I recently discovered something that I should've known all along: Sigur Ros (particularly the () album) makes a hella good accompaniment to a trip to Pleasure Town.
It all seems so clear now, like all that made up Icelandic language stuff was just Bjork-talk for "less #####, more action, people."
Any other recommendations in this...don'tsayveindon'tsayveindon'tsayvein...vein.
Shit.
-
What's wrong with veins?
-
Nothing wrong with a good throbbing vein.
Also, Bon Iver, either album, but Blood Bank has more variance in tempo.

you just cannot go wrong with al green.
i've extolled the virtues of axyl krieger before. he's an argentinian composer/dj who uses folk and native instruments with electronic beats. zorzal is in spanish and the voices are quiet, so they fade out. i got it on vacation in buenos aires a few years back and haven't seen it in stores, but it might be online.

Oddly enough, I've only ever used it while flying solo. (blush)
-
I have not listened to music during sex since the time we were knocking boots to some Zeppelin and Robert Plant's climax in "Whole Lotta Love" coincided with ours.
It was...disturbing.

I like to bump to Das Racist (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQ8ViYIeH04)

Sounds familiar.

This would definitely end in...
1. my girlfriend making fun of the music I picked, and then I would be upset and not want to do it anymore.
2. getting ADD and wanting to change songs.
if she picked the music, I would:
1. laugh uncontrollably at the goofy music she picked
2. get creeped out by the dark, scary, loud music she picked.
Yeah, this would end badly.

Does anybody know if there is a non-terrible music channel on Comcast for this? I'd kind of like to know by tonight.

Agreed. You'd either have to have very similar tastes, or find something very low-threshold that you could both sort of ignore, but enough to cover up the sounds of the ceiling fan and goofy bodies.

There is a radio station locally that is totally normal during the day time, but after a certain hour, it turns into a station that only plays songs for "getting down" to. It is so audiaciously and blatently music for fuck*ng, while being pretty serious about it, that it is equal parts useful when tuned to at the right time, and hilarious post-coitus. The announcer sounds like if Al Green and Barry White were one person.
They are sincerly running a radio station for the sigular purpose of improving the sex life of their listeners, and they are so sincere about it that it is terribly funny.
-
Once I went up to a guy's apartment, and when we walked in, the first thing he did was put on a Barry White album.
It went downhill from there.
-
See I would never, ever buy music that is generally just a base line along with a deep-voiced guy basically going "Ungh..... Girl..... You're so beautiful.... Ungh.... I want to make love.... all night long.... all night loooooong...." but when you are actually in the midst of the act, there's a sort of hypnotic, rhytmic value to it.
The first time I found this station, I had turned to it during the day via my alarm clock radio, when it is just your standard pop station, then later on, I turned it on around bed time (seeking the next day's weather to pack my gym bag) and I realized what it was, and thought it was funny.... then the next thing you know, the husband arrives on the scene, and then things happen, and afterward he was all like "what the hell is this?" "It's the radio station for fuck*ng." "Oh." We had a good laugh about it after that. I've since intentionally tuned to it on a few occassions for the intended purpose. Good times.

Wow, subtle.
-
could be worse he could have just taken it out with no sound track. just the crinkling of the anti-bed wetting plastic matress cover as he jumps on the bed. no box spring.

-
Also, we can never remember what the station number is, so I'm inevitably asking him "what's the station with the fuck*ng music?" which is so elegant and lady like. Sex and belly laughs are a pretty nice way to spend my time. I should write the station a letter. I'm sure they would apreciate hearing from a "laaaaay-day."

A cheap black eyemask and a pair of shoddy handcuffs all laying artlessly on the pressboard nightstand.
-
Ridiculously large bottle of lube on the nightstand, labeled "Family Size", which is a wildly inapprorpriate label for this product.
-
All these things would have been better than what actually happened, because at least they would have made a good story.
-
The Doors
Except Alabama Song.
Also DEFINITELY except The Unknown Soldier.
-
My ex and I would occasionally put on really aggressive industrial music and it worked really well. Ministry, Big Black, NIN, etc. Other than that I'm not really a music-while-gettin'-down type person.

"the end" is not a good maximum cuddles song. maybe the worst.

"Love in an Elevator" seems like it would be an instant sexual buzzkill.
-
How about a Bobby Goldsboro two-fer. Watchin' Scotty Grow backed up by Honey.
-
"Santa Claus is a Black Man" would be a REAL polarizer.
Most people would be instantly turned off but the few who weren't would probably love it.

What about "Stinkfist?"
(aka "Track #1," because MTV wouldn't put "Stinkfist" on the screen.)

