After three years of posting things around here, I just know that like me, you don't give this board your undivided attention all of the time.
So what are you doing while you're posting here?
Me? Right now, between my pull-out keyboard and monitor lies my smallest cat, Baby. And right at this moment she's purring and occasionally dabbing her little pink nose on my fingers. Other times she hangs her butt over the keyboard and swishes her tail around, which tends to make it very hard to type. It's so cute, it kills me. Other times her sister Zha Zha is in the same spot, only she likes to lick my fingers while I type.
Earlier, I was eating CUNT yogurt and an All Bran cereal bar while reading posts.
Also, I am still in my Pajamas, and need a shower quite badly.
-
I just finished my daily form letters to all the people listed in the arrest reports in the newspaper. I'm getting ready to continue goofing off for a minute, then I'm expecting a potential client at 3:00.
-
I'm in my second-to-last week of doing this scientist gig full time, and here I post in between packing up big boxes of hands-on, kid friendly science experiments. We're about done with our summer day camps, and when I'm done here I will go put our day about nature back into storage.

Dear Smells,
I am currently at work and debating the merits of it. Next to me is a huge cup of water which I am sipping slowly, thoughtfully if you will, in order to counter balance the big "Fuck YOU" cup of espresso I had for no reason earlier.
There is a window about 10-feet away and I just took a break from composing this missive to stare out at the barren strip mall across the massive (4,000+ cars) parking lot. The heathaze coming off all that asphalt is sort of dizzyingly enticing, but it only looks that way from up here. Damned if that smog isn't going to be fun to drive through while heading home in about 3 hours.
I have headphones on one ear as to block out the coworkers, and a headset to my phone on the other to listen in on an emergency outage call while I fix servers. In between shit I actually have to do and mind-numbing useless bureaucratic whatever, I refresh the board and post this inane answer to a question which, may I remind you, you asked.
Later, I just might get more water. It is that exciting around here during the day. And now you know why my online time is ridiculous on this board.
Much Love,
Q

My cat is digging his claws into my thighs. Help. The clacking of the keyboard and the latest Dresden Dolls album do nothing to alleviate his clawing.
-
I am at "work," AKA an unpaid internship in the Human Genetics department at a local university/graduate school/medical college, where I spend three days every week assisting in the lab. Like Q, I am staring out the window next to the computer at which I type. I see a highway, some old brick warehouses that are probably in the process of being refurbished and made into trendy loft apartments, and a CSX train at a dead stop on the railroad tracks next to the highway. There are also trees and two water towers and lots of cars.
I just finished loading a gel, which will be finished in approximately an hour and a half. When this time has elapsed, I will put my rubber gloves back on, carry the gel in the tray over to the UV lightbox, and photograph it. Afterward, I will carefully dispose of the gel in the proper receptacle and rinse off the gel tray and cover. In between now and when the gel finishes, I may go up two floors to wash the dishes we have accumulated in the frighteningly high-tech dishwasher I just learned how to use by attending a session on operating it and the autoclave.
I am bored just typing this.

What, are there no ambulances to chase in Louisville?

What, are there no ambulances to chase in Louisville?
I thought the exact same thing.
And what do I do? Oh, the usual. I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback.
-
Listening to The Bridge by Neil Young. and that's it. Enjoying the California sunshine. Waiting for the bus. Teaching myself to sing. Anyone know a good bar in London?
-
I am sitting here, in an undershirt and shorts, debating whether to eat dinner with my girlfriend and friends (pay money! see your girlfriend who just got back from Italy! you missed her! your friends will be there!) and my family (normally you have work at dinnertime, so you haven't had a good meal for dinner in like 2 weeks! you won't have to pay! your mom might cry if you say you'd rather have dinner with your girlfriend!). I think I will choose the healthy option and eat at home. my room is dark, because I never opened the shades this morning. my room is also a big mess.
dinner is some kind of giraffe. yum.

Let me just say that I am very surprised no-one has yet made the obligatory suggestive comment regarding masturbating while posting.

