Packing up for Alaska

Okay, I'm getting ready to move out of my apartment. My kitties, Milan and Lennybruce, are staying with my pa. I'm getting my computer out of here so that it doesn't get jacked or tossed out into the street.

I'll see you guys when I'm in Alaska. Hopefully I'll be able to get internet access sometime between now and then. Talk to you guys soon, and wish me luck.

(Well, er, when you read this you'll be there, but... yeah.)

G'luck on the move.

I'm damned envious. I mean, ok I live in the country, but it's just not the same... One day.

But anyway... Good luck on the move and the getting of bandwidth!

Thanks, everyone! I am staying at my dad's house, I managed to hook up his old server with a 56k modem and a half-burnt monitor. It's dicey at best, but at least I have the sweet, sweet internet.

I'm still trying to get all my shit out of my house. It's nearly 6:30PM here, though, so traffic's died down and I'm going to head over there with a borrowed truck to get another load of boxes.

Peace out, chochachos.

P.S. How rad is this? Ray printed a letter from my twin sister, Kelli.

Quote from: "Ray's Advice Column"

I would like some ideas on gifts that a gentleman such as yourself would dig. My boyfriend's birthday is coming up and I'd like to pick out something snazzy for him.
Kelli G.

Dear Kelli,

How very thoughtful of you! Depending on your price range, I suggest the following:

New Gillette Mach 3 razor

”The Champagne Room Comes To You.” This is where you dress up as a dancer and you set up a little padded booth in the corner of his living room, complete with a little round table and tablecloth and a candle and some champagne in a bucket of ice. Then you sit and ask him questions about what he does for a living and touch his shirt and thigh a lot. Charge him $150 for the champagne. This will drive him wild.

Man, this should probably be at least three separate posts but I'm on a roll. I just had a cigarette (yay for non-smokers lighting up) and my baby-pink lungs are reeling from the nicotine.

The fuel surcharges are crazy. I've gotten quotes for a Class D Bulk Container (55"x38"x39" wooden crate, 600 lbs of shit inside) from Denver to Elbonia as being $3,700.00! Jesus fuck. I am packing precious few in terms of boxes, and I'll just store the rest of the shit at my dad's place. Jeez. fuck*ng bloody hell.

On the plus side, I have incentive to get this shit taken care of. I want to get out to Kansas one last time before I have to go to Alaska.

Yeah, I've realized that the most cost-effective solution is to ship up a few boxes via USPS Priority Mail. It only costs a couple dollars more than Parcel Post, and it arrives in five DAYS as opposed to five weeks.

I'm tryin to negotiate with them to just let me cash out the moving allowance when I get there, so that I can buy new furniture to replace all the shit that I'm having to leave behind. I'll keep everyone posted.

I just got back to my dad's place after moving another shipment of boxes. I've got another 2 trips to make tomorrow, and then a friend is going to help me bring the sofa here to my dad's house. He's going to let me store it in the basement. After that I'll be home-free and en route to Kansas to spend some more time with Luke before I have to go to Alaska.

HELLS YES. He rented a vehicle for me, so I'm leaving tomorrow morning at 9AM to drive out there.

I am so goddamn fortunate.

Everything has worked out swimmingly well. I got the essentials packed onto 2 pallets and it's getting shipped out tomorrow to Alaska. I got my apartment 100% cleaned out today, and my friend Dave helped me get the bookcase and sofa, which are now in my dad's townhouse. I'm staying with my pa, who is ten kinds of rad and has bent over backwards to help me out. I'm getting to go see my twin sister tonight, which rules.

A guy that I love very much has just sacrificed a lot to get me out to Kansas to see him. Despite all the bad shit that happened with my job and with JT, I am happier now than I could have imagined. I have awesome friends and family to thank for it.

And especially you guys. My friends on Al Gore's Great Invention (aka the Intarweb) (hee, thanks Jough) have done more than they could ever realize to help me through this. While I was unemployed you guys replied to my goofy-ass posts, were genuine and sincere, and really helped me out.

As I've said before, this board is basically like treasure. You guys are rad. I'm going to sign off now because I'm sniveling like a little girl with a skinned knee.

You made a splash and now you're buggering off to Alaska. Not even Alaska, really - Elbonia: does anyone really move to a place with un- in its name?

Seriously, though, it looks like you've really landed on your feet and are set for a Thrilling Adventure. And we all know damned well you'll be back; if not, we'll either assume that you've pulled a Jack Torrance or the Elbonia Nightlife is, contrary to all expectation, unfathomably compelling. Either way, we're sending out (depressed) search dogs.

Take care of yourself up there, and plan the hell out of that Urban.
