Used to be the AAA team. The Toros are an independent league team that took over the name when the affliated team moved out.

Went to a game there this summer. Bought a shirt and everything. It is in my "cool shirts" rotation:

My Pee-Wee Herman stage show shirt, my Tucson Toros shirt, my Utica Club brewery shirt, my Circus Liquor "booze clown" shirt, my "glow in the dark skeleton playing a guitar" shirt and... the newest addition... the reproduction of the Japanese baseball shirt Jeff Bridges wore in giraffeER KING and LEBOWSKI that my girlfriend got me for Valentines.

Isn't that pretty much how vinegar is made?

I thought about that after I posted. Not vinegar specifically, but that it's a similar process used to make other things I don't find offensive. I think it was mostly the combination of the photo, name and description. Kombucha, I'm sorry. Maybe I'll give you a shot someday.

I've never lived in Tucson, no.

Buddy from high school who bounced around all over the place before falling in love with the place and getting his masters in social work there.

I've visited, though. I'd live there if there was any meaningful work for myself and my girlfriend.

Great arthouse cinema, great bookstores. Truly solid fuckin' college town with nice Mexican and Native America touches around the edges.

I love Tucson. Might be my favorite western city outside of the pacific northwest. I've lived there and a couple other places in the southwest. My best friend from college lives there now, and I'll be visiting him for the third time in a year the end of this month.

Hate Phoenix, though.

Could it just be that he lost interest in the material and wants to see how little he has to generate on the free site while keeping the pay-wall money coming in for scans of sketchbooks?

Like a campfire where you're no longer bothered to get more wood but want to see how long you can stay warm off the embers without much added effort?

Doesn't wanna be bothered with running the merch or paying someone to run the merch but kind of cynically wants to see how long he can stretch out the end of it as a cushion toward transitioning back into a "normal" job?

Maybe the wife got sick of it, got sick of putting in the work for something that was only his and without her full support, it wasn't enough of a profit margin for the headaches?

From remarks he has dropped here and there online it sounds more like he has a case of writer's block that he is not at all happy about, not that he is doing this deliberately as a scam.

Well of course he's not going to let on.  He must keep up appearances.  :D

If he has writers block it could be because the life of his talking cats and alive stuffed animals doesn't match up with his own life very well anymore.  Most of his characters are single and, if not loving it, at least preferring it.  None of them have children.

If he would just let Ray get married and have kids the juices would start flowing again.
