I would not personally entirely take Trouble Man and No-No at face value regarding the mortal-coil-unto-restoring value of the murder act. We are now left with three options as I see them:

1) Trouble Man and No-No are actually benevolent if somewhat alarming heaven-hobos.
2) Trouble Man and No-No are all "et in arcadia ego" and stuff; representations of Bad Stuff being even in heaven, and just like killing people.
3) Some mixture of the above whereby they do in fact mean well but also like snappin' necks like roast pigeon bones.

So if you're murdered in heaven you return to earth?

The theological implications are staggering!

This is reminding me of the Black Lodge, in Twin Peaks. Seriously. This is totally creepy. The look on No-No's face! And oh, did you guys see the egg and milk minder at the bottom right? AWESOME.

Assuming that the fire at Molly's was arson. If it was accidental then I'd say any unfortunate demise returns one to earth.

Would suicide send one to hell or into a state of complete non-being?

And how weird is it to discuss suicide in heaven?

And while I'm at it does killing Beef affect the souls of those two? If they were subsequently killed would they still be returned to earth in light of their actions?

What happens if Molly runs into any members of her family who last saw her at a funeral?

Tune in tomorrow for the answers to none of these questions!

Now wait. If Beef was dead (which we still don't know for sure), and then he went to heaven and was murdered, does that make him undead?

Also, I know that there's been talk of Beef's life count going down, but remember, he never actually died in any of those previous episodes. I mean, yeah, he was hanging on by a thread, but there's no real evidence that he died. He was just having near-death experiences.

Please feel free to refute these claims.

Italics are rad.

Particularly if you died by being beheaded.

i sort of count beef's lives in the same way everyone seems to count cat's lives: "oh dear, tiddles nearly got run over by a bus again yesterday, that's another life down". i dunno, it doesn't really make sense.

i still sort of count a time when he's been in heaven (or hell) as a time when he's died: then again, if it's only them then he's down to, what, 5? which isn't too bad.

Hmm. Ladies and gentlemen, this calls for a bulleted list of facts as we know them!
[*]Blister is stone-cold, totally, completely dead.
[*]Blister has a halo and is ghostly white, maybe even translucent and has a reverb voice
[*]Blister can return to earth apparently at will in ghost-form
    [*]Blister has met God
[*]Molly, Beef, and the 2 new guys remain unchanged except for the robe
[*]Each time Beef went to Heaven his shell was still in a hospital, apparently clinging to life
    [*]Cats have 9 lives
    [/list]
This makes me think animals with "lives" can move back and forth from the afterlife to the mortal plane quite easily, but don't attain completely deadness (halo, etc) until all lives are used up.

It is unclear if this experiences use up said lives but given that the expression "cats have 9 lives" is generally taken to mean amazing near-misses I would say that Beef has indeed shed one (1) life per trip to heaven.

This doesn't explain Todd's return from Hell, but it seems to have a completely different set of laws. Thus it's unclear if Beef's trip there deducted a life or not.

Man, you guys have covered half of my material already.

I'm just impressed that Onstad is going for his first dead-Beef double-header. Twice the dead Beef as a normal story arc!

Also, there is the troubling fact that Beef had to consent to be murdered (as he clearly manages to do before No-No commits the murder act). Does consenting to be murdered make it suicide? If so, where is he going?

Maybe the consent was so that No-No could perform the murder act he so desperately craved without staining his own already-in-heaven soul as previously mentioned.

I dunno about the theology and legality of it all.  But I do know that now we see the point of the Philippe hiatus.  It was to make sure this strip would happen on Friday and leave us writhing in suspense over the weekend.

But I think I will keep on believing Philippe appeared because I asked for him, because it is the only thing I've asked for that I've gotten in weeks.
