Apparently, the Beatles soundtrack was too much for Ray.
-
The final panel had me laughing out loud for a good 10 or 15 seconds. I don't know what it is, but there's something about the simplicity of Ray just replying, "No." It's wonderful.
-
Maybe, I do declare if my mind has not deceived me, this is the first time that Ray and Roast Beef have disagreed on something, especially a prospective business idea. I wonder whatever happened to the days when making a million off of letting people know when they had to buy milk and eggs was still a possibility in Rays mind. This is surely a complete destruction of everything that I have verified as fact on the world: I am lost.
Although, Beef was classic today in his deep subconscious desires for disturbing hot sauce.
-
I have to say, today's strip was slightly ruined for me because the art was a little bit too obviously re-used from Monday's strip (http://achewood.com/index.php?date=07032006).
Still, you gotta love it when Beef and Ray are going back and forth on something so silly, especially when it involves one of Ray's business ideas ... I think that this time, though, Beef knows to take it too far so he doesn't end up in another Jaime (http://achewood.com/index.php?date=09272005) situation.
-
The "No." was basically wonderful. This may be the first time Ray actually turned down an idea instead of the other way around (that I can remember).
I think I would buy a hot sauce like that, for the novelty of it mostly. I'm pretty much over the horrifying myself phase of my life though so I think I would just give the DVD to my mom for Mother's Day or something. Maybe with a card that said, "Congrats on Achieving your Citizenship!"
-
Oh, I believe in yesterday
Personally, I would welcome the opportunity to be taken outside of my moral comfort zone. Especially if my vehicle for said venture is hot sauce.
-
Well you can already get Tobasco with a little belt holster but Beef's clip idea is different enough that it might work. They should make you sign a waiver to buy it, like the Flatliner sauce at Buffalo Wing Factory or that cold fire ice cream.
-
The line that had me laughing out loud was "Yeah! Yeah! Lots of hot sauces say they're extreme, but none really take you outside of your moral comfort zone!"
(I take it this occurs everywhere, but here goes:)
For X-mas every year a little booth appears in local malls, and this booth sells only hot sauce of various varieties. Since my SO's mother is all about things that are extremely spicy/hot, we usually pick some up for her. I can't remember the full name, but one year we bought her a bottle of "Dr. ______'s Colon Cleaner" which was in a bottle designed to look like old time-y medicine, and basically had me laughing pretty hard when we saw it. It's true that hot sauces that I've seen often don't hesitate to dance at the line of moral comfort for me, especially the ones that specifically tell you that they will hurt your ass, refer to shitting, etc. I saw a kit last year for some hot sauce that came in a set with a tiny toilet to serve it out of, toilet paper, and special medicated wipes. That, for me, is more unpleasant than funny.
Also, I can't help but think that this strip will lead to still more shameless marketing.
-
Oh my word, this is possibly my favourite one off strip in a long time. Everything from the assisted suicide hot sauce, to Yard Dancer, to the moral implications of sauces. Awesome.
-
"Professor Phardtpounder's Colon Cleaner".
I have a bottle right here.
Took a class from him, in college, oddly enough in no way fart-related.
Teevee/film theory class. The entire final was about St. Elsewhere and I got a C-.

Sounds like she needs adjustable hot sauce (http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/index.blog?entry_id=1467736)

A better adjustable hot sauce would have capsaicin locked inside microscopic inert balls floating in suspension in the remainder of the liquid. Turn the dial and you either turn up a magnet or some sort of static electricity (think of how isinglass works) which causes some of the balls to open and release the capsaicin into suspension.
-
Look at Ray in the second to last panel...he's shaking. I took it to be he was shaking because Beef's ideas about the dynamite and the soundtrack took him outside of his 'moral comfort zone'.
My favorite stupid hot sauce is still "Ass in Hell" hot sauce with the bare ass being prodded by little hayfork wielding demons.
The whole hot sauce thing is so stupid and funny. It's my favorite seemingly enduring element of American pop culture.
-
I don't get it. Why is "Yesterday" outside of Ray's moral comfort zone?
..is it because the licensing rights are still owned by Michael Jackson?
-
Yeah, way too many scatalogical references in the hot sauce world for my taste.
I like El Yucateco green habaņero sauce. Hot and yet tasty. Blazing Saddles makes a good habaņero sauce too.

Tomorrow Hot Sauce! Excellent on Tomorrow Chicken!
-
but, wouldn't you get little gel-balls in your drink?
I think we all know how that turns out... (http://touamb.com/index.php/topic,486.0.html)
-
Also, I can't help but think that this strip will lead to still more shameless marketing.
But Ray is already in the hot sauce business. (http://www.achewood.com/shop/acc_hotsauce1.php) Onstad is messing with my already tenuous grasp of the boundary between fantasy and reality.

We really don't seem to do that over here, indeed. Closest we ever came was Lime Pickle, the jar of which must have been about 17 years old, and yet was still half full of the green, oily, grainy explosive. I'm not even sure if it was still possible to purchase, create, or dream up the stuff that was in that jar. Hazmat suits were involved in bringing it to the table for a meal...

