The different girl piercings were pretty hot, though. Am I a hypocrite? Yes. Am I bothered by it? No.

I feel the same way, ironically, and I don't think it's hypocritical. I find it fascinating to look at *some* photos of male genitalia piercings. Some of them are extreme. The subincisions are fuck*ng scary as hell, in my humble opinion.

However, I hate seeing pictures of girls with piercings. It brings to mind female genital mutilation and it just kills me (even though I'm sure that most of the women pictured did it of their own free will). I can't handle seeing those pictures.

Subincisions, that's what it was called, right.
FGM makes me really sick too, which is why I pretty much freaked and wanted to hurl a little when I saw the "female nullification" body mod. Is this for real?
The piercings on girls that didn't actually go through the clit I was fine with. I liked the triangle ones the best, that's probably not what they were called but you know what I'm talking about. I'll look it up if you don't.
I really disliked the "suitcase" one, too.

Yeah, nullo is crazy, in my opinion. And I've heard some bad stuff about clit piercings, vis a vis  sensitivity loss after a while.
The main reason why I'm going with a frenum as opposed to, say, a PA, is that I enjoy pissing. I do not think I would enjoy pissing in two opposite directions at the same time.
I'm pretty sure Jough threatened me with a ban if I ever mentioned it again, so I'ma drop it now. I can feel his watchful eye on me, even though he is in Europe-land.

All I am gonna say, administratively, is that I don't have a problem with it since it's in a fairly obviously tattoo-and-body-mod topic, and thus those who don't like body-mod can presumably avoid it. However, might be good to be quiet about it when Jough returns to our midst.

That's neat looking, Limmo. Presumably you would skip the whole pink thing.
Is there even a pink tattoo ink?

Actually, the album cover is maroon.  I would most likely have had the central image and a small red/maroon square around it.  Had I, in fact, gotten the tat.

I feel like getting a tattoo is a statement of permanence - this image represents something that I will feel the same way about forever - and I can't see feeling the same way about anything forever.   Except for the tattoos you get when you're too drunk to know what you're doing.  And I just don't drink that much.

Quote from: "arkabee"
my fear stems from the thought of the needle going through the skin and into flesh.  the idea that it might hit a vein/artery and bloos spew forth is what get's me.  i flush as i type this, and am a bit light headed.  stupid, yes, real, yes.

Please don't clunk your head on the key board arkabee, but your story reminded me of the story of the largest needle I ever got, so don't read this, close your eyes, or have a pillow ready.  For everyone else, here we go:

I have Bursitis in both my hips, have had the problem since my teens, and the pain is just something I've learned to live with, as no treatment has ever helped.

When I was 20 and working at a job that kept me on my feet for hours and hours it got really horribly painful, so I went to my doctor, who sent me to a specialist.  Now my doctor didn't tell me what sort of specialist I was going to, but he also gave me no indication that I was about to be subjected to extremely traumatic treatment.   So I go to the specialist, put on the paper gown, and he comes in, starts poking at me right where it hurts, and I'm in so much pain from this poking that the paper covering on the examination table is soggy from tears, and I'm like, totally out of it.  As I'm lying there, he takes out a sharpey pen and draws a target on my left hip, exits the room.  I was too out of it to figure out that this was a sign that something bad was about to happen, so I was just lying there in pain and confused.  He comes back with an assistant.  He has his back to me, but I glance for a moment a needle the size of a baby's arm, and I watch him fill it with what I later found out was cortizone. I'm still to dazed to really understand that this massive needle is somehow meant for me.  The assistant holds me down very firmly, and the specialist turns to me and drives the needle with extreme force into my hip in one swift movement a-la Uma Thurman in the scene in Pulp Fiction. The shock of what happened has compleatly blocks out any memory of the pain that occured.  I am injected, the needle is wrenched out of my hip in a way that makes clear to me just how deeply it is lodged in my hip. The specialist says "There we go.  If you find this improves the problem, call in in a few weeks for an apointment to do the other hip. "  And off he goes.

Now, from a life time of dealing with pain, I have very good coping skills, and would have rather been told what was about to happen, and gone to my happy place, rather than actually seeing and fully experiencing what happened, so I ended up being pretty pissed at my family doc. for sending me in unwarned.  Also, it didn't improve anything.  I never went back, but I do remember thinking that if I could handle this I could handle anything.

Needless to say, I'm not afraid of the pain of getting a tatoo, but of its permanace, which is why I've waited until now to get one.  I've wanted the same tatoo since I was sixteen.  For metaphorical reasons, I'm planning on getting a spider on my ankle, but I have to go outside my area as there are few fine-line tatoo artists here and their work isn't the greatest.

HORROR! AND PAIN!

Jesus. I can't say as that didn't hit my squeamish button. And given that I was discussing the Pulp Fiction scene and how much it made me whince with someone the other day...
I had to have a lumber puncture when I was 6. It seems nowadays they give kids general anaesthetic before doing it. That's where my fear of needles comes from. Which also sucks when you then have to go on to have about a billion blood tests, although the dizziness is the sole fear left.

I don't really have any fear about getting a tattoo anymore, it's just about being sure about it. Like the name really.

Nope.  I had to hold my 8 year old daughter's hand(s) while she had one done.  It took three tries for the incompetent intern to get it in correctly.  Fucker.  I would have given anything to have traded places with her.

I've had two lumbar punctures. They did not hurt as much as the bone marrow biopsy, though. Sweet Jesus did that hurt. I rarely ever cry but that had me seriously choking back sobs. There is nothing to describe it.

August, I'm with you. No kid should have to have that. I have a scoliosis, they stuck me a couple times and gave up because they lost there nerve in the twists and turns of my deformed spine. But they inflicted plenty of pain along the way.

And Bozack - the integrity of your frenulum should be sacred. For god's sake, WHY?? WHY???

Did Prince Albert have one of those? Why is it called that?

I'm actually considering getting another.  I don't know why, just seems like the thing to do.  What I have in mind is pretty pedestrian compared to the lovely designs y'all have (or want).

This would be a series of footsteps spiralling up my upper arm, ending at my yin-yang.  It would symbolize my attempt at making continual progress upward.  Keep walking.  Baby steps.  Tortoise and the hare and all that.

I don't know how I'd explain it to my kids, though.

I'm totally taking the frenum plunge.

Curse my memory, but that's the chin is it not?
If so I was so close to getting that done, but didn't. In the end I never got anythig pierced. Eyebrow was tempting too, but if it went nasty I'd hate it - so close to my eye and all.

It's a much smaller chin on a smaller head. Sort of.

Getting back to tattoos, I got mine a couple of years ago.  I had been planning on getting it for a while, but hadn't really set any plans in motion until a friend of mine made an appointment for me.  it's 3 years later, and I haven't regretted it for a second.

Oh, what is it you ask?  Well, between my shoulder blades, I got the Triforce, yes, THE Triforce from the Legend of Zelda, with the words "Wisdom  Courage  Power"  around it.  I think it looks kinda neat, and has gotten a pretty good reception, even from people not familiar with the video game series.  I've got a couple pictures of it, once I get it scanned in or get ahold of a digital camera, I'll post it.

makes sense to me.  why not tell your kids "it represents the eternal struggle of the human soul/spirit/psyche to ever struggle against the forces of entropy and apathy and to always do your best at Maths."?

i too, want to "get more ink done".  right now it's financial, why i'm not currently "getting more ink done".

Damned fool Bozack! Leave him be!

And yes, Prince Albert did have a PA. That's why the palace for a time had no doorhandles.
