I get it. I miss having a dog to train to do cool stuff. The emergency backup pug being blind, there is not much she can do. I have been teaching a training class for volunteers at the shelter to keep up my training chops but in that situation, it's a major accomplishment sometimes just to get the dog's attention. It can be more like training wild animals. And there's no long-term since they're usually gone by the following week. It's an interesting challenge but not the same thing.

I've never tried to train any animal to do anything except the necessary stuff, like shit outside and have some manners. I wish I had a dog. I really miss having a furry friend.

Yesterday's hoss adventure:

Went out to feed, water and clean the hosss out and saw that the water bucket in one stall had a lot of floating alfalfa parts. Using my hand, I swept up the mat of green and tossed it into the stall. The handful of stuff was too heavy and it really got my attention when it hit the ground with a meaty 'plop'.

I'd just scooped out a drowned rat, which I then had to fight the dogs over possession thereof. They figured it was fair game since I'd thrown it away.

Dogs dig odors, and your feet are so accessible to them.
Mine likes to roll in our (used) underwear, which nauseates my wife.  I tell her she should feel honored - Petunia wants to smell like the boss lady.
