Making money from art is not vulgar. Art is a commodity. It makes people feel something. It raises the greater sum of human happiness. It increases the gaiety of the nation. It has a value. -John Allison

My grandfather would probably prefer if we didn't do anything at all for him.

But this isn't for him, it's for the family.

Where has jldunston been lately?  Has the snow cut off her Internet access?

I am still expecting you all at 2 next Sunday.  You can all meet on the bench in front of the Small Mammal house, the one around the anteater statue.  Maybe we need to figure out how we will recognize each other.  We've seen pictures of jl and Pedro.  I will post a picture if I can find one that isn't too embarrassing, but basically I will be the wombatty little person in the zoo uniform looking vaguely panicked at meeting you all. I guess I should send you all my phone number at work in case someone can't make it.

Note that in the unlikely event that the weather stays this nice till next Sunday, you will NOT be able to find parking at that hour on a Sunday and should really take Metro.

How long should we give ourselves to find the small mammal house if we've never been there before?

I look just like my avatar photo, only slightly older.

You can see me in full motion video in the Best.Commercial.Ever. thread in the Ball Room, too.

Depending on the weather I was planning on being a Special Boy.

Did we ever work out a place for feeding or will we burn that bridge when come to it? Being walking distance to Cleveland and Woodley Parks I'm sure we can figure something out.

I've got to bow out. We had a snow day last week (for a half inch!), and the makeup day is going to me a week from Monday (which we were supposed to have off). I'm broke anyway, so it's probably for the best.

Maybe next time!

If you start at the main entrance and follow the main path, you can't miss it.  If it is very crowded and/or you are a slow walker, 15 minutes from the entrance maybe.  Longer if you stop at the Elephant House to look at the capybaras of course.

As for dinner I think there was an earlier post where jl picked out an Ethiopian restaurant.  I will probably have to go home and come back out and meet you, but I have the day off so I don't have to get home early afterwards.  Of course, I will still have been up since 5.30 so you may have to keep poking me to keep me awake.

Yeah, we'll probably not be going to the Ethiopian restraurant with ya'll.  My umfriend has some special dietary requirements (i.e. is afraid of foreign food) so we may eat elsewhere and then catch up with you, or else eat lunch before we meet with you and dinner after.

Okay, well, we'll plan to get to the zoo by 1pm, that way we can wander around and leisurely find the group.

Sorry to hear Mite's dropping out. :(

What the hell's an umfriend?  Is this one of those wacky things you 20-somethings are doing these days?  Does it involve Jello?

Oh, Jough, tell me it's not a serious relationship.  No, no, not because I was going to give up my taboo on messageboard-tyrant-crushes - I mean because friends don't let friends date people who are afraid of foreign food.  Even Internet friends who we never (with this rare exception) would have dinner with.

I can only name like 3 non-foreign restaurant in DC. Although there's a place right by the metro called Woodly Cafe or something to that effect that's decently tasty. They have a nice brucetta and the biggest chicken sandwiches I have ever seen.

Ahem. An umfriend is an individual with whom is in an uncertain confirmation state -- something different from a friend, but not in any sort of official relational status. As in "this is Austin, my... um... friend."

Also highly useful in seventh grade as a term for those friends upon whom you have raging crushes.
