History / Re: Tax cuts

historically, U.S. economic growth was greater when progressive taxes on the rich and corporations and tariffs were higher.

historically, U.S. unemployment rates were lower when progressive taxes on the rich and corporations and tariffs were higher.

When a Republican office holder starts proclaimin for tax cuts, it is code for policies that will raise the payroll taxes for most people and small businesses.  It is code for economic policies that generally leads to increases in local property and sales taxes.

Teodor has essentially been...sexually assaulted by Nice Pete.

Nice pete has made Teodor his B1tch.  hopefully there is some kind of payback.

Onstad's use of "permanently" over the years has always tickled me raw. "An old man who is permanently vomiting," "men in white lab coats had been paid to make sure that he permanently liked this food." And now "permanently driving a 1973 Honda Civic between Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores." Definitely not the only one of his -isms that has found its way into my idiolect.

most of us old timers don't remember the strip with that degree of precision and depth.

all i can really remember are the repeating motiffs of, "is this a thing"..."it is...a thing".  and "galaxy nachos".

Do not threaten me.  I will do the threatening here.

these are multi-contexts punchlines and barbs.  in this story alone, and along the greater storyline.

we can tell Onstad isn't milking continuity because characters rarely bring up the Great Outdoor Fight, or other past events.  they don't even act as if they've died and travelled in the after-life multiple times.

So what really happened?

Beef was fated to suffer the Lash of Thanatos so Cartilage head intervened to turn his death into a show.  If CH had not gotten involved would Beef had died in some other way?  It's confusing to me because if the Lash was Beef's fate, why did CH ask permission to use him?  If it was fate he didn't really have a say in the matter.

If it is fate and not just a game that CH is playing couldn't he not just come and get him again and finish the job?

His fate was to be reincarnated as an unfortunate being.  Isn't Beef already an unfortunate being?  Maybe by walking back into his bedroom he was actually fulfilling the fate of the Lash of Thanatos.  But if that were the case the note doesn't make sense again.

I am wholly unsatisfied with the resolution of this arc.

Still no fin though so maybe there is more yet to come.

this is a philosophical diversion.  continuity isn't so important in achewood as nerd-fest mainstream comics.

we've seen Cartilage-head before.  he frightened Ray.  Did this give Ray the extra Ooomph to engage in the Great Outdoor fight?

Roast Beef dropped the pamphlet before learning how to escape being reincarnated as an Unfortunate Being.  through Cartilage Head Roast Beef has escaped a propensity toward being an unfortunate being.  he now has much less propensity for being an unfortunate being.

what does Cartilage Head do when he isn't engineering these death events?

it is  hard to imagine running into him at a restaurant.

I like how Doc Andretti saved us the trouble of having to be introduced to a lawyer character.
He already knows all about the Settlement offer.  yay.

I was kind of looking forward to another after-life road trip.

the main gag seems to be Beef dropping the pamphlet just before reading the part about escaping the Lash of Thanatos.  the pamphlet then lobotomizes Ray and nearly kills teodor.  then Beef escapes being reincarnated as an unfortunate being anyways.

I attended a Peter Frampton Concert last night.  It was an outdoor concert along the glorious banks of the Cuyahoga River.
He remains an enthusiastic performer.

This will be the first and last time Roast Beef is ever compared to John Galt.

I hopes.

it was the only other narrative I could remember of a character fixing a machine being used to torture him.
or something.
