See the thing I want to know is if Ray ate the duck out of vindication for young Pat, or because he's Ray.

I'm glad it's been confirmed that Pat is not a vegan for any kind of ethical reason.

oh no onstad di'nt!

this is like that bogus scene at the end of Breakfast Club, where the punk-ish kid is suddenly afraid of the principal. and then the nice girl gets slutty, and the cool (ie: insane) girl gets preppy, thus negating the entire point of the movie.
but, as in that case, everyone loves it anyway. maybe I just like my assholes to be assholes deep down, rather than scared people compensating by being assholes.

I'm going to ask my vegetarian girlfriend if she's afraid of beefs. Maybe a beef bit her?

Did she really say "dried bees"? That's not just a typo?

Couple of weeks ago a co-worker came back from a trip to Mexico with a bag of roasted locusts to be eaten in the manner of snacks.

But bees? Come on!

I dunno, a dried bee could be pretty refreshing - all crunchy on the outside, little bit chewy in the middle...hang on, I think I gotta make some phone calls.

So finally it is revealed - and it seems a pretty "Pat" reason to be vegan.  Also, I'm sure Ray ate the duck simply because it was a duck and duck is delicious.  After all, if it was a good-sized duck, that means ol' Ray gets some crazy-fresh fois gras, and you know that's all he wants.

i dug this comic strip like jough digs a criterion collection disc

I love how you say this like it's an insult. "Oh MAN! Jough TOTALLY likes DVDs of classic films preserved at high technical quality, with excellent additional material, many of which have been made commercially available for the first time!!"

(yes, yes, I know, don't feed...)

There are many things I like about this strip, but here are the three major ones:
* The idea that there are at least two other reasons Pat could be a vegan other than ethics, one of which involves a magician's angry duck,
* Pat desperately trying to keep his cool and coming close to failing, despite the fact that Mrs. Smuckles is saying nothing offensive at all and is actually trying to be considerate, and
* The word "veglegon."

Hell yes she said dried bees.  Dried bees and peanut butter.  Good stuff.  Good strip.

I was thinking it was more insinuating that he checks the Criterion rumor pages every day and buys every disc they release even if he already had the movie. But it could have been worse. He could have said SuperBit.

Is Doc trying to steal Bozack's title?

Even Pat won't outright correct Mrs. Smuckles. She has powers over everybody.

I would have preferred "Dried bees and peanut butter," but I won't make a fuss about it.
