Google Wave Sunsetting in 2012
« on: November 29, 2011, 09:14:51 pm »

http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/update-on-google-wave.html

Did any of you party people ever figure out what this was for?  I remember a bunch of us signed up for it, then waited to see what would come of it.  Apparently the answer is "nothing".

it's probably best used as realtime collaboration with a documentation archive, by teams of people working together on specific, limited projects.

what killed wave was the combination of the release method (slow, invite-only) plus performance (browsers can't handle that much scripting yet, at least in one of several open tabs).

most of the usable tech from wave was probably cannibalized for google+ though so there you go

Working on something in google wave has always felt like the virtual equivalent of trying to write a report where a dozen people are staring over your shoulder and can hijack your work at any given moment.

It was pretty good for creating collaborated grocery lists while the lady and I were at our respective workplaces.
