What I read was that it's been called homocide which I think can also covers manslaughter and negligence so it's not that surprising given he died with a gut full of drugs and the prescribing doctor has disappeared.

The other day there was a story preview on NPR that said something like "coming up: how there was more coverage of Michael Jackson's death in three weeks than there was of Afghanistan in a whole year." I might have the numbers wrong but that was the general idea. This was even before the homicide ruling.

As a consumer of news I refuse to feel the guilt about relative interest in those stories that was obviously implied. I mean, come on, there are wars and horror and government breakdown and poverty every day. A story this bizarre only happens once in, I don't know, a decade? It's hard to even compare. Maybe once in a lifetime, maybe he was a uniquely bizarre person. Of course that's more attention-getting than the everyday awfulness of the world.

Well, you know, it's not murder, it's at most manslaughter, which is not nearly as exciting. Killing someone by accident because you're an incompetent doctor is not nearly as juicy as killing someone on purpose for some interesting motive.

The up side to the hoopla and reverence is that there are Michael Jackson impersonators around Philadelphia now. Anything which causes more street-dancing to intersect my daily life is of benefit to me.
