus, she gets mad at me if I bring her a cup of soda with just enough ice to keep it cool.

That is supposedly how tea was discovered. The Emperor of China was having a walk around his garden with a cup of hot water, and a tea leaf dropped into his cup, and instead of pouring out the now-brown water, he decided to drink it anyway. Good man.
-
This "drinking plain hot boiled water" thing confuses the hell out of me. I have a half-liter mug at work and drink about 2 mugs full of green tea or yerba mate each day.
I love water, though. Chilled from the Brita or ice water. Either is equally awesome.
-
you know what i coul d use right now/
probbaly some water.
-
two cubes
that's the perfect amount of ice

What the fuck, I thought I split this. We're still talking about ice water over here in the bacon thread?
-
Sure, extra water from melting ice dilutes your drink.
But without it, the drink cannot be SUPER COLD.
I will take super cold and 'lute, any day. Any damn day.

I like my soda as cold as I can get it so I'm with your wife on this one.

When we remodeled the kitchen we got a fridge with a filtered water dispenser inside. I insisted that this was a needless complication but everyone said I would come to love it. The water that comes out is ice cold. As it turns out, 90% of the year, I drink the room temperature water out of the Brita pitcher on the countertop instead.
-
Every time my roommate has guests over she always has to replenish my soda stock. She's always legitimately surprised that her guests would rather drink my cold Pepsis than her warm Cokes.

Someday soon, I will have a fridge that dispenses ice cold, filtered water. That is awesome.
Also, yes jaydub, I also complain when I get a movie theater bev that's 99% ice and 1% soda. However, when I pour myself a drink I want as much ice as possible. I'll accept the continual refills at home in exchange for icy cold goodness. I have noticed that ice is a pretty important issue when it comes to drinks. My brother in law, for example, got offended when I started mixing rum & cokes for everybody with my customary amount of ice. He only wants 2 ice cubes in his drink, ever.
-
I haven't drank in at least 5 months, but i remember that there is a huge difference between drinks and drinks, you know.
I agree completely with your home/out ice strategy, but when it comes to liquor or mixed drinks 2-3 ice cubes max.
-
sometimes when I drink mixed drinks I overdo it on the ice, as a way of watering it down... and then slowly use less and less ice over time to ease myself into drinking big-boy drinks.
I find that gin and tonic, though, just needs a lot of ice to taste right, and be cold enough.
ice water though, that is some good shit. yeahhh.
-
when i've gone a few days without a coke, i pop the can and guzzle down about a third of it, and i cry a little.
-

I have never got into the habit of tea, although I take it here and there, and support it aesthetically. Reading Pearl S. Buck's "The Good Earth" (by the way, stop what you're doing and go read it now) I was made aware that to the poor peasants of China, "tea" meant hot boiled water with (few, few) leaves thrown into it. When the young Wang Lung throws one or two fuck*ng LEAVES too many into his bowl, his father scolds him saying someting like "What, you impudent fool, do you think you are rich?". An eye-opener (did you see what I did here), if nothing else...
Apparently the bedouins are fond of hot water, too? Like, you would think they would prefer some ICE COLD WATER, but they drink it hot so as to equalize their inner temperature with the outer? Bobby, where the fuck are you?
BTW: For the next TOUAMBIEs, a suggest a new category: "best thread out of the thinnest of premises"...

Best tea with the fewest leaves.
everyone on both sides of my family are tea drinkers, and I didn't realize that this is rare until college. People act like this means I am from another planet.
Actually it's just a thing where like, south americans like tea, and irish people like tea, and they continued drinking tea when they moved here.
now I am trying to think about whether it is a stereotype that these groups drink tea. maybe I am making up a fake stereotype to justify what I know, which is that my family members all drink tea and not coffee.
I know my grandparents still have Tea Time and invite people over and stuff, so it is definitely a Chilean thing to drink tea.
-
yerba maté is super popular in south america, i wish i could find some good maté; up here in atlanta. i would drink that instead of coffee and coke.
-
If you're in Atlanta, you're probably legally required to drink Coke.
-
let's just say i don't go to the rare places that serve pepsi
-
Down here we have a "Pepsi Twist" which is pretty good. But regular Pepsi is hella crass here for some reason.
-
No, that is just Pepsi.
-

