He also said that the open-ended occupation of a nation in the throes of civil war... where the only thing all the sides agree on is wanting us out... is completely awesome.

There are times when little ideological notions are awesome and there are times when we gotta focus on the grim meat-hook issues and hope that the others can get fixed later.

Are we gonna get out of Iraq and not get into Iran, are we going to get a Supreme Court that allows women to keep their reproductive rights, are we going to make progress on single-payer health care?

Everything else is... important but of a second, third or lesser importance, in my eyes.

signing statements have always really bothered me. I spent a depressingly long time trying to explain to my US Gov class why they are not good.
