Gabriel Garcia Marquez
« on: April 18, 2014, 06:11:41 am »

This guy. I read 100 Years of Solitude not too long ago and was already thinking about rereading it last week. This guy got it.

The way he writes about death and old age always made me assume he was dead by now.

(Plus that famous first line, that line is so good.)

Quote
Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.

Social pressures exist
And if you think about them all of the time
You're gonna find that your head's been kicked in
You're gonna do it all for the grind

As mentioned on FB, I am quite sure that 17 Gabriels by 17 different mothers will materialize and write novels (until they are assassinated).

My friends call me the Mayor.
My enemies don't call me anything.  'Cuz they're all dead.
