In regard to pandas, we just had a baby red panda born at our zoo and it's one of only six ever born in captivity.

That's six born in captivity in Canada - there have been others elsewhere.

I had to check because a few years ago I saw two or three baby red pandas at the zoo's conservation center out in Front Royal, Virginia, and  it didn't seem possible that I'd seen a third or a half of all the ones that had ever been born - especially because they were just carrying them around rather casually in a big plastic bucket!

Of course we're the same ones who aren't sure if you're open in the winter.

Ah ha - so that's why it's so nice at quiet at the zoo in the winter.  Don't say anything - we enjoy having the place to ourselves.

A bucket!?

Was there a hole in the bucket, dear wombat, dear wombat?  A hole in the bucket?  Dear wombat?  A hole?

No hole in the bucket, dear sideshow, but near infinite amounts of cuteness indeed.

It was a very large, safe bucket... but in retrospect, it's rather odd.

I think it would be very refreshing to see human's carrying their wee ones in buckets.

When I have a baby I'm going to carry him/her around in bucket.  I will have the best biceps of any mom ever.  I'll be like Sarah Connor in T2.  That mop will fly through my kitchen.

Heaven forbid I have twins.

The advantage being that I can totally beat the crap out of the social services worker when they come to take away my kids for verbal abuse.

the image of a monkey with a Wal*Mart sign chained around it's neck comes to mind.

I am distinctly reminded of "Fierce Creatures," in which things didn't get to this level but were often close.

Wouldn't it be easier to put Nike sneakers on the monkeys?
Or give them bottles of Aquafina?

I think bumper stickers on the rhinos would be a  hoot, too.

even better:  a sign next to the cage reads "this animal proudly nourished by McDonalds," and inside some poor bloated Giraffe unable to lift its head due to its grotesque double chins.

That is really one helluva mental picture.  I can't even begin to comprehend that one.

98Rock now has a DJ living in a cage at the zoo until they raise $20,000.

It can't be that entertaining unless he's naked and throwing poop at people.
