Was there a "Wild Card" in the original version of Trivial Pursuit?  I seem to remember playing some of the later versions and thinking that Wild Card was a new addition, but I can't think what was there originally.

I still have the old like, 1982 version down in the basement.  I'm pretty sure the bottom category in that one was brown coloured and was a hodgepodge of all sorts of stuff that didn't fit anywhere.

I'll have to go see.

There certainly have always been six categories.

Gimpson's got something, though. Wild Card is sticking in my mind for some reason too. And it's not just from the book series (which I had been thinking about the day before the new categories came about).

Yes, I have the Genus 1st edition and it's indeed as you have laid out.

I like how they've folded Literature into Arts & Entertainment - the "wild card" category was needed.

Agreed. But maybe just because Wild Card is my category of choice.

But I do think that A&E needs more Lit questions and S&L needs less sports. I've noticed in Genus 5 that for the green questions you tend to get two dozen sports then 5 that are about food/games/etc then back to sports. Shouldn't it be half leisure?

I'm also convinced that with the 6th edition they switched from Genus to Volume simply because so many damned people either thought it was "genius" or "jen-us"

Green's always been the bane of my existence for precisely that reason.
That and horrible horrible Canadian Trivial Pursuit.  The answers to everything are "Canada" or "Wilfred Laurier".  Bah.

Damned Canadian Content laws. Isn't The Great One at least Canadian? And since 3/4 of the world's funny comes from Canada that must make A&E easier.

We played the Pop Culture Trivial Pursuit quite a few times from when it was gifted to my guy's best friend for X-mas.  Like every type of Trivial Pursuit in a group setting, everyone tends to give up once it's become clear that one person/team has an insurmountable lead (usually me or this other guy who gets really annoyed if anyone beats him).  I don't think I've played a full game of Trivial Pursuit in years.

Really? I've found it not uncommon for players/teams to come back from 5-0 deficits. The part I hate is when everybody is dancing around the center tile when we all know the category will be sports which means wrong answers and more dancing.
