Flanders?

Some people love cats, I love wasps.

Paul, you are beautiful.

One of my most vivid memories from my childhood was being stung by a wasp. Apparently my dad thought I was a little wimp, because when I said "a bug bit me!" he assumed it was a mosquito or something. So I had to go tell my mum.

The best part is that it bit me, and I reached up and pulled it off my face and threw it on the ground. This was my reaction. I was just trying to play hide and go seek, you bastard!

I love that this is now a thread about a wasp instead of a thread about Paul eating delicious Greek food. Nonetheless, the essay and photos are awesome as always.

Now I'm hungry. Dammit, where the hell am I supposed to get Greek food in Louisiana?

I love that this is now a thread about a wasp instead of a thread about Paul eating delicious Greek food.

Well it was part of the original post.

I appreciate the comments about my photo essay, thanks.  However, I am disapointed that no one made any comments about this.

However, being a professional photographer in Los Angeles apparently isn't a guarantee you'll get a good photo.  You can take the girl out of Price, but you can't take the Price out of the girl.  Nevermind, I guess she knows something I don't if she's making a living with her photography.

I thought it was the highlight of the essay.

The girl is cute but dang, she sure can't take a good photo.

Maybe you should be a professional photographer, Paul.  Your shots are way better than most I've seen.

See, I looked at the photo and thought "oh, look, she took the photo on a crazy angle - to let us know she is arty.  Then I thought: "how pretentious and unnessisary."  Then I thought that it is better not to say these things, because they are mean spirited.  But now I have.  Are you happy Paul?

Similar story to taramasalata:

I was on an Indian cooking kick a while back.  My Indian cookbook has several recipes that call for asafoetida (which I am probably spelling wrong), which is described as a spice that comes off like alarmingly potent garlic and onion.  At the recommendation of an Indian co-worker, I went to an Indian grocery near the office and collected a variety of ingredients, but couldn't find the asafoetida.  Asked the two guys working the store, and they went "Asa-fo-what?  The what what?  The who and the what now?"  No clue what I was talking about.  Went back and looked around some more, and finally found it.  When I brought it to the register, he said "Oh, this!  In my part of the country we call this 'heeng.'"

Heeng?  WTF?!  But when I got home and checked my cookbook, in the glossary, right there:  ASAFOETIDA (HEENG).

Moral:  India's a big goddamn country.  With good food.  Also, asafoetida is so powerful that you have to wrap the little jar in foil and put it in a plastic bag, lest your whole spice cabinet reek of it.

I never got garlic and onion from Asafoetida. I always got "gnarly fermented yak sweat mixed with Ganges water".

I think the word "fetid" has everything to do with the word "Asafoetida". It's a pretty strong component of Ayurvedic medicine, though - it sure seems like it ought to be able to cure something. And yeah, definitely dedicate an airtight container to the asafoetida.

I can't tell what's going on with your wasp friend there.  I can see that it is a photo of a wasp... probably in a car...  My monitor on it's brightest setting is pretty dim though.

What you are looking at there Side Show is an ex Wasp.  He was given many opportunities to leave, but chose to spend the remainder of his days in the back window of my car.
