Quote from: John Gibson of Fox News in regards to TB Man
"It seems every time a story pops up about somebody who has suddenly contracted some strange or incurable disease, it's somebody who is either from the third world, or was traveling through some godforsaken hellhole, and somehow managed to contract ooga booga fever."

Just... wow.

I also heard today via NPR that the guy's new Father-In-Law does research on TB for the CDC.  You'd think he would have clubbed his new son, and had a half dozen dudes in bunny suits show up via helicopter.

sorry i was just kidding. from what i've read this guy was just kind of selgiraffe and a little bit thoughtless, and probably kind of ignorant about tb. it doesn't seem like he's some kind of hitler or something. i just hate when people get on message boards and have these weird pointless hate-fests at people they know nothing about and describe in length what horrible punishments they deserve. usually it's with child molesters or murderers or politicians, but this one doesn't even make sense

I heard today on NPR that CDC guys tracked him down in Rome and scared the shit out of him, and that's why he ran and got on the plane anyway. Still stupid.

How'd he get TB, anyway?

I think the situation was a bit more grave than you make it out to be. TB is not like the common cold, and a strain that is extremely resistant to treatment is probably something that folks should try to avoid spreading around - not something a guy should try to carry as far and wide as he can.

Hey, did you read the first post? Before I got into the vitriol, I laid it down clearly why I feel so strongly about TB and why this guy is a jerk.

1. I'm a medic in rural Alaska with a huge transient population. I have to get regular TB tests. I'm not a TB expert, but I know a lot about it, and I know enough that an N95 mask isn't going to cut it, and that you need a respirator or SCBA.
2. Guy's a douche.

Yes, because we all know that's the only other option than him being "a little bit thoughtless".