That's actually the act of posting itself around here if you think about it.
-
yeah, I clicked on this topic first so that I could see what funny joke Q had made. and then I was admiring the restraint of the board, and then I was disappointed in Judy for bringing it up and then...
I have to go get some tissues or something. more on this at 11.
-
yeah, I clicked on this topic first so that I could see what funny joke Q had made.
That may be the first time people have said "funny" and "Q" in the same sentence... also clicked on purpose in anticipation.
I'm scared, someone (Hobot) hold me!
-
I'm scared, someone (Hobot) hold me!
There there, everything will be okay! *Soothing coos*
UPDATE: I am sitting in the dark in my room (I have a terrible headache, yay!) drinking limeade. Delicious.
-
Wallowing in air conditioning, watching cheesy hotel TV, abusing free broadband and catching up. Oh, and despite having been in the pool I think I might still be damp from Niagara Falls (hey, I had to...).
-

I'm thrilled that nobody has said, "your mom"
Dammit!
Anyway, I'm housesitting for my parents and desparately missing my TiVo. And porn.
-
Slink... does this mean you went in one of the stupid boats with the rain slickers? Or was it just the mist?
As for me, I like Hobot, have a horrible headache. I am also procrastinating on changing into my gym clothes and then going to the gym. I should go, but my head! It hurts. Probably a remnant of yesterdays heat stroke. I definitly need to drink some more water.

Ah, Niagara Falls: the second greatest disappointment in a young bride's life.
I just got back from a run - my first in weeks and weeks. I am now sitting at our kitchen table, eating a large salad with feta on top. I have the house to myself, because my husband is now married to Science and won't get home until sometime very very very late. I will resume reading Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children shortly.
-
I am luxuriating in my new wealth of high speed internet (which might get disconnected due to the fact that I horribly miscalculated my finances and will be unable to pay the bills that were due today until August 10th, when I get paid again). Yay, me.
I'm also drinking a beer. My "reward" beer. After work I had to go take care of some business for a board that I am on. Afterwards, I caught up with a good friend of mine who just had his heart broken and wants to move off the island. :( I started telling him about my situation with my ex fiance (aka "crap dude") and then got terribly sentimental and sad. So I'm pampering myself with some good old intarwub and a chilly Sierra Nevada IPA, and then I'm going to to gor a walk and enjoy the Alaska summertime.

Just over a week ago I paddled a raft up into Cumberland Falls. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumberland_Falls) Fun stuff.
-
NIAGRA FALLS!
Slooowly I turned...
Anyway.
I've never masturbated while posting to the board. Until NOW!
No, kidding again.
Mostly I keep loading another thread in this tab while I go read something else or write emails in between. This board is like a light sorbet between less pleasant tasks.
-
NIAGRA FALLS!
Slooowly I turned...
That's worth a can. You knucklehead.
Why You!
-
I am drinking filtered water and playing KoL while posting. Later I might think about the emptiness of my life, stare at a wall for a while, and possibly die of obesity-related complications.
Also, I am not wearing trousers.
-
I was holding a baby, drinking tea and posting.
Now the older two are asleep (tomorrow is the first day of school)(seriously! WTF?!) and the baby is with the mommy so I'm stealing time from myself (supposed to be jotting down the main points for a meeting with the parents tomorrow (I'm a coach now! W00t!)
Today I got the exhaust and intake manifolds off my truck and tomorrow I need to get the A/C compressor and coil off the valve head so I can remove it and take it to a machine shop.
I give myself a 50/50 chance of getting it started and running when I put it all back together.
-
I'm just surfing the net at uni, it's 18:50 so the lab is practically empty but I like to stay late 1) because the internet here is better than at home and 2) whileI'm here it's possible work might get done by accident (3 months left of honours and my supervisor is taking a month long holiday in two weeks OMGWTFBBQ!)
-
Mostly just scratching.
Jus' scratchin' balls, ya know?
-
Are we allowed to reply again as our situation changes? Because that's what I'm going to do.
I am drinking my morning cup of Earl Grey; I just consumed my morning bowl of cereal. I should be getting ready for work, but I'd rather waste my time with you fine people than do important things like figuring out WHAT I'M GOING TO WEAR OMG and the like.
-
Are we allowed to reply again as our situation changes?
Oh man.. this is totally going to turn into the India thread isn't it?
I am settling in to work JUST now, and instead of checking out my workload for the day I loaded TOUAMB. Clearly, my priorities are straight.
I'm also debating an even stronger cup of FUCK YOU espresso because apparently I didn't learn shit yesterday.
-
Oh man.. this is totally going to turn into the India thread isn't it?
We can only hope!
I am settling in to work JUST now, and instead of checking out my workload for the day I loaded TOUAMB. Clearly, my priorities are straight..
I, too, have just gotten to work, but, unlike Q, am multi-tasking. I have also just discovered that I will have to redo a bunch of PCR that didn't turn out right yesterday. At 9:30, I'll be attending the weekly lab meeting, where I will apologise for being an incompetent amateur scientist, and everyone will assure me that it is okay, but will secretly resent me.
I promise I won't reply to this thread any more for the rest of the day.