Is there a coke mafia that enforces this?
-

See if you can find a south american or Latino grocery store in Atlanta. They might have some in bulk that you can buy. They probably have bombillas too, but if you can't find them they are sold at Whole Foods too. Or you could just buy a teaball and brew it like that. You can also make yerba mate shots with an espresso machine.
The best and cheapest way if you don't have a grocer around is to order yerba mate on the internets. I keep planning to do it...our grocery store here sells a box of 25 yerba mate teabags for $8.99. I buy them anyway.
-
then i am going to whole foods on payday.
-
Doesn't JL's husband drink some weird ass tea? Was it yerba mate?
If you're in Atlanta, you're probably legally required to drink Coke.
And if youre at N.Y.U. coca cola is explicitly banned by the entire institution because the student council one year was offended that coke never answered a letter from them about... funding paramilitary operations in south america.

I thought of this post the next time I made tea. I was making Oolong tea, the leaves of which can (and should) be reinfused, as the flavour and quality improves in the second and third flush. I made the first flush, and knowing it was better on the second go-round considered throwing the first steep out, but I didn't want to be wasteful, so I drank the first flush, leaving the leaves in the strainer in a neat, out of the way place in the kitchen. I went back later, and they were gone. I was astonished, and at first thought one of the cats had eaten them, than I asked my husband (who normally takes days, if not weeks to pick up after himself and had a massive pile of dirty dishes of at least that vintage waiting to be washed). For some reason he had instantly thrown the leaves in the garbage right after I had made the tea. I didn't call him an impudent fool or anything though.

There are lots of universities that don't have contracts with Coke because of the assassination of union organizers at Coke bottling plants in Colombia.

Yes, he does drink yerba, I think we had a thread about it one time.
Yes, we did. Here it is:

Is "impudent fool" something you normally call him when you're angry? Are you some kind of ancient Chinese sorcerer or something?

Oh shit, after thousands of years, I have been discovered. I should have known the quiz master would uncover my identity. In order to properly balance chi, I must bestow with tiny metal cans of liquid.

I find that when it's cold outside like it is at the moment I drink less ice cold water, but when I do drink I still want it icy cold.

I have drunk such limited quantities of water this week that I am actually severely dehydrated. My lips look like the Crypt Keeper's right now. My kidneys are beginning to be noticeably sore. I must rectify this pronto. (Man, I hate water!)
-
Do what I do, drink beer instead.
-
Water is good for you. It loves you and wants you to be well.
-
Unless you're an alien in a movie with a stupid plot twist.
-
or you're in mexico

I have drunk 16 oz. of coffee, 20 oz. of sugar-free lemonade, 8 oz. of plain tap water, and about 8 oz. of Archer Farms wild berry flavored water today. This is a good day for liquids for me. I will finish the rest of the 20-oz. bottle of AF water and I will be dehydrated no more, as that is about double the fluids I normally drink daily.
-
I find SmartWater is the best water for water's sake. I am still searching for the best mineral water/wine combination.
-
The owners of my workplace are a little nuts about having hip bottles of water to give to clients in meetings. I've tried a bunch af the different ones they've had in the fridge, and most tasted like plain ol' tap to me.
The only one that I really liked was Speyside Glenlivet mineral water. No relation to the distillery other than it is bottled at the source in the same area in Scotland.
-
I like Big K Sparkling Water. It's $2.10 for a 12 pack at the Kroger. Plus it's bubbly and wet, thus satisfying all of my containerized water desires.
-
I can't really get used to sparkling water for some reason. The only bubbly things I like are alcoholic.

Oh god, that shit just vanquishes the hell out of a hangover. Well, that and a few bites of a real breakfast, if you can choke it down. I love smartwater. There is balm in Gilead.
Being a Scotch fan, I would love to try some of the specialty water that they use at the distillery. So awesome. I had heard that folks buy the expensive from-the-source water to make ice cubes to go with their Scotch on the rocks, but the thought of just straight up drinking it is pretty decadent.
-
the best hangover cure i've found is:
one english muffin
one fried egg
one glass of tomato juice
one miller high life
-
All mixed up together in a blender?
