Oh yeah, all those officers got it in the can and the dude already got a settlement from the county for that junk.

Yes, glad to hear it, but what did he do to send the pigs into rage mode?

He made them work for it.

It's like Chris Rock says "If you make the police come after you, they're bringing an ass whooping with them."

I was supposed to get a foster pug yesterday, but the person surrendering her back to the rescue flaked out and is now trying to convince me that along with taking on a dog with reportedly a million problems it didn't have before it got adopted to her, I should also drive an hour to meet her to hand the poor thing off in a parking lot somewhere.

The rescue told me not to let her pressure me and they will try to arrange transportation but I haven't heard anything since yesterday morning. Really, it is so boring at home now that I want even just some crappy pug really badly. Is that too much to ask?

wombles...why does it have to be a pug? Doesn't another flavour of canine perk your ears even a little?

In fact, does it have to be a dog at all? I know a guy who has a hoss that's afraid of cows...

Pugs have worked for me. If it's ain't broke, don't fix it. Also, the Tech Staff is not such a fan of dogs in general but he likes pugs. When I worked at the shelter there were other dogs I would have taken home if I were single and I had an opening for a dog. But TS had to be persuaded to have dogs in the house at all, and I am not going to mess with success.

Also, you have no idea what a collection of pug stuff we have. I thought briefly about a French bulldog, but I have noplace to keep a whole new collection of stuffed French bulldogs, French bulldog knick-knacks, etc, etc.

If you already have the sort of life where you have hosss, I can't understand the objection to having a goat.

I think it's a slippery slope argument.

I have a foster pug. As I expected this is basically trading one problem for another. She is pretty insane at the moment. But we run a good pug boot camp here so hopefully I can whip her into better shape.

There's a photo on that other crummy social networking site.

Trust me, if she were a figment, she'd be much better behaved. Good god spare me from people who do not teach their dogs the basics of walking on a leash.

I am really not planning to keep this dog. The Tech Staff keeps saying why not? Because all he does is come home and play ball with her for three minutes and see how cute she is, and that's it.

The main reason is that I want a dog that gets along with other dogs. She was returned because she didn't get along with the adopter's other dog. It could have just been a bad match, but even so, it means the next dog I could get would possibly be really restricted. Also, I'm finding that she is also wicked leash reactive. I want a dog who I can walk around a busy neighborhood without her going ballistic at other dogs. Yes, it is possible to train this out of a dog - I've assisted at the classes we offer at the shelter and the effect can be miraculous. But it is a long, slow, tedious process and not a project I am really interested in.

She's also much more energetic and perpetual-puppyish than I want in a dog. What I liked about my pugs were that they were up for an adventure when I offered one, but didn't have a bunch of random extra energy that had to be burned off each and every day. I might like to raise a puppy again, but not because I want a puppy forever. It's because I want an adult dog that has been raised right. This dog is four, so she's not going to mature, you know? The goofy thing she is, is what she is for good.

She has a lot of good qualities. She learns fast and yeah, she would take great photos once I trained her to sit still for half a second. She will make a great dog for someone else.

This is not the thread about eating animals, I thought?

God fuck*ng dammit the evil cat scratched the foster pug's eye. On the bright side, I thought they wouldn't pay for me taking her to my vet instead of one of the vets that they work with, but they might. On the not bright side, I am now going to have to keep her entertained for several days while she is wearing a plastic cone and can't do all her normal activities.

On the I don't know which side, the rescue is not in a rush to find her a catless foster home. They said maybe she learned her lesson and we could wait and see how it goes.

The immediately prior person who surrendered her back to the rescue seems to have been somewhat clueless because some of the problems she reported turned out to be nothing. Like she said she had housetraining accidents because they couldn't figure out how to get her to let them know she needed to go out. Whereas here, she figured out so fast how to ask to go out that she immediately started lying about it and asking to go out just to play.

I was initially surprised to find out that for a living, she is a vet tech. But then I remembered that the veterinary profession doesn't tend to have much expertise in behavior.

I don't know her history before that. To be honest, she really is a handful and I can see why previous owners could have been overwhelmed. She is fundamentally high-strung and high-energy and that is not easy to manage. But of course, how previous owners treated her probably exacerbated the situation.

Cupcake is a good project for me right now. I needed something to get me out of my dead-pug funk, and she is a champ at that, because if I don't get off my ass and work with her she's going to tear the place apart.

It's also good in that I won't feel like rushing into getting another pug just because the house is empty. I'm old enough that I won't get to have that many more dogs so I need to get it right. She's also teaching me some more things about what I do and don't want in a dog.

Also it's always in the back of my mind that if this writing thing doesn't work out, I can go back to working with animals for a living. So she's almost work-related.

That's interesting you feel that way about the hosss because it always seemed to me that people are more practical about rehoming hosss than other pets. And it is so much a bigger deal to own one that it made sense to me.

I typed and erased some here too, so I'll just say - as I'm sure you know, it's a blessing and a curse to be that attached. I envy you and I don't.
