I used to have a lot of trouble getting to sleep and periodic bouts of severe insomnia, but that's mostly gone away.  I almost never go to sleep without reading in bed for at least a few minutes.  My dreams are *very* rarely scary or fun, but are generally intensely surreal.  I've had some of the best dreams of my life since I've been pregnant, filled with action and adventure, or intensely sexual, or both.  I had this one great dream where I was Buffy, it was awsome--killed a bunch of bad guys, then got my freak on with Spike in a hotel hallway.

I've had sleep paralysis a few times. It can be extremely frightening. Generally I sleep ok; the only times I have trouble is if I drink too much coffee or drink it too late. I think this topic ought to have a twin topic titled "How can you sleep?"

Sleep talking:

I tend to sleep very lightly, my SO sleeps like the dead and has full out conversations in his sleep, he'll start talking, and I'll be able to ask him questions, etc.  It's very amusing, but a little annoying to be woken up by his talking.

The two most interesting sleep conversations:

1) I walk into the bedroom, I was working shift work at the time, so my SO was fast a sleep long before I got home.  As I change into PJ's he says loudly and clearly: "That's the deal!"  I respond "That's the deal?"  Him "Yup.  That's the deal, Neil.  That's the deal."  Me "That's the deal."  Him: "That's the deal."

I asked him the next day, and he doesn't know anyone named Neil and never has.  We say, "That's the deal, Neil,” all the time as a way to end discussions.

2) We are both fast asleep, and I am awoken by my SO shouting "Wake up, we're on fire!"  Needless to say I spring up in bed, ready to deal with crisis, only to find him sleeping soundly.  Me: "We're on fire, eh?"  Him: (muffled as he turns on his side) "Yeah."

Recently he got a mouth guard to stop his excessive tooth grinding, so now he still talks in his sleep, but it's mostly indecipherable.

Wow. That is superb!

Apparently, I've been told, I still talk in my sleep on occasion. I'm not entirely convinced, but what am I to do... At least it seems I am indecipherable when I do.

My sister, who is also an indecipherable sleep talker, set up a voice activated recorder beside her bed in her hotel when she and a coworker (also a sleep talker) went on a business trip.  It did turn on and tape them making sounds back and forth, but nothing of note -single works, mumbles, a laugh.  Still, you may want to try it too.  I can understand why you want to deny that you do it - it's a little disconcerting to know that your subconscious mind forms words and sentences outside your control.
