They don't fit the criteria, but any Miyazaki (sp?), dammit! Spirited Away! Kiki's Delivery Service! But no Princess Mononoke because it's whole point is that good and bad are vague which you said Pedro doesn't like.

Anyway, further mad props to Miyazaki. If you don't have any severe moral objections to kids' movies, I give My Neighbor Totoro my highest recommendation. There's basically no violence, and Selma Hayek's breasts inexplicably fail to appear, but it's still a joyful and charming film.

It's less classically Miyazaki, but Castle of Cagliostro is "Miyazaki Does Heist-Movie" which sounds like it might go over well. But I dunno.

Salma Hayak's boobies were just tossed out there as an example.  She's purdy.  Hur hur hur.  

I also have a thing for Antionio Banderas, so of course I own Desperado.  

Mmmmmmmmmm.  Desperado.  

We did see Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and thought it was awful (in spite of all the pretty boys -- AB & JD, yum).  Saw that one in the theatre, even.  But we did like El Mariachi.  Big budget filmmaking ruined the trilogy.  

Last night we saw The Crow.  It was good.  I was surprised -- it had more humor than I expected.  Now I want to read the comic book.  I bet it kicks ass.

That it does. I haven't read it in a long time, but must get round to picking up a copy, as like the movie, it is somewhat a keeper.
If you like the movie, you might try Dark City, Proyas' follow up movie, which was muchly underrated, and actually got note from some of the big critics as such.

My favourite part about the Crow is that someone is credited as playing a character called "Bad Ass Criminal."

Have you seen Frida?  Besides fitting this criterion, it's got great art, rad computer animation, much carousing, AND when you rent it, you are much more likely to be taken for an artsy type than a Wants To Peruse Breasts Type.  If that happens to trouble you, which it needn't especially.
