exactly.  That's why some people will never believe X Y or Z no matter how strong the evidence.  Because their perception of reality is not rooted in science or reason, but instead is rooted in subjective perception, which in turn leads to chauvinism and America.

NASA's Near Earth Observatory has a dramatic (and enormous) photo of the current extent of the spill.  10MB, so Alaskan refugees might just want to imagine it for now.
