Pizza. You can buy those already cooked pizza shells and sauce in a jar and cheese. And since you are Manly Men, pepperoni. It is fun.
What the Technical Staff does when I am not home is make sort-of buffalo wings. Baked in the oven, not fried. There is actually a good recipe for this that Onstad sends with the Ray's hot sauce, but unfortunately I can't pass it on at this time because my kitchen is all packed in boxes.
Grilled cheese sandwiches. I can only have this as a bacherlorette dinner because certain people in my household don't think sandwiches are acceptable dinner food, but come on, this is totally different from a cold lunchmeat sandwich. Normal white bread and normal cheddar or American cheese. What is very important: BUTTER. Which you let soften to room temperature and spread on the outside of the bread. Don't melt it in the pan - spread it on the bread. It makes all the difference.
-
Pan-fry some spicy italian sausages with pepper and onions. Then fry some frozen pierogi in the same pan using the leftover sausage fat.
Or you can do spicy italian sausage in the slow-cooker with tomato sauce. Peppers and onions optional. My mom used to make that all the time.
-
One pan meal coming up
Get microwaveable tortillas
In a single pan cook peppers, chicken with various lovely spices etc. and sauce
Wrap
Eat

The bacon cheeseburger is essentially the most manly food preparation there is.
With a Forman and a Baconwave, it is also basically easy to make.

I assume you mean a bacon cheeseburger all the way (ie with a fried egg).

Yes.
Also, Hamburger Frikkin' Helper.
It ain't fancy, but it's quick, easy, and cheap.
-
Ooo! Ooo! Sloppy joes! All you need is ground beef and buns and that stuff in a can - it's even called "MANWICH."!
-
I think I just posted the corndog pizza (http://www.flickr.com/photos/blargos/151769112/) in another thread maybe yesterday. Get you a frozen pizza and some frozen corn dogs. Combine, heat and eat.
-

My mom always made sloppy joes from scratch so now I can't stand manwich. Yet I vastly prefer fake mac & cheese to the real thing.
Yes.

I make hamburger helper with ground chicken because I am too lazy to spoon out the grease from ground beef. Actually that's true of anything calling for ground beef.

Two easier methods:
-- dump ground beef into collander, run hot water over beef, return to skillet.
-- run hot water over beef while in skillet. Drain fat and hot water.

...certain people in my household don't think sandwiches are acceptable dinner food...
Because you're forgetting the Campbell's tomato soup!
Obviously certain people did not grow up in my childhood.
-
I would posit that there needs to be something like vegemite or marmite that the kids won't really lie but is explicitly gross so they can play chicken at eating it. Overly salty spreads are the very epitome of Manly.
-
It is important for you to know, though, that Vegemite and Marmite only exist in the American consciousness as punchlines to jokes about Austrailia.
Basically they only exist here as gag gifts from vacationing friends or as the treasured possessions of weirdos who are way into overidentifying with another culture.
So the meaning of these things are lost to us in terms of manliness.
-
Well something equivalent that the kids can eat and think they are tough. Some stupidly hot peppers perhaps.
-
fry bacon in a skillet, remove bacon
crack eggs into skillet and stir
add your favorite cheese and spice or herb plus salt and pepper
serve with toast
breakfast for dinner: it's manly goddamnit
or you can make a sandwich of it with lettuce and tomato like an advanced class b.l.t. maybe try pickles on it
pot 1: boil water
pot 2: brown beef with spices, drain, and reserve. add veg (onion, peppers, mushrooms, carrots? whatever you dig) and brown. add tomato sauce and some water/wine/beer. put the beef back in. bring it to a boil and turn it down to a simmer.
pot 1 again: add pasta
drain the pasta, pop it back into pot 1, put sauce from pot 2 into pot 1, stir, combine
generic beefaroni: if that ain't manly then what the hell is
use a can of tomato puree and spice it yourself or just buy a jar of sauce ready to serve what do i look like the pasta police

Make up some chili. Chili is man food.
-
fry b**** in a skillet, remove b****
Shhhh! Don't say the B word too loud -- he'll hear you and then there'll be hell to pay.
-

My thoughts exactly, and it takes to the slow-cooker well.
This is the chili I made on Super Bowl Sunday (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Beef-Chili-with-Ancho-em-Mole-em-and-Cumin-351262). And you know what? it was awesome

I thought ground beef fat couldn't go down the drain since it sets up at room temperature. I know my mom always had a thoroughly disgusting jar of beef fat under the sink that she's spoon it into.
-
I always empty meat drippings into an empty can/jar and dump it in the trash after it cools. Keeping it under the sink? Ew.
Also, the proper drainage method is to use the lid of a similarly-sized pot over your skillet to retain the meat while tipping it sideways over your chosen receptacle, risking severe grease burns and bodily harm.
Manhood. It's what's for dinner.

My mom kept a jar of pasta sauce that she'd pour the grease into. Then she'd throw out the jar once in got full and start a fresh one. So under our sink was always a slowly filling jar of beef fat. It had strata.
-
We had the jar under the sink too. I assume this tradition comes from a time when people cooked with fewer things out of cans and jars. But nowadays, you probably open and empty a can or jar at almost every meal so you can throw the grease away every time like JL says.

Some king piss, maybe?

