Today we get a map and some history. I always like it when Onstad fills out the details of the world.

Yeah, I always like it when he leaves things to mystery.  I suppose explaining the "legend" is cheeky in its own right, but damn.  That ain't no kind of comic.

It's not like he's being lazy - that map must've taken the entire duration of Oprah to draw - but why oh why is this:

a) needed
b) warranted
c) necessary

???

The baby went shopping!
The baby does not like non-comic updates.
I, however, luuuurve them. I like the idea that i'm investing in something tangible. It all feels pretty real as it is so why not bolster that?
Why not?!

Due to the recent inevitable difficulty in adjusting to his new normal life, we as a board, have cut Onstad a lot of slack for his diminished productivity and subsequent reduction of content output on the Achewood site.  As I'm sure he realizes and understands, the goodwill of his fans will only extend just so far.    Like the shark that must continually swim in order to survive A comic strip as a money making enterprise must continually provide new content to keep the fans interested.  The internet is as vast as Carl Sagan's cosmos and if Onstad doesn't deliver there are billions upon billions of other sites willing to provide free intertainment.  So you see, it's ... Aw screw it, I thought it would be fun to write a wordy pompous reply to your query, and end it with something silly like 'More Teodor,' but it's too hard and takes too long.   Needed, warranted, necessary?  Probably none of the above, but who cares, I found it mildly entertaining.  Now here's a baseball analogy.  In spite of the time away from the strip and slight slump upon his return, I am confident that he will regain the form he displayed on the run up to his recent absence where he was scoring with a consistency not seen since his rookie year.

I found today's strip way better than yesterday. The drawing of Ray was mildly amusing but the rest was just kind of there. Although today's struck me more as the kind of thing that would show up in serializer.

Did any of you twits notice the date? My wager is that we don't see the legend, not until next April 1.

With Achewood, there's a history of periodic one-offs explaining the environment or otherwise not involved with any story line. This is just another of those. If you didn't like those, you won't like today's, but you shouldn't be surprised or upset about it. Lighten up.

Here's a question: when is the next Guest Week?

I liked it and I have no problem with Onstad solidifying his universe.  Creating a detailed environment seems like a perfectly valid thing for him to do.  It adds to my enjoyment of the strip.

Anyone with no love for fictional maps (or real maps of fictional spaces) is a bozo hiplet.
