How can one suffer "physical injury" from a chat room?

Well, this isn't really about something that happened in a chat room, since:
Quote
The complaint states that Marlowe actually drove from Alabama to Ohio to photograph the plaintiff's home, which he then posted on the Web. He also allegedly went to the courthouse in Medina to dig up personal dirt on Gillespie, which he then also disseminated over the Internet.

The case is not simply "someone conversing in a chatroom" but also involves "harassing someone in Ohio," which gives Ohio courts jurisdiction, according to Gillespie's lawyers.

"Had the defendants stayed in the chatrooms, there would be no jurisdiction here, case closed" Gillespie's attorney Theodore Lesiak stated in the complaint. "Defendant did not."

So it seems to me the real complaint is general harrassment and invasion of privacy, not two people arguing in a chat room.

You have to be pretty sad to drive from Alabama to Ohio to take a picture of someone's house.

He is right about there not being much in Ohio to warrant such a trip.

Why would we need lawsuits? We can handle our disputes here, using only tiny cans of Dr Pepper. Think about it, won't you?

(The legal system would be more fun if you could sue people for whatever you wanted -- like, say, tiny cans of soda.)

It would also be more fun if juries could invoke the middle-school justice system's "Slave For A Week" penalties.

It would help if he harassed someone, though. Even if he did go there, he took a picture of the guy's house which is pretty much available to anyone walking or driving down the street and researched public records in a public building.  Making publically available infomation illegal for the internet would pretty much bring it to a complete stop.

Which is not to say the accused isn't potentially a complete asshole (if he did do these things), but that's not illegal in and of itself, yet.

I predict the judge tells them both to get a life and throws it out.
