French are mutinying.  What crap dudes.  They should just forfeit.

That Guatemalan bastard reffing the Italy Kiwi game gave the azzurri an awful lot of calls in the first half and those cheating bastards were acting harder than they were in the 2006 final.  The game I saw should have been 1-0 Kiwis, or 2-0, since their only other shot on goal was so pretty.

Talking points

- Spain looking good but are slightly embellishing their play, even against Honduras.
- Villa is a good bet for top tournament scorer
- The French are a shambles

Right, so we're through to the knockout stage of the groups

Knocked out today: South Africa, France, Greece and Nigeria. The hosts slightly unlucky but didn't have the quality in the end, no sympathy for the French, none either for Greece as they're so so negative, Nigeria did well against Argentina but really shouldn't have let themselves get beaten by the Greeks, despite the 1 man disadvantage for much of the match.

Staying: Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina and South Korea. Former two typical dark hosss; weaknesses, but possess good players and a good style and could cause problems for the bigger teams. Argentina are likely contenders for the whole shebang, South Korea will probably suffer in the first round but could conceivably make the quarters

So what's the story on the non-handshake?

Apparently Domenech said 'That shouldn't be a red card, didn't deserve that', opposing coach said 'you shouldn't be here' (referencing their 'handy' win against the Irish to qualify).

USA and England advance! Well played guys. The USA - Algeria match was a nail biter. Robbed again, but fuck it!

FUCK IT we're actually through. Most likely the Germans in the next round though. fuck*ng hell. What a needlessly tense tense match that was.

Well done USA, probably deserved that group leader slot, gotta feel for Slovenia though.

KNOCKED OUT TODAY: Slovenia, Algeria

THROUGH: USA, England

Holy SHIT I wish I had been watching that game live today.  I don't care if Landon Donovan never scores another goal again--he's pretty well cemented his place as greatest American soccer player ever.

Donovan's a classy footballer. Big game player.

Come on Ghana, knock out the Germans so we can at least make the quarter finals...

Germany win, as do Australia somewhat surprisingly. Not good enough for our Antipodean cousins

THROUGH: Germany, Ghana

OUT: Australia, Serbia

Fuck I've been drunk as fuck since 11AM.  Drove through the streets honked at every dim motherfucker in Queens.  Lost the voice.  The beer garden was a wild celebration, must have been the best in NY.
