<-- also a puppy.

I just hope more people think about adopting needy American kids before they go to China or Thailand or Russia.

You have to admit 'cortjstr'ing has become a euphemism for going and fetching....

I'm not huge on the idea of kids though I know my girlfriend wants some someday. Either way it's not something I want to think about until I'm about 30, by which time I should actually be able to provide a decent life for any of the bottom feeding spawnlings that do show up and too old to actually have any fun anyway.

I have kids because I love kids, because I am confident that my kids will be successful, and because I believe families are the basic foundational unit of healthy, growing communities.

I tend to be of a belief that one can be part of a family that deeply contributes to a community, without having any kids.  Which is not to say that being a parent who raises good kids isn't of high value within a community, but one's family can contribute just as richly through other actions, if kids aren't in the mix.

Wombat raised the "dying alone" thing - you know the bane of the childless family?  The cliche we hear in our heads from time to time?  I tend not to worry about this.  You basically don't have to be afraid of aging and dying alone if you are active within your community.  I've been to enough funerals to know this.

So what's wrong with running out and getting knocked up?

Do you hate your mother?  Do you not want to make major life changes just to make her happy?

Jeebus, Somebody nicetrousers.  What kind of a daughter are you?

Heh! That's why I <3 the Jough.

I have a very acute sense of unworthiness, as Americans hog a huge percentage of the world's resources. It is just how our economy was structured. I cannot ignore the fact that Americans' ecological footprints are huge. At the same time, there must be new seed to continue paying the social security and what have you. I guess for me it boils down to my faith in our culture. Are we really the new Roman Empire, which is getting fit to burn and end in a firey apocalypse? Or should I just calm the hell down and have children, as Gwyneth Paltrow encouraged (rolls eyes).

It is indeed tough. As CJ and countless others have stated, I was engaged to a crap dude. I certainly don't want to have a crap husband. I don't want to say "never", but I sure don't want to have a babydaddy.

I need to calm the hell DOWN. I don't know why I get so neurotic about this. I don't even have a boyfriend, let alone a husband who wants kids.

Crazy dreams: I dreamed last night that I was pregnant on our island (no hospital, just a clinic) and that I went into labour during my 8th month. I think that i had this weird-ass dream was because I was reviewing OB-GYN emergencies in my paramedic textbook. In my dream, I had abruptio placentae, and they had to do an emergency C-section and do a hysterectomy. I don't know how they did that, since we don't have an OR in our clinic. In the dream, I was totally in awe of the baby because I felt such love for her, but I also felt really sad that this was my first and last child due to the hysterectomy. I remember that I was very worried that I did not have a carseat or bassinet for the little baby, who was a girl. Then a bunch of people gave me a carseat and other necessities from the church.  After that, in a separate dream, I dreamt that my teeth cracked and fell out. WTF?

The hysterectomy thing kind of makes sense if you are worrying about waiting until it is too late, the teeth thing I have heard is meant to represent death. And not in the 'death can be symbolic of a new beginning' way.
That said I've had the teeth dream too and I'm still breathing (and keeping my murdering to a healthy and sustainable level).

No Paul! No!

Us oldsters must hang around to provide a grim example to these kids today.  Also, who will keep the damn kids off'n our lawns if we are not here?

Plus, you are a rad friend.

I never said childless people can't or don't contribute. But you have to admit a village doesn't last too long if noone has kids. And it definitely won't grow.

My grandad keeps asking if I've got a girlfriend yet. I think he's afraid I'm turning out gay, as is the rest of my family. So it's always 'So son, ha'e ye got yerself a girl yet?' and then he punches me on the shoulder. I love my Scottish lineage.

If you are a teen whose family is worried about him turning out gay, leave the door unlocked while masturbating to lesbian porn. A moment of embarrassment is compensated by never again being asked if you are perhaps planning to run off and bang a dude. Unless, of course, you actually are turning out gay, in which case all I can say is get it over with and bring home someone strapping and clean-shaven with a nice haircut.

Either way I don't really think it'll help with the pressure-to-Christianize thing, but let's take things one day at a time.

Oh, I was trying to expand on what you wrote, not dispute it... I didn't think you were saying families without children don't contribute, I just wanted to add on that even if you don't breed, you can still be just as important to the social fabric.  Since wombat is, you know scared, and shouldn't be, and Somebody nice is not ready for mommyhood, but feeling the heat, it's good to cheerlead for not breeding as a positive choice for those who choose it.  As for Wombat, she's good people, and zoo people too.  If the zoo comunity don't love her enough to make sure she gets daily buckets of raw giraffe and a nice safe enclosure with water and such, or whatever her needs may be upon retirement, she has the messageboard people.  I'll dabble your drooly chin wombat.  Don't you worry.

holy damn do not watch Rosemary's Baby.

all of my (female) friends are now afraid to have a baby.

and I think that Mia Farrow is gorgeous.

... I mean, yeah, I am scared of babies too.

instead of getting caught whackin' it, how about just ogle girls more obviously?

my mom got a real chuckle out of seeing me basically drool at this one girl.
that's a real swish way to do it.

did I use it right?