Buckyballs?

nothing about this wasn't amazing
kudos on some of the funniest alt-text in months too

Buckyballs?
http://www.seed.slb.com/en/scictr/lab/buckyball/index.htm
Named after Buckminster Fuller.
Also known for making fucked-up looking vehicles.
-
Q, I think Aug was actually mentioning them, not questioing them....you see, he was the first to use the term in the thread.
Dude was on Jeopardy!
-
Oh... OH!
Man... I... Uh...
*runs out of the room*
-
Hell, my husband is sourcing isotopically pure buckyballs for his experiment right now. Dude gets to use the stuff in his everyday life.
Man I want into a phd program so bad...
-
man, Q, the dude already knew what Buckeyballs were.
AWKWARD
-
Buckyballs?
Not magnetic, right?
-
No one else thought Ray was saying "No" because he is taking this to the next level? I'm smelling an arc here.
Then again, I thought to the last minute that Beef was going to punk out Ray at the end of the GOF, so what the hell do I know about what goes on between these two fellas.
-

Oh, wombat... I already knew about the hot sauce. Everyone knows about the hot sauce... I just meant that Onstad was going to somehow tie in his own actual product to the up coming strip, or market some new insane hot sauce via Achewood. But now, you've turned this thread into an add for Rad Chillies. You are basically Onstad's tool. This is what he wanted all the long.

While I am at the beach, you can be sure I will visit Try My Nuts (http://www.trymynuts.com/index.cfm?action=prodcats&CatID=15) to photograph all the crazy hot sauces.

That may be the most unrealistic "One size fits most" claim I have ever seen.

But the strings on candy necklaces are usually elastic, so it may not be so far-fetched. I know it would fit me (but that's not saying much... at all).

150% RDA of HAWT. Unless the strings dig in and are all uncomfortable.
-
Ah, so it would basically get less dense with larger chests, thus ending up more of a net. I would be interested in seeing this modeled as such.
-
Yeah, if any ladies are willing to model - I'm buying.
-
You'd be in a diabetic coma before any decent portion of lovely lady lumps became available.
Much like applying honey to a lady (gentleman) friend, the dying scream of your poor pancreas will tend to dampen the enthusiasm of your loins.
Not that I have any experience with this or anything.
Jus' sayin'.
(also the laundry is a bugbear after)

I've seen this one, plus the matching thong for sale here. The SO was eager to make said purchase, but I just imagined being unpleasantly sticky for days and days, and was basically opposed.
-
oh my god a thong that is edible?
...would you feel OK eating that?
WEREN'T WE JUST TALKING ABOUT HOW ANYTHING CAN GIVE YOU FOOD POISONING?
i am so freaked out by this
-
Inev, somebody's gotta kidnap you and bring you to the seedest adult goods emporium around, STAT.
-
there is a Gay Sex Shop next door to the record store I like. i am afraid to go in, basically. I am not completely sure about what constitutes a Gay sex shop, since the Gay and lesbian population have the same variety of orifices as the rest of us.
I mean, obviously, there is gay porn in there.

So I guess you don't know about the... oh, I shouldn't be the one to tell you.

Yeesh! See, a flaming rectum doesn't make me want to use said condiment, or place said condiment near things I will be eating!
Also, Hobot, now I have a crush on you too. Thanks for that.
-
Spectacular Hobot, you are our winner.

Does the yellow police tape indicate the high-scoville Dave's Insanity types?
-
wow,I love those pictures.
also: I really was made uncomfortable by some of those hotsauces. Wow.
-
There are just so many of them and with basically the same ingredients (peppers, vinegar) that I can't help but think that there are maybe one or two factories actually making and bottling (with a couple of bottle options) the sauce and another two or three cranking out the whimsical labeling. The stores must be buying them assorted - there can't be a case of each sauce in the backroom, can there?
I've always wondered what the creative and boardroom meetings of such an enterprise would be like.

It's probably something like this (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=03292005).

"My friends, this is some excellent shit"
-
no, man. It will be like the one where Ray looks at his Stew and makes suggestions to a store as to which products to produce. Maybe it was Home Depot?

There are a lot that are just "pepper, salt, vinegar" but you can get some interesting flavors even just by working with the pepper blend. Then you've got various herbs, spices, and fruits that get added in. Probably a lot of what's on those shelves is basically the same, but there is also almost certainly enough variety that sampling the different ones would be interesting.
This does not apply so much to the superhots, which can have any damn ingredients they want but the capsaicin extract will make them impossible to taste.
-
Yeah, I'm with wombat. Nothing named "Rectum Ripper," let alone featuring a label of a flaming rectum, is coming anywhere within 100 feet of my kitchen. The "Sir Fartalot" just confuses me, though. Misguided whimsy?
-
Upon further investigation I found that in the wild world of hot sauces, there are some extravagently expensive ones. (http://hotsauce.com/51to100.aspx?CategoryID=15) I wonder what sort of person buys a bottle of sauce just short of $1000?
-
Apparently you've never tasted thousand dollar hot sauce.
-
Also, Hobot, now I have a crush on you too. Thanks for that.
Excellent. I am now one conquest closer to achieving my end: making each member of TOUAMB fall in love with me.

You might want to rethink that plan. Bobby, there's a girl here who wants to see you.
