Title: Mafia Names
Post by: Death Ray on February 25, 2008, 09:26:44 pm
Inspired by the Feb 21 "The Kid Who Ended the Mafia" strip, I ask you all: What would YOUR mafia gangster name be?

Mine is "Tony Car Trunks".

To me, you will always be Sad Viking Hamburger Man. Isn't that good enough?

(Gee, guess my naming scheme...)

Mine is unfortunate.

It was during the 'all-but-forgotten' mafia softball tournament in 1992 that I was nicknamed "Shawny Knee-Pads".

The etymology is sadly forgotten at this point.

I might quit the mafia, you guys.  I can't do this any more.

Funny, does anyone else disable the avatar display? I pulled that about three years ago and only remember it when an avatar is actually mentioned. I find it less distracting and forces me to give you all a 'voice' identifier rather than a mental image so I pay more attention.

Geeze, I pay attention to youse guys? My new nickname is obviously Squirrel Bait.

I'll always think of you as "Big House".

What!!!

I would never disable the avatars. Then I couldn't complain when someone changed their avatar.

I don't have a good built-in Mafia Name. My Gang Name is E-Dawg, that I gave myself as a joke at work (based on the fact that I'm the whitest dude alive) back in 2001 that stuck.

Normally I hate it when anyone calls me Johnny, but a guy I knew in college decided I should be "Johnny Koalas".  We were hanging in the student lounge with a bunch of the other dorm rats and I was wearing a tank top that had made sort of pressure-mark "scars" on my back.  I walked over to a vending machine and this guy Mike says, "Damn, what made those gouges on your back?"  Wolf whistles indicated what the gutter-brained onlookers were thinking, but I said, "Nah, it was a drop bear that got me when I was a kid."  My down-under roots were a common topic of discussion, and the natives were suitably horrified by my explanation.  Later the Mafia nickname thing came up in regards to watching Johnny Dangerously.

Years later someone asked me if I had gotten surgery to remove the scars.  I guess the pressure marks from the tank top had really been livid.  Weirdly, I knew exactly what she was referring to and was sort of incredulous that to some degree she had believed my carnivorous koala story.

awesome, awesome.

my friend always talks about how this one time she and her friends went swimming, and her friend's boyfriend had big scratches all over his back.
I have met that friend, who is a tiny japanese girl, and I was amazed.

I was hoping someone would do this.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything to contribute.

Except I think Cort would be "The Human Search Engine."

Is that a mafia name, or a superhero name?

At work they call me "50 Demp" because I'm so hard (and I tend to blurt out The Truth during company meetings), but my old for reals mafia name was "Reverend Jough," or just "The Rev."

Sounds more like your Blues band name, to be honest. Reverend Jough and the Congregation.

If the mafia name formula is basically the diminutive form of your first name plus the plural form of the name of an object you use frequently then mine is probably "Joey Joysticks." The Spanish equivalent would be "Pepe Palancas de Mando," or Pepe Palancas for short, which I think is sort of amusing but most people would probably assume it's my real name.

By that formula, I could be J.L. "the Knitting Needle" Dunston.

That's kind of cool, even if it brings up some very disturbing mental images.
Title: Re: Mafia Names
Post by: nDed on February 26, 2008, 04:35:22 pm
Personally I would go with "Jimmy Needles" which illustrates the fact that the formula doesn't really work with lady names.

J.L "The Needle" Dunston sounds like your wrestling/boxing/etc. ring name. You could be known for your vicious straights.

Ewww... fleshlights.  They sell those in truck stops next to the herbal meth.

I actually had to look that one up. Looks like we now apparently have sufficiently advanced technology to create antidildos. Maybe if you stick a dildo into a fleshlight they'll annihilate each other.

You'd have to ask the SWAT Team officer who invented it (http://www.wired.com/culture/lifestyle/commentary/sexdrive/2008/02/sexdrive_0215).

My self-appointed soccer nickname was "El Verdugo," or "The Executioner."  That would be a pretty frickin' ominous Mafia nickname, even by mafia standards.

Isn't there a pro wrestler by that name?

No. There are four (http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/profiles/e/).  Five if you count tag teams. Presumably a lot more if you count people who never get famous enough to get into OWW.

There's been at least one El Verdugo in lucha libre, but that's harder to Google because I don't hablo espaņol.

If we're talking about team nicknames, I went by just "Van" for a long time in high-school forensics, occasionally lengthened to "Vandal." It had a slightly intimidating air, but this was forensics, after all.

My eye skipped down to this one from the Fleshlight references earlier.  That would be a hell of a pro wrestinling character.

I'll always think of you as "Big House".

I have an uncle nicknamed "Big House" for spending an overnight in jail many years ago. I got arrested at the 2004 Republican National Convention in NYC during the protests. so I want to change my nickname to "Little Gitmo"!
