That's a cool one. I'll have to wait a little longer 'cause it's a phrase but 'Go pee up a rope' is going to be continued as tradition.

Be careful with this. When I was 10 or 11, my father first used the phrase "snot locker" around me, and I think I used it every day thereafter for upwards of six months. Kids, especially weird kids, will fixate on anything.

Amusingly, half the swears I know I learned from my father in the car. Dude is just the angriest driver, all hating on traffic lights, all screaming at anyone with inadequate turn-signal distance.

Teach your kids to curse early, so that they can become the cool kids at school.

In a lightly related story, did you know that I possibly invented the word, "fuck?"  I remember very clearly that one day, at about three years of age, I was playing with blocks and stuffed dolls in the spot right next to where I am sitting right now.  I was screaming random phrases of improvised words, so I screamed at the top of my lungs "FUCK IN FOOD."  I thought that I had made up a nonsense word that had never before been used, and I doubt that I had heard it before that time.

My mother didn't confront me about it until probably a week later.  She was like, "Did you scream a bad word?  Where did you hear that?"

I had no idea what she was talking about.  So I was all like, "Hell no, I was just screaming shit I made up."

And thus. . . "fuck" was born.

Then, around nine years of age, social interaction became a profanity-fest.  All cursing, all the time.

oh man, I did that!

except it was with some spanish cuss.

I just remember my mom telling me that it meant something gross in spanish, and not to keep saying it.

wierdest part? I can remember it. And I can't figure out how you would spell it. It was actually what I said when I was trying to remember a Chinese word (feng shui) as a small child, so you can imagine it was all CHING CHONG WING WONG. that shit is insane.

Every family has a few silly in-jokes, too. Maybe helicopter is part of a family Meme.

Obviously the word was being used frequently around the house during the time of the airwolf story.  The Toddler just picked it up.

"liz! no! it's airwolf! it's not just any helicopter! jesus!"
"shut up! I don't care what it is! it's for an online comic. it doesn't matter."
"woman, why can't you understand my dreams! you're killing me! if it wasn't for the baby, so help me god, I'd.."

"eh'-cop-ta"

(simultaneously)"Awww!"
"what were we just arguing about"
"I don't remember"
"eh'-cop-ta!"
"that's right! helicopter! ...airwolf!"

Hey The, you registered to vote, did you register for the draft as well?  Hey you listened to Carl Perkins, that is seriously rad.

Current toddler status, 5/22: Surprisingly, the slurping-up of long, single strands of spaghetti seems to be a primal instinct. My baby is a comedy guido in shiny black Robeez.

Current toddler status, 5/28: When bringing a toddler to a large family party, sit strategically: occupy a corner of lawn which affords no proper seating. This will dramatically reduce the number of aunties who come over to ask when you plan on having your next child.
