In answer to your actual question: I don't see why it wouldn't work on humans, I swear I got a reading before the cat scarpered.

Sweet, good to know.  Come to think of it, Ray's bartender was probably a cat rather than a human, so this actually answers the question I should have asked.  (I forgot they were cats.  It happens to the best of us.)

As for the some-guys-liking-dumb-girls phenomenon, once in my life this conversation happened:

Math Girl:  You know what's lame?  Sometimes a guy will hit on me, and when he finds out I'm a math girl his first reaction is to be all, "Math, eh?  Well, I know a thing or two about math myself.  Probably more than you do, in fact, even though you're getting a degree in it and I'm not.  Maybe I could help you with your homework sometime."

Math Boy:  You think that's lame?  When girls hit on me and they find out I'm a math boy, their first reaction is to go, "Math?  Gee!  Math is hard!  I've got no head for figures!  Maybe you could help me with my homework sometime."

So it seems like for a lot of people, male and female, heterosexual courtship means putting on a performance called "girls are dumb, boys are much smarter"  I don't know if they drop the act once the relationship starts or if they keep it up indefinitely.

Also:  When I see models in magazines I am less annoyed by the fact that their bodies are photoshopped to be unreasonably thin, and more annoyed by the fact that their faces are photoshopped to look uniformly dumb.  They've all got that identical vacant "come hither" look, a look that says "I'm a non-player character who's programmed to want you."  So apparently someone out there looooves dumb as much as ray does, although I couldn't say whether it's the editors or the readers.

Things I have tried to work potato clocks on while younger:

Things that work:
A pool of coke
Potatoes, bananas, etc.

Things that don't:
Pillows
Cheese
Uncooked chicken
A lake

In answer to your actual question: I don't see why it wouldn't work on humans, I swear I got a reading before the cat scarpered.

This list is two entries shy of being "From the desk of Peter H. Cropes", also possible: Johnny Cash.

Men like dumb girls because getting your bone on shouldn't be such hard work.

I think it's true that dumb girls are easier to bang, but are they easier to date? A male friend of mine had an incredibly dumb girlfriend, and they were together for ages. He didn't even seem that happy with her whenever I saw them because they would have to actually interact, but maybe they were "happier" behind closed doors.
Personally, I don't think I could stand to go to all that trouble. I think it's possible for a chick to be so dumb that even sex doesn't justify spending time with her. It isn't too hard to find somebody to screw who is at least tolerable, especially if you're looking to date them as well.

I have seen very few statements I consider to be as can-worthy as this one.  Huzzah sir, you have accomplished great things.

I'll say "true that" to this.  Not that I was a swinging horn-dog when I was a single guy, but there was a time or two where I'd be chatting up someone at a club, or bar, or between classes or whatnot, thinking that it would be nice to knock boots and so forth and I'd come to realize the giddy dumb act wasn't an act.  Life's too short - sex is nice, but there are 23 other hours in the day and if I found someone tiresome in 15 minutes of conversation it would be a short trip to annoyance.

Pi puns optional?

No, pi puns MANDATORY.

Good ones, though. Not like "I know it's only three point one but it's all four you."

Good ones like I couldn't actually think of.

You think they are photoshopped? I always assumed they are highly trained professionals at not eating and at looking dumb. At least for the latter, how hard can it be?  I can't imagine it needs technological intervention.

yeah, for real.

the saddest thing, for me, is that one of the most intelligent girls I know is working in modeling. She is totally faking the dumb-face.

Well... I guess I see no real need to disabuse you of that notion.  I can confirm that in general Math Sex is exactly as hot as it sounds.

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about:

http://homepage.mac.com/gapodaca/digital/bikini/bikini2.html

http://www.glennferon.com/portfolio1/index.html

In some of these pictures the retouching only changes the color and lighting, but a lot of them take an already skinny model and make her stomach a bit more concave, or something like that.  Some of them make the women thinner while editing out their ribs, which is kind of amusing.  As for the faces it seems pretty typical to give the skin a homogenous orange glow, make the eyes sparkle and saturate the colors in the makeup.  Sometimes it's harmless, but there are pictures in that second link where I feel like the alteration erased so much data from the original face that it really changed the expression.  I'm mostly thinking of images 03, 29, 34 and 39.

Creepy.  I guess they figure, ribs, what good are they except on a pig?

But another thing - anyone else think that many pictures of models don't just look dumb, they look like they are about to throw up?  I guess they are trying to look sexy?  Seriously, I know there are a lot of weird fetishes out there but...

Those sad/pouty faces really annoy me.  I like people happy, not all fake-brooding.  Blank expressions are better than trying to look all sad or angry or whatever it seems to be, but of course, a good smile is much better.  But then, you get into problems of gigantic fake smiles and all that, which are just ridiculous.  I guess, whenever you make a profession out of looking good, some kind of real spark gets lost.  And then of course, photoshopping every ounce of humanity out of it does not help either.
