My anthro classes argued heavily in the direction you guys are leaning (if people have been doing it for this long it's probably not a horrible idea, people are good at noticing correlations) but another part of me is like, you know, there is a reason it's "traditional medicine" and not "what everyone in the world does." Like, if eating some herbs cured arthritis pain, wouldn't some company have started extracting whatever is in those herbs and selling it? I was actually supposed to read a book about this.

I guess my sense of traditional medicines is colored by reading a lot about it in the context of "Chinese people kill this nearly-extinct animal for its horn, to make aphrodisiacs (which don't work)." Sometimes people do things for many generations that are actually bad for them, or do nothing.

This.  Also, Viagra is dirt cheap and unambiguously works.  There are still people poaching rhinos and tigers for use in TCM nostrums, so the human relationship with medicine can't be described as logical.

Word. I can't stress this enough. I know Viagra is a cheap easy punchline, but when a person is with a new partner (or partners), there is something to be said for modern medical marvels. Especially when a dude doesn't use condoms with his regular partner.

Interesting story. Powdered alcohol sucks and is bullshit, and concern that it's going to inflict horrible damage on our youth is way overblown.

Why is it so  much? Shouldn't they distill it down to where one drinks worth was much less powder?

It thought it was the negro music with its hypnotic jungle beat.