i am sitting here, having just woken up, contemplating my Roommate (mr matthew lohman of high point illinois!), and wondering whether he will be lame or cool. so far, he seems to be the classic college male. I am wondering what to eat for breakfast.
also, I am glad that someplace else in the country starts school even earlier than us-- my friends up north have always mocked me when I announced that school was starting (on the 20th or so).
-

If he really is a classic college male, your conversations should go a little like this:
"I left my goddam test papers on the subway!"
"On the subway, for Chrissake! Ya lost them, ya mean?"
"We got on the wrong subway. I had to keep getting up to look at a goddam map on the wall."
Progresses ad nauseum.
(I really hope someone gets this so I don't look like a muppet)

InEv: I left my goddam test papers on the subway!

We don't... we don't have subways in St. Louis. Oh right.. you were doing a Thing. Carry on.
-
that looks so familiar.
but it's more like "my interests include college basketball, my moderately attractive girlfriend, napoleon dynamite, and anything with Will Farrel."
he looks like a nice, earnest fellow.
-
Ken Wilson of Long Beach, NY, where are you now?
-
I have not had anything amusing to say so far about what I was doing when I was posting, but I am now able to say that I am posting without any trousers on.
OK, I admit that this is because it is so hot that I am sitting around the house with air conditioning on, under a fan, with all the blinds drawn, and wearing a sleevless sundress that could arguably be called pajamas. But still, no trousers are involved.
-
ok, I completely made up the town he's from. it's really called Fairview Heights.
wierd.
anyway, yeah. now I'm just sitting around being disappointed in the quality of "The Year Punk Broke." I guess the version I downloaded was ripped from a VHS? and then, it got even further screwed up when I burned it to a DVD?
-
ok, I completely made up the town he's from. it's really called Fairview Heights.
Heh.. Fairview Heights. He's one of THOSE guys.
You poor poor thing.
-
Fairview Heights? Why doesn't he just commute?
-
uh oh. those guys?
let me guess: affluent suburb of St Louis? he will wear a polo shirt every day? and listen to bad rap music, but be afraid of black people?
I can deal. that describes my entire high school.
although... I'm not living with my high school, at the moment.
AW-- probably because living with your parents in college is not most people's idea of a fun time.
-
uh oh. those guys?

Actually I was just trying to rile you up, but yes, the economic divide is a little nicer on that side of the fence but I make no actual judgement calls about anyone in such generality if I can avoid it.
Unless they're from Chesterfield or Ladue that is... fuck those people.
-
oh, OK.
I'm glad that I don't have to start disliking him before I even meet him.
-
We don't... we don't have subways in St. Louis. Oh right.. you were doing a Thing. Carry on.
What about that MetroLink thing?
-
What about that MetroLink thing?
Oh screw that thing. It gets you like.. what... 10 miles maybe? (I say this only because I'm about to move in a month and they're finally opening up a station 3 blocks from my place. Bastards.)
All in all it's remarkably cheap and fast if you actually happen to be on the line. It is not, however, a subway.
-
they're opening a metrolink station on campus, and I get a free pass!
bitch!
-
Either of you St. Louis goofballs go to Webster?
-
Not I, but I've walked there from my place.
-
I've driven by it on the way to my mother-in-law's house.
-
I have a good friend who works there, see.
I've told him that if and when I come to St. Louis next, he has to take me to the place that serves fried pig snout sandwiches. But he says he won't do it.
Q, you'll take me out for snoot sammiches, won't you?
-
Q, you'll take me out for snoot sammiches, won't you?
Can't say I'd partake, but hell yeah. We'll take in the city any time. I am the worst of tour guides though.. I go to places that are out of the way and scary usually... or only interesting to me.
"So yeah.. here's the asylum again."
"Yeah we saw it."
"I know but I just wanted to make sure you really looked."
But sure.. a pig snoot for you.
