I always wondered where (in the early days at least) even seemingly nice guys like Teodor and Mr. Bear would get the idea to abuse poor little Philippe.

No more wondering!

Comparing possibly-the-cutest-ever Philippe of panel 1 with the abject horror of panel 12 and the completely broken heart of panel 13 produces great enjoyment.

I do not like cruelness to Phillipe!
I thought the world being cruel was an illusion but it seems that it is true.

I don't have any children, but occurs to me that Chris' daughter may have a farting problem. I didn't fart that much yesterday, and I had lunch at a place called "Tortilla Flats" :) Maybe they're lacing her formula with hot sauce and refried beans.

It's like the Christmas punch, only with deeper and longer lasting scars!

I'm worried though: is Achewood going to become a strip that is constantly about a baby?

If you want the baby to fart more, give her elephant garlic. That stuff is sulfur central.

Also, Phillipe is retarded and it is fun to make fun of retards, especially if they are not aware we are making fun of them. Bozack/Beatrice, for example.

That was freaking hilarious.  Way to stick it to the otter.  The self satisfaction begged to be crushed and the underlying insecurity provided the perfect weapon.  It's as if Onstad knew him right down to his fluffy little core.

Screwing with little kids' minds is not cool.  Fortunately, we're dealing with a cartoon otter.  That makes it cooler than John Travolta's corpse three quarters buried head-first in Antarctica with penguins stripping the flesh off his calves.

Philippe is at his best when his innocence itself breeds ultra-crassness (a la hot bloody fat spewing all over the mayor).  He's at his second best when someone makes him cry.

I don't care for John Travolta.

I get the feeling that Chris & Co. find Phillipe especially cute when he is crying. Hence the endless cruelty.

Pricks.

Don't be mean to Philippe!

It's fine when Liebot does it, but man, you should be ashamed...

I would rather be a Phillippe than a Molly, because the otter is cute-retarded but the cat is girl-retarded.

But this does basically sum up my baby/pet sitting skills.  I'm living at home for a week to take care of an old fart mutt dog and an insane beagle.  God she is crazy and <3s to pee.  It is only Wednesday and I have pretty much given up.

Also, what kind of shoes are those?

And, has Onstad ever met Molly?  Or does he just hear stories?

Edit:  And oh my does Phillippe have such nice cursive for a thing that is both young and an otter!

They let a five-year-old Otter watch their two-week-old baby?

Awesome.

One imagines that the Onstads let Phillipe babysit the kiddo while they took their far-flung, 15-minute vacation to the backyard or something. Or given the times in the chart, maybe dinner.

I wonder what Mrs. Onstad has to say about Chris messing with the minds of her stuffed animals.
