Also, with Quentin Tarantino's new film coming out, I'm expecting to see plummeting levels of correct spellings of "Bastard" in society at large.  I should probably look at upping the dose for my OCD meds.

I've been seeing the opposite problem . I have yet to see one of my FB friends spell it with an e and some of them have been talking about it for weeks.

Also, bungalow is a fun word to say.

Why is it spelled wrong, anyway? Is it because of its cussy nature? Is America really that uptight?

Or is it some other reason?

Maybe it's explained in the movie but here's what Wikipedia has to say: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inglourious_Basterds#Spelling

I saw the trailer for that film last week. My first thoughts were something like this

Hey Paul, last I checked, you're a mod too....

Yeah, but once I modded outside my fora and I was told to back the fuck off.

For the record though, I wasn't serious about locking the thread.  Besides it's finally started to wander thank god.

my prof. at Berkeley wrote "The Cambridge Grammar of the English Language," and has devoted his life to screaming at prescriptivists and showing them how stupid they are for thinking they have the right to tell people how to talk.
He was pretty awesome.

yeah. I did notice that.

Well, at least, he showed us a lot of good examples to bring up when people try to prescribe. "Shakespeare split infinities." "Chaucer used "they" for neuter singular"

We talked about this.

Nearly all of the classic prescriptive shibboleths have that property. You can write a whole website like that for one rule, too. Here's a good one.

So what's everybody preferred breast size? What about your feelings on manscaping? What kind of dog is Ray?

i prefer the size of breast that my hand would be currently manipulating(were that the case).  i have no one elses comfort to consider, when it comes to my no-no area, so lack of manscaping suits me fine.  if there were a woman in my life whos face i would want to be considerate of, i would trim, but not shave, or wax.  ray is a welsh corgi/pitbull mix.
