Dan, I don't know that it was so premature.

The murderer's youtube account was littered with strange ramblings about currency policy, the gold standard and government mind-control... all pretty common tropes of the fringe Teabag right.

It's kind of obvious that the psychotic was not clear-headed enough to be a direct operative of that movement, true.

However, the idea that he was indirectly inspired by all the hate speech in the media ether still seems quite possible. Still seems probable.

1. responds to "oh, actually ****** just dumped me" with the story of how his cell-phone died this morning and he is so sad.
2. asks me if I'm working at a grocery store as some sort of preparation for future anthropology research.
once I explain "no, I work here so I can have food and a house," he asks
3. wait, but, why a grocery store? do you like grocery stores a lot?
4. why don't you just get a different job? You have a college degree! (I get this one a lot, but... not usually from people who graduated at the same time as me.)

The assumption that you got a job amoungst "the normals" only to observe them as an experiment is the most hipster thing in the universe, though.

There is more hipster in that kneejerk assumption than twenty-five ironic tattoos could possibly muster.