You can use paper cups, too. Plastic will melt, but if you double-cup paper will do the job.
I also save empties for the purpose or giraffe one out of the recycling bin.
-
Been draining burger fat that way for years with no ill effects. Sure, it sets up at room temperature. That's the point of using the hot water -- it keeps the fat melted until it reaches a pipe large enough where it won't matter.
-
Eventually, it matters.
Especially if you have a septic system.
-
hold on there bub i never said nothin bout rinsin no beefs
what i do is reserve it on a paper towel. it soaks up the grease without washing away the flavor
also, never EVER rinse your pasta, people, it needs the loose starches to glom the sauce on
-
Yeah, don't rinse pasta, seconded.
I thought rinsing beef was weird but I figured that was sort of a "live and let live" thing.
I mean, heck, some people wash mushrooms, but I come from a long line of peelers.
-
I do rinse pasta if it's going to be cold in a salad, and I want to keep it from clumping up.
-
I mean, heck, some people wash mushrooms, but I come from a long line of peelers.
Peeling mushrooms? That sounds like way too much work.
-
You are all crazy. You should clean mushrooms with a damp paper towel.
-
mushrooms only need wiped with a dry towel to brush off what little dirt may be there. and never EVER brush off the gills, that's where the flavor is
-
When my lady is away and no one cares what I feed myself, I eat these things:
Chipped chopped ham (sliced paper thin) and swiss cheese on kaiser rolls, microwaved for 45 seconds and topped with hot mustard.
Ray Steak from the Achewood cookbook, but with pan time cut down to 4 or 5 minutes a side and hella onion added in.
Pizza rolls ("Combination" flavor), baked at the suggested temperature until the filling just starts to ooze out and sizzle on the pan.
Zatarain's black beans and rice with Foreman Grill'd chicken.
Big can of Campbell's chunky New England clam chowder over garlic/olive oil linguine.
Bud Ice.
-
Where are the tomatoes?
-
White Castle Burgers? Now THAT'S what I call a pizza-roll!
-
How do you eat this without getting it all over yourself? Or am I missing the point?
-
How do you eat this without getting it all over yourself? Or am I missing the point?
There are two schools of thought, really. Some people like to eat it via the "honest" method, just cramming it in the general direction of their face, hooting, hollering, etc. I (and maybe I'm not alone) prefer the "delusional" method, carefully cutting it up with a knife and fork into manageable, bite-sized pieces.
It's really a trade-off; what one approach affords you in cleanliness, it robs you of an equal sum of philosophical integrity.

Maybe I'm just a suburban liberal pussy, but I don't get the shove one food inside another food inside another food inside another food arms race meme.
Alternatively...
Shit food when stacked in a pile becomes a pile of shit food.

I don't like it when my food touches.
-
Those are bad touches.
-
You're a bunch of sick bastards.
-
I am ALL ABOUT crazy mush food where everything is mixed together in sauce.
Cooking for myself means a lot of this. I am HUGE on Zataran's bean/rice/jumbalaya type things with sausage. Also, crazy Indian food that my roommate knows how to make.
I think maybe it is some sort of thing from my childhood, having to do with being a picky kid or something?
I guess it's harder to be picky when all the food is mushed together. It is easier to be OK with eating something gross like tomatoes when they are mushed together with all kind of other awesome food.
-
I think knife and fork is the only way to make it manageable but I think you'd end up eating the things individually so face smooshing is the only way to get the proper experience.
-
I guess it wasn't this thread but I've seen This is why you're fat (http://thisiswhyyourefat.com/) here before. That place never ceases to amaze me. I think this (http://thisiswhyyourefat.com/post/91588667/deep-fried-cheesesteak-via-themorningcall) is covered with tomato sauce but ketchup would be so much better.
-
something gross like tomatoes
your favorite fruit slash vegetable sucks
edit: oh right, the taco town thing. look, i like a burrito the size of a 2-month-old as much as the next guy. i've eaten the triple king at fatburger. box of krispy kremes? single sitting? of course.
but as a dude who also dry ages his own beef and bakes a mean batch of lemon bars, i just respect my food too much to mash it all up like that. the only way you'd catch me eating one of those would be for a ten-figure prize. and i'd relish every bite.
face-stuffer, of course.
-
Even though I frown all of this almost-food mashed together in 'fanciful slop bucket' configurations, I raise my cup of tea (with pinky extended of course) to the Meta-Pizza.

I'll have the lot. With fried eggs on top. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlK62rjQWLk)

I live with a guy that gets offended by food (he cooks, so he has that right... I guess). I've been pondering all morning if I should send him the picture of the sandwich sandwich. But it's too risky, dude's pressure is ridiculously high, and his heart would implode in anger.
I... I can't fathom the sandwich sandwich. My mouth can't bite that wide, and eating that with knife and fork misses the point, IMO. Slowly working your way like a termite inside it would mean munching only bread for a while, and then only meat, and so on, so... goddammit, I get tired just looking at it. Just too much commotion. But it looks fun to build.
-
Just too much commotion.
Heaven preserve me from that awful sandwich sandwich.

That's like saying I flunked all my classes the worst way possible, which is a rebellion against failing.
I don't see the math that makes failing into winning.

No it isn't.
I don't see the math that makes failing into winning.
I thought it said "I intend to revel and make merry" under your party-hat-wearing avatar? :(
-
My face prevents me from fully making-merry, I however continue to intend on it.
Further, it is with regret that I inform you that any reveling that may have occurred has been short lived.

Aiming for 0 on a true/false quiz is exactly as hard as aiming for 100. In high school sometimes it makes total sense to do this because stupid things make sense in high school.
-
I had a stats lecturer who did that with our multiple choice mid semester, if you got 0 right you got 100 percent. It was out of four possible answers too so odds were better than guessing the right answers for all of them, but you had to get them all wrong.
Also don't tell me I'm the only one that tries to shoot the moon every damn time he plays hearts.

Have fun... in summer school... winner?