Slightly off topic, I once saw a male stripper dance to "Closer" and it was terribly tragic on several levels:
1) any song with a lyric "my whole existence is flawed" should not be played along with nudity. Ever.
2) the dude's black rubber/vinyl goth ##### were too rubbery, and he basically ended up struggling while laying on the floor to get them off.
3) in Canada, we've got the $1 and $2 coins, and there is nothing sadder than watching a grown man crawl around on the floor picking up pocket change with his wang flopping around. There is no dignity in that.

What if he was also wearing socks? Socks and sandals?
-
There are many reasons why the US should go to $1 coins. This, however, is not one of them.

the change machine at school gives these out and the vending machines accept them.

This is the Final Jeopardy! answer to the question: "What is the saddest thing?" Smells wins by doubling up.
-

I have a pile of these things due to train station ticket machines. At some point I guess Ill deposit them, because I otherwise have no reason to carry around clunky coins for purchases. They suck.
Also smells wins saddest thing of the day award.

dollar coins should be awesome, but they're too big and heavy. here's a national stimulus idea i think a lot of people can get behind: upgrade the coins.
make a quarter worth a dollar, a dime worth fifty cents, a nickel worth a quarter, and a penny worth a dime. rounded cash transactions have been scientifically proven to be fair or consumer-biased. [citation needed]
puts money in our pockets and doesn't cost the gov't a thing.
-
I like the dollar coins. I never see them, but I like them. I keep them in my left pocket. That way when I'm just buying a soda or whatnot I don't even need to futz with my wallet.

Yeah man, Hyperinflation is awesome. Its doing amazing things for Zimbabwe.

plus, all our coins would say the wrong number on them.

Anyway what's the deal with your amount of notes? A dollar's worth roughly half a pound but we still have a pound coin (which I might add is the most beautiful shape, colour and feel of anything in the whole world ever. One pays for the gas meter, two of them buy you a lunch-sized amount of food and three of them will afford you any pint of your choosing in most pubs. Four gets you entry to Plug. Then we move onto notes. A fiver will cover nearly any purchase you make on a whim. A tenner is an afternoon's climbing with the change used to buy a pizza and Victoria sponge on the way home. A twenty is a thing of a beauty, cherished beyond anything else. Give a twenty to any cashier and you are guaranteed to get back a pleasingly weighty amount of change.)
?
Anyway what's the deal with a dollar note? Seems extravagant.
-
Victoria sponge
Dare I ask what this is?
-
I happen to like our dollar coins and wouldn't miss the paper ones, were they to stop print on 'em. The couple of times I've done the Canadian Money thing, the loonie/twonie bit worked out well as they had been integrated into all the machine/kiosk based payments.
Plus, money that jingles a bit is cool.
Except when the sound comes from a stripper being pelted with them, then bouncing around on the dance floor. When the money is thrown by sad, lonely looking women who throw the coins in a mix of arousal and contained rage.
p.s. it's "toonie" not "twonee." The one dollar coin has a loonie on it, so that sort of makes sense, but the two dollar coin has a couple bears on it, so actually twonie would make more sense, but... no.
Many a fast food joint in Canada, including KFC have "Toonie Tuesday" which are cheap $2 or $2.22 meals avalialbe Tuesday. Spending a single coin for lunch is pretty alright.
-
This is an appropriate time to ask a question that has burned in my mind for the last six months:
How often do male strippers get boners? Is it...allowed?
-
Dare I ask what this is?
http://bethheartscake.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/cake.jpg
It is delicious.
As is this thread.
From sex music to dollars to male strippers to cake.
-
Agreed. But silent ca$h hardly makes that scene any better.
Holy quickthought, Batfarts! Out here the dollar bill is used in the strip clubs as an enticement to fake physical intimacy, part of the experience. Slipping the dollar in a thong waistband or having the gal pitch it in your lap and get it with her teeth is a thing that won't work (as well) with a coin.
Plus, a coin almost begs to be chucked, and having stuff flung at you is generally pretty demeaning.
On second thought, I demand Canada re-institute a paper bill in a denomination appropriate for these transactions. The institutional encouragement of the shaming of the sex industry workers must cease.
I have been to heard of clubs where you just hand them a pile of money at the door and they give you fake money to use inside. Canadian clubs should look into this.
-
hm.
on the one hand, that man is getting pelted with metal coins.
on the other hand, he has access to healthcare.
-
Ugh. Also, sweaty, and selling photos to women for the privlidge of placing a coin in his greasy, sweaty navel. Bleh.
-
Male strippers aside, I think that using coins for amounts under five dollars is good for the economy. Think about it. Say for example you go out on the piss. Because bars tend to be crowded, you'll pay for your drinks with notes all night because it's quicker and easier than counting out correct change. This means that by the end of the night, you'll have a wallet bulging with change. You don't want to walk around with all this money dragging your trousers down, so you'll blow it all on a souvlaki or a pie or some pizza before you go home. With notes, which are light and easier to carry around, you may be more tempted to keep them in your wallet and just buy a couple of potato cakes or a dim sim instead.
Thus, having heavy coins of higher denomination encourages people to spend more money than would otherwise be the case, and keeps money moving through the economy.
And get rid of the pennies. When I was in America I ended up with so many of those fuck*ng things, and they're completely useless. I even tried to get rid of some by giving them to a homeless guy, and he was all "What, you don't have a dollar bill?" Ingrate.

THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING, hey Marge, this guy gets it.
Basically that is all true.
-

Oh man, nothing hits the spot after a night out on the piss like potato cakes or a dim sim. Love that shit.

Ken oath, mate.

Mmmm 2 am pizza. Or Kebabs, there's always kebabs.

When I was in Paris last summer, I do not think I spent any more or less on drunk snacks due to having lots of 1 and 2 euro coins.
but then again, maybe this is because I spend too much on drunk snacks anyway. In St Louis i have not yet found a place in walking distance that will serve me cheese fries within walking distance of my place. In Paris... that was not an issue.
OK, maybe not cheese fries, but "sandwich grec" (like a less-great gyros) and french fries.
also nice: when I lived in the dorms at school, and the dining hall was open until 2 or 3 AM on weekends.
now I just like, make pigs in a blanket and burn myself a little bit.
bringing it all back home:
1. maximum cuddles, with no music
2. cape cod potato chips
3. crispy stellas, or schlafly, or something.
YEAHHH.
although I feel like maybe the soundtrack to this should be like... Vampire Weekend.
Not the sex, the part where we eat cape cod potato chips and drink expensive beer.
-
schwayze sounded like good boffin' tunes on late night last week.
-
I love the Sacajawea dollars. One of my friends calls them "doubloons" because they're gold. I like them because you can tell how many bucks you have in your pocket without looking, and they make people smile when you pay with them.
-
So you guys are aware we switched from Sacajawea coins to presidential ones, right?
-
Are they still gold coloured at least?
-
Are they still gold coloured at least?
Yup. And Reagan will even get one. So there's that to look forward to.
-
Has anyone seen a William Henry Harrison presidential coin? He was my favorite president and I have yet to catch his coin.
-
I thought they were releasing them 5 per year like they did with the quarters. Are they up to Harrison already?
-
I got a bunch of American dollar coins from a train ticket machine on Long Island when I visited your country in August. Most of them were the ones with Sacajawea, but I also have a John Adams, a Thomas Jefferson, a James Monroe, a John Quincy Adams, and an Andrew Jackson.
I like the presidential coin idea because it makes your coins like Pokémon. Andrew Jackson, I choose you!
-
Gonna have to wait a while for that Reagan one.
-
That spotlight stealing Tyler never gives up does he? The people need to know of the great William Henry Harrison, not this Tyler jerk!
-
Seriously, when Hawaii and Alaska finally got slotted into their places on the state board it seemed like an eternity had ended for me.
I thought DC and the territories were last, not HI and AK.
-
I have seen and spent his coin.
I gave you a can because I thought this was really clever. But it turns out you actually have seen and may well have spent his coin. I wasn't aware of this series, see. But still, you got a can!

Salt Lake isn't as bad of a place to drink as you all may have heard (or maybe it is) but one thing we do lack is late night snacking. I just remember in Germany it was super easy to find döner late at night which is awesome.

If you like low-alcohol beer, Salt Lake is indeed a great place to drink!
Concur on döner, though. Why the hell don't we have that in the States?
-
Seriously, it is impossible to find here. Even if you do find something with the same name, it's not the same. At least out west. There is a place in LA (Eagle Rock?) called Spitz that does pretty well, and it is very good, but not quite there.
And if you don't mind drinking it bottled, there is normal beer in Utah. I have several empties to prove it. We also have two excellent beer bars in Salt Lake (by beer bars I don't mean the kind, soon to be obsolete I imagine because of new and improved liquor laws, that only serve low-point beer, but full bars with robust imported and domestic beer selections). Two whole bars! We're making serious progress here.

There's Döner Kebab in Leesburg of all places.
-
I am pretty sure I saw some in NYC, but I guess that doesn't really count in terms of "we have that in the US."
-
I hate to thread-necro and re-rail in the same post, but I have to share this tip:
If you DO have a maximum-cuddles playlist, DO NOT put "Ode to Joy" in it.
After we stopped laughing it took a looooooong time to get the mood back.

By "mood" I assume you mean erection.
-
I thought it was a bit odd that you were talking about sexxx muzik in a thread about quarters.
Then I was like, "Oh."

Equally bad: Ride of the Valkyries.
On a related note, I'm sad to find that Rhapsody in Blue has been spoiled for me - all I hear is a constant United Airlines ad.
