Ray opens the door, all the Achewood guys jump out shouting "Surprise!" and "Happy Birthday!".
What do you get the man who has it all?
Cartilage Head.

Achewood is the only comic that can be truly said to be atmospheric.  Theirin lies the appeal...

I love the little "sub-frame" of ray's reaction to finding the note in the wallet.  just a great face.  Also, the house number on the curb is a great little detail that i only noticed on the second time thru.  excellent strip.

I just started reading this board again because I was enjoying this CH story so much, when I got an email saying my inactive account was going to be deleted.

Actually we all got those. And as you can see my account is hardly inactive.

Dude, you have 24 posts - you're fine.

I'm just doing a little housecleaning before the move on Thursday to the new domain, and the computer-signed-up 0 post accounts are going to GO.

Dude, seriously, your post count isn't a secret.  Look at your profile, or the number under your name when you post.

If it doesn't say: "Posts: 0" then you're fine.

Basically I'm going to do this:

DELETE FROM Users WHERE postCount=0;

So if your post count != 0, you're fine.

But I'm happy to see long lost posters coming out of the woodwork to post.  Welcome home, fellas.

I've just returned to the board after
a prolonged absence.  Has it been discussed
how Cartilage Head is so very similar in
atmosphere to Eraser Head?

This arc is really one of the best, but it will only surpass the super-secret ice cream shop if Onstad comes up with a line as good and unexpected as Beef's Tori Amos bit.

I bitched about Ray taking over Achewood for a long time, but not anymore. It was totally the blogs that did it-- Ray's party stories are solid God damn gold, and finally made me get why I should care about this guy.

That said, I still like Ray best when he's reacting to someone else's manipulations-- he puts his own flair into it in a way that Beef, for example, does not. (Conversely Beef is more interesting when he's the one putting events into motion.) He is the perfect person to stick into the big Gothic nightmare plots (Hell/Ice Cream Parlor) because they don't tend to overwhelm his personality, and thus the plot will feel like Achewood, rather than a cool story Onstad thought up which happens to feature an Achewood character.

And now my account is saved.

Yeah, I get you. I like Ray in the big gothic plots because it fundamentally challenges his personality but doesn't overwhelm it. I like to see Ray actually face things that he can't just ignore by virtue of being Ray, but yeah, "weird side-stories with an Achewood character in them for vague continuity" don't really work either. The CH arc is as close as we've come in strip history to Ray's personality actually being overwhelmed, and I find that interesting.

Also, for all of you who are stopping in to make one post? Feel free to stick around. Most of you seem to have excellent points about the strip, and we always like more voices contributing.
