Right now I am like all about buying knock off jerseys that get sent over on a boat from china wrapped incredibly tight and covered with customs stickers.  Is so cheap!  And they're usually nicer than the authentic jerseys and you always get HELL of compliments.  I love getting complimented on my outfits.

I got a Mexican warm up soccer jersey, black with a neon yellow collar, pimp, and I'm ordering the Senegal full neon yellow kit, gonna be so good.  I think I'm just gonna start googling "neon yellow [shit]" and just start going to town.

You wear some solid neon yellow in the city and the drunk girls love it and yell at you.

Side Show--this effect is part of why I gave a shit enough to ask the questions that started this thread. I have always dug on some overly-formal clothes, and now I have an excuse.

I looked so good for some of my job interviews, damn.

Now I wear a uniform. At least it is a nice uniform... black ##### and a black "chef's coat" with our logo on it.

I, as someone else recently said, can't wait for fall clothes. Long #####, sweaters, plaid, peacoat/my nice light blue coat (there is a word for this kind of coat, I just dont' know what it is.) Also, the beard will return. I'm just gonna keep it shorter this time.

I love fall & winter clothes. Sweaters, jeans, knee socks, boots -- oh, the boots! But especially being able to wear fall colors, crisp browns and greens and the occasional sapphire blue.

I wear long ##### year-round, so that doesn't change, but it at least gets more comfortable. And it doesn't get cold enough here to really require a coat until mid-December at the soonest, so a pullover on top of a layer or two of long-sleeved t-shirts is usually enough to venture outside in.

I think this year I'm going to invest in some tights so I can keep wearing skirts. This is a big branching out for me; heretofore, skirts have always been warm-weather wear.

Also, I want to knit myself one of these this fall: http://www.interweaveknits.com/galleries/bonus/fall-2010/elementary-vest.asp I saw the pattern in my knitting magazine, and I already have some yarn in my stash that will work for the contrast color. I just need to get 2 balls of the main color and 20 hours to knit and I'll be all set.

I hate long sleeves. I hate them to hell. I spend much of the winter slightly chilly because I'd rather have my sleeves pushed up and be cold than actually have them down at my wrists annoying the hell out of me.

Amen, brother. Unless I'm wearing a jacket, those sleeves are rolled the fuck up. (When I know I need to wear a jacket the only jewelry I wear is cuff links)

Yeah, I love fall clothes too.  I suppose it's because of the opportunity to layer.  That's rad.  It's hard to put much work into summer style due to all the heat, plus any good summer clothes can be reinvented via layering for the fall and winter.  There's just so much more versatility.  I am a huge fan of wearing mary-janes over tights and a dress/skirt.  I am a huge fan of mary janes in general.  They. Are. Rad.

In regard to Mad Men style - they sure do have Peggy wearing some fug stuff this season.  I'm wondering what is up with that.  I suppose she is a career woman, and that somehow influences her to wear conservative clothes, which I guess are ugly clothes in the period.  Interesting side note SPOILER ALERT: in the last episode, I recognized that lesbian hipster as a lesbian hipster on her first appearance.  That is some quality styling.  Will Peggy change teams?  That would be rad.  SPOILER ALERT OVER.

"mad men" = Retrosexual
I (and everyone I surround myself with) am a huge supporter of the retrosexual movement. Men dress like men, women dress like women. And we all look respectable.
It is stupid that I can wear a casual pinstripe jacket and get in to any place in DC.

Retrosexual is rad.  I don't think it's a men/woman thing though.  I've seen some rad retrosexual dikes in my day, and I think the Mad Men look is also an excellent inspiration to genderfuck specifically because of the rigid gender identities associated.  When I wear my flat panelled trousers, tailored white shirt and paisley tie, I do wear my make up extra girly 50's style, with the black eyeliner curled up in the corners, and perfectly painted lips. Sometimes I go so far as to finger wave my hair.

Gosh clothes are fun.  Yep.

About two years ago we got into an argument with a bouncer at a bar in DC. It was July and about 150 degrees so naturally we all had shorts on. After dinner we walked into a random bar and sat down. We were the only customers. A few minutes later the bouncer (who I guess was in the can or something) said we had to leave because they don't allow shorts. We're like, "You're joking." And he says something about attracting a certain type of customer or whatever. So I say "So your preferred customer base is people too stupid to dress for the weather?" to which he had no response. He also couldn't explain to us why he was ejecting the only customers. I guess they were afraid people would see us in the window and think "hey, there are people in there having fun. Maybe we should also go inside and spend money."

I dress for the people I'm with, not the places I visit. I'll never willing give money to any venue with a dress code (other than safety-based. e.g., no flip-flops at the 9:30 Club). Of course I also only eat Chick Filet on Sundays.

The '60's: When men were men, and women were objects.

If I had to hearken back to the fashions of bygone days, I think I'd tend towards the 1940s. One look in particular, that is:

Talk about genderfuck. Just look at Rosie: she's dressed for work, expressing her capabilities and value to society, but she's not by any means masculine. Her hair is pinned up, but she's wearing mascara, and her brows are carefully groomed. Her features are set but not stern, and she is a powerful but ultimately feminine persona. No wonder this image caught on, much more so than the Norman Rockwell version of Rosie:

Rockwell's depiction, while arguably a more accurate representation of how factory women appeared during WWII,* did not have the same reassuring appeal of J Howard Miller's, and I would argue that the feminine appearance of the latter is the secret to its enduring success as a cultural icon.

*Of course, most newly-employed women during the war worked outside factories, and many of the factory women tended to be young unmarrieds fresh out of high school, so maybe Rockewell and Miller representations, along with the many photos of women of color (who were happy to leave behind domestic work for higher-paying factory jobs), should be taken together as a cross-section of the workforce at that time.

If anyone really wants to discuss this, which I doubt, we should probably split this thread, because this is tangential to my thesis topic, so I could literally go on like this forever.

TL;DR: men in suits are nice to look at but I'll take equal citizenship rights any day (I'm not holding my breath).

Should we split?  There is a lot of debate out there over what a retrosexual is.  I found this LGBT shirt site that holds a totally different definition than the one AC is using.  Clearly Don Draper cares deeply about his appearance, but in a way very different than a meterosexual.

I appreciate that you dudes and ladies dig  all this but... man, I do not.

I dress for comfort.

I respect the minimum dress codes of a situation, of course, I'm not here to oppose rules that aren't harming anybody.

It just seems like so much unnecessary work.
