Same back at you if you can pronounce Jough.

its easier to just not bother and call him "that dude".

It's best to call him El Guapo.  Never forget that he is God's Own Dick.

Anybody watch Justified? I'm enjoying this season so far but I feel like I'm waiting for it to coalesce or something. Probably because last season is one of those seasons that people compare to the Wire. Sure it was about a cowboy hat wearing US Marshal but it's really about so much more. Mostly I just think the characters are great and I love the dialogue.

Peep Show is so great. I'm glad that at least in the UK the main character can be a misanthropic, socially anxious monster of a man. It is worrisome how much I identify with Mark.

I let my lil 4.5 yr old nephew watch that show when he's over.  I guess I'm not seeing the brain rot in that one?

your nephew will get really into Stoner humor without realizing it, and CPS will get sent to his house to see if he is smoking pot.

Yeah, see I work for the Canadian version of CPS, CFS, so the thing is, I'm already in the room with him.  And also we do not care about people smoking pot.  It is not a thing.

I don't mean I don't care about if my kids or the kids I care about and if they smoke pot - I mean CFS doesn't care if a kid or parent smokes pot.  We are basically powerless to do anything about it in my location.  I was really keen on decriminalization back when I was not directly in the trenches.  Now I've seen enough young kids putting themselves and others in danger because of getting high on weed and I wish maybe things weren't so slack, at least when it comes to kids who arn't old enough or who don't have the capacity to understand risk.

For instance, I am not wrapped around the axle about mild violence or nudity, but I have to watch out for bad language because their language deficits are such that they'll repeat words and phrases with no regard for meaning or context. Most seven-year-olds get that you don't drop F-bombs in front of Grandma, but Danger Boy doesn't have that level of social awareness yet. So I have to be more vigilant than other parents.

We showed them the first half-hour of Star Wars for the first time last night. Pedro cried. It was awesome.

Oh, no I know that.  I work in support of folks with different values from my own and give them respect all day long after all.

What I was asking was where do you see the brain rot?  Is it the particular show and its content, or is it all TV in general?  I genuinly haven't had any need to put significant thought into cartoons and their content.  I was recently thinking about how that will have to change once I pop one out, and how many terrible cartoons appeal to little kids that are just brain numblingly awful, and how many cartoons appeal to hubby and I that are full off all sorts of violence and terribleness that I haven't considered when it comes to impressionable minds.

When it comes to parenting young children and TV, I believe less TV overall is best.  When it comes to babysitting on the other hand, I'm all for bringing on the TV, especially when the kid is in an environment that isn't otherwise suited to his needs (ie at the home of two DINKS like my hubby and I, who have no toys).  To our credit I think the TV only came on after the dog had been exhausted.

Dual Income No Kids?  Guessing.

I'm sure the dog was grateful for the respite.  When strange kids come to visit I have to keep an eye on our dog.  She's very patient and tolerant of most kinds of poking, but when she's been pushed beyond her limit she gets snappy.  That and when someone grabs her on both sides of the head and tries to kiss her on the muzzle.  One of my daughters friends learned a very startling and scary lesson about the dog's boundaries.  No blood, but teeth touched face.  Normally she will retreat to a closet when she's had enough, but the kids had decided to cut off the escape routes.

I just try to keep my kids from watching stuff that's annoying or in which the main characters are overtly mean. I despise Spongebob with a fiery passion.

I also try to steer them towards things that are fun for me to watch along with them, so Phineas and Ferb are the big hits around here lately. My kids don't watch a lot of long-form TV but they love short (5 - 7) minute spots, so for a while the classic Looney Toons were a thing. Lots of violence and not a lot of education but it sure as hell made them laugh.

Amazingly, Danger Boy's favorite show right now is Mr. Bean. I cannot believe I have the good luck to have a kid who is begging to watch decades-old BBC specials. There was an animated series which he doesn't give two shits for, he wants the real deal.

The fun part, for him, is yelling at the TV. "MR. BEAN! Don't put your HEAD in the TURKEY! OH NO! MR. BEAN, YOU ARE STUCK IN THE TURKEY!" etc.
