Jumping rope is great exercise.  Boxers do it.  Seems to me like it would be harder on your knees than running, but if it works for you...

Skipping on the other hand, is unbearably twee if you are over 6 years old.

Slink: see, I imagined you using a pink skipping rope, and listening to Britney Spears at the time, and it was such an image in my head that I laughed and laughed.  It was a good laugh for me.  But if you change the sound track to "Eye of the Tiger" you will be just fine.  The boys are being nice, but really, skipping is super silly until you master it.  For me it is the constant reminder of being a klutz.

In regard to drunken sports, there was a drunks against sobers improv games competition here. I was very disappointed to miss that one back in the day.

I am going to the gym tonight, but will only imbibe in one glass of wine with dinner prior to my usual Wednesday evening run.

OK, surely putting alcohol and rehydration together is all wrong?

Yes.  Yes it is.  This is why there is such a high potential for hilarity and/or health risks!

Weigh in Update
« Reply #453 on: July 13, 2006, 01:06:13 am »

Just a quick update, I lost 2.6 pounds at my weekly weigh in this evening.  That's 21.2 pounds total and 3.2 pounds away from deflowering the virgin weight loss.  One really good week and i'll have my way with her.  I stand at 308 pounds, only 8 pounds away from being under 300.  That is another big goal for me.

Melanie, 10 pounds is a lot of weight to lose.  Please don't lose heart, you are doing awesome.  AWESOME!!!  It takes time, it just takes time and your body will respond to your efforts and you will start to feel as good as you look.  Becasue we all know you are as hot as a pepper and smooth as a mexican brew.  Pretty soon your joints are gonna feel like they can kick Chuck Norris's ass.  Kick his pansy ass.

Oh my. See, I had to go even more manly and somehow end up with a leather skipping rope. Seems a little close to BDSM for me, but hey...
As for mastering it, I seem to have gotten quite good at the straight jumping style, that is, I can swing the rope as fast as I can and be jumping nicely in time to clear it. As for what I remembered preferring when I was young, which was the way you can kind of run through it, I just can't clear it that way. I just hook my foot and try to slaughter myself. That said, kicking a football around the other day almost killed me as well... I just stepped on the damn thing and came crashing down, and then got a face full of puppy tongue. OK, that happens most of the time anyway, but while you're winded it's not ideal...

Awesome. You pop that cherry!
I'll save the congratulations though, added motivation and all.

Congrats on the so far though... The (I'm sure old now) before and after shots from your site are reason for congratulations enough.

Skipping rope, of course, what a great idea.  That was a lot of fun.

Paul, I am really wanting to imitate your hairstyle.

Also: skipping is awesome. I do not understand your negative connotations with "twee."

Aha! Finally, I know someone else who does so. Salvation!
Thanks, as ever, Paul.

Fun work-out fact of the day:  This morning, the spinning class that takes place in the main gym (i.e. in the same area as the elliptical trainer and weight machines I was using) was lead by an instructor with a head set on who was sitting on a bike directly next to the speaker that was emitting the amplified sound of her voice, resulting in horrific feedback that filled me with brief bouts of rage.  All the squealing reminded me of that scene in Splash where Darrell Hannah speaks in mermaid-eese and blows out all the T.V.'s.  Later another employee came by and sarcastically turned the speaker away from the instructor, resulting in relief.  It was a generally okay work-out, but since I'd been running the night before, I was pretty wiped out.

Skipping rope what a great idea.

Here's a different take on the skipping rope thing.

Paul!  This is the first time I've heard your voice, and it sounds almost exactly like the voice I have for you in my head when reading your posts!

Also, you can do better than that!  Come on!

On the health front:  I ate a lot of pizza: yesterday for dinner, and the leftovers for lunch today.  It was a Garden Veggie pizza, so I refuse to feel bad about it.  It was delicious.

I bought a pair of trousers today and I had to get a size lower (a size lower in sweat shorts too).  This isn't really anything to cheer about, but still, man, I'm a pant size down.  How cool is that?

I still can't shop at human stores.  I have to go to specialty places.  But dang, it sure meant progress.

Then I had Bad Things to eat for dinner tonight.  I'm going to feel like crap tomorrow.  The weather should be nice, though, so a nice long walk should help get rid of some of these excess calories.

Loved the video! You've got a great accent.

I'm down a few pounds - 139 today at the doc with jeans and shoes on and everything. So I think I really only have about 5 more to go! These'll be the hardest. Though illness makes me not really eat much, so at least that's one plus of my little situation.
