That's a corset piercing, and it is just temporary, since the rings would reject if you left it in too long. It's just there to be pretty, like anything else we humans do. I think they look awesome, but maybe I've been looking at that site too much - you get desensitized quickly when reading a blog that regulary posts picures of people with heavy genital mods doing suspensions and such.

And that picture would seriously make a great tattoo. You could even get it in uv ink, so it mostly is invisible unless you put a blacklight on it. It'd be tight.

I've just had a great idea for men and ladies alike: a tongue piercing which vibrates.

They exist.

Just for the record, they really annoy your teeth after a while if you leave it in all the time.  (And On.)

When I read the first post, I was going to do a reply that was just several lines of "AAAAGH AGH! AGH AGH AAAGH!".

Then, reading through the thread, it got into some interesting discussion of tattoos and piercings in general. Plus the magnets thing makes me considerably less unnerved.

Then Mite had to go and talk about heavy-genital-modification suspension systems. I don't know what that is, exactly, but at my best guess: AAGH! AGH AGH! AGH AAAAAGH AGH!

Well, suspensions are usually when people put big hooks through their skin, usually in their backs or their knees, and then either just lean away from them, or flat-out hang from them. Usually the hooks aren't through the heavy genital mods, but you never know. Here's a pretty picture of a hanging girl, coincidentally also wearing a prom dress.

That blog usually contains some of the most beautiful art I will typically see in a day. It also occasionally has things that will give any normal person nightmares. Luckily you usually don't have to look at those pictures unless you want to.

I can't say I've ever wanted to do it, but I guess they do it for some of the same reasons people do any crazy shit that hurts (running ultra marathons comes to mind) - endorphins are funny things, and overpowering the fear of pain is also pretty cool. Also, doing something that looks like it should be impossible has gotta be pretty cool. Thrill-seeking comes in a lot of forms, I guess. I hear that if you do it properly it's completely safe.

The ones that make me squirm when they hang by their knees.

I wish I had a teacher like you.

Or are they all really into piercings/bondage/masochism?

One time I lost 40 lbs. That was a pretty cool body mod.  ;)

The girl hanging in the dress makes me think of the fairy godmother flying in in some low budget punky school production of cinderella.
The knees thing did make me squirm until I realised, hey my knees actually aren't that sensitive.

Yea, whenever I try that, they always slip off the hook before I can get them out of the machine.

The parents pictured in the background of the photo, combined with the resulting comments on the page remind me of this

A few of my friends have tattoos.  And I cannot bring myself to tell them how terrible they are.  How can you possibly tell a good friend - or even a person with whom you have romantic interest - that their tattoos are the stupidest tattoos you have ever seen in your life?  It is probably best to keep the idea to myself, but I cannot help but think less of a person who would tattoo themselves with a tattoo that is downright BAD.

Perhaps these people would think that my theoretical tattoos would be equally as stupid.  I was thinking about getting a Dali's clock on a bicep, but I abandoned that idea.  I was considering a depiction of the creation of the universe in three small circles on the front of my chest.  This might be a pretty bad tattoo to some people, perhaps even myself.  The first circle would be all black, the center circle would be split down the middle half-black, half-uncolored, the third circle would be the two colors all swirling into each other.  The center circle would be dead center over my sternum.  This idea a little stupid.  I am probably not going to get this.  But I should.  I don't know.

There is one set of tattoos that I am certain I will get done eventually.  These will be three small script letters that one would find used in math.  Lowercase script x on the front of my right wrist, lowercase script y on the front of my left wrist, and a lowercase script z on the very top of my head.  They are basically labels.  I am going to have to wait awhile to get this done, because I am going into a professional field, and it might not be a great idea to have visible, half-insane tattoos.

But one thing is for sure, whenever I show someone any kind of tattoo I get, I am going to encourage negative criticism, because being all like, "Look at my tattoo!," just puts people in an awkward situation.

If you have no tattoos already, I would not recommend starting with one over the sternum. Bony places will hurt more than fleshy places.
