Nice Pete
« on: June 08, 2006, 04:19:12 pm »

In the June blogs thread, someone pointed out that the only person that hangs out in amiable terms with Pat for considerable amounts of time is a serial murderer. This is of course very funny, and made me think that we don't know for sure what sets off Nice Pete's killing, er, proclivities. I don’t think this has been addressed directly neither on the blogs or the strips; occasionally Nice Pete will mention that this or that situation prevented him from “Taking” (you will remember he uses capital "T" for that, which is creepy and funny like only Achewood can be) some victim or other, but we still don’t know exactly what type of psychopath he is. So, what do you think? What makes Nice Pete see red and Take people, after all?

Nice Pete also gets pretty mad if he feels that he has been overcharged for dental work

No, yeah, but as in what would trigger it. Most serial killers have more or less a set of circumstances that will make them kill - say, certain months of the year, phases of the moon etc. What's Nice Pete personal Vision? Is he punishing, is he rewarding, does he relish it, despises it etc. You can't get more idle talk than what's been offered right here right now in this thread, [mitch hedberg]let's get behind it, you reluctant motherfuckers ^^[/mitch]

What?! I don't know! He's a cartoon character; Onstad makes him kill people because it provides terror/poignancy/humour. I would like to get behind this, but there is really no point. It's like saying 'Why does Snoopy sleep on top of his kennel?' or 'Why does Calvin see Hobbes as alive?' when we all know the answer is 'Because it's a recurring theme in a cartoon strip.'

If anyone disagrees, don't mind me.

Seconded. I feel like we are being prodded to cross the line into Fanfic. I don't want to go there.

What?  Remind me what moon phases were involved when Gacy, Ramirez, or even Dahmer killed?  Oh that's right, none.  Most serial killers (despite the overblown bullshit of the Zodiac Killer) are really just spineless sociopathic fucktards who care less about others and have no sense of self-esteem or personal power in their own life. There is no "trigger", despite what may make a story more interesting.

Furthermore, Nice Pete is a cartoon cat; I uh.. I don't think I want to delve any further into his murders as they amuse me currently since they are fictional and playfully unrealistic; any further would deter from this.

Exactly. His murders right now are cute. Too much getting into his head = scary.

Mr Q has gone full circle and taken both the question and the answer way too seriously.

I reckon the simplest explanation is that Nice Pete is set off by the unnecessary complications of modern living.

The little things that bug us because they don't make sense instinctively or logically and... really only exist because of the complications of layered and interconnected social interactions... the kinds of thing that like Jerry Seinfeld would turn into a blandly-entertaining section of a stand-up comedy bit. Except instead of reacting by making jokes, he reacts by taking lives.

You SHOULD be able to write a book and if its good, people should help you make it your way and then buy it.

Dentists SHOULD do good work that is affordable.

Except that you or I would put the compliant in a blog or annoy a co-worker with it.

And Nice Pete kills someone.

Oh, for Pete's sake, relax. I was just trying to provoke some guiltless idle talk (yes about cartoon cats, did you see the logo at the top of the page?), where one usually talks smack and nonsense while scratching the space between one's toes with a ruler; definitely not going for any sort of canonical/official/serious detailed examination of the character, no. Serves to teach me, maybe idle talking can't be consciously provoked. It has to happen natchara-llay...

Also, phrasing like an academic question kind of makes it seem less idle. Just sayin' is all.

Aw hell, everything we say here sounds like an academic question. There ain't a one of us who ain't hopelessly overeducated.

However, that line between bored speculation and pat/nice pete fanfic may be finer than we'd like to admit.

Aw hell, everything we say here sounds like an academic question. There ain't a one of us who ain't hopelessly overeducated.

However, that line between bored speculation and pat/nice pete fanfic may be finer than we'd like to admit.

Pat and Nice Pete laughed heartily as they ran in through the front door. Quickly grabbing a set of five keys, Nice Pete shut all the locks breathlessly while Pat glanced out the window.
'They've gone! We lost them!' he shouted gleefully. They embraced in their Victory hug before sitting down at the pine table. 'That was the closest one yet!' Pat continued, still panting from the sudden run. 'We'd never have made it without your fine shootin', Pete!'
Pete blushed a deep shade of red, and Pat felt something that had been cropping up on him frequently as of late. He'd always been violently opposed to homosexuality... but something about Pete stirred his loins in a way he hadn't felt since the men's showers in High School*. He knew it was now or never.
'Pete, how about sitting down with me on the couch? I want... to talk.'
Obligingly, Pete settled down on the double seated sofa. Pat sat down carefully, and began.
'Pete... I've.. been having these feelings for you. Ever since that small cell in prison I've always felt differently about you than I do other men. I just can't get on with those pigs, but you... you're sensitive, kind, and thoughtful...'
Nice Pete delicately put a finger on Pat's trembling lip mid-sentence.
'Pat... let me Take you..'

There. Everyone's curiosity satiated, NO MORE PAT AND NICE PETE FANFIC. Or is that a flimsy excuse to write my own fanfic? Even I don't know.

*Cheap gag, but how could I not use this? You were all thinking it before I edited it anyway.
