I'm kinda with nded on this one.  Apple seems to make a good product, but the level of fan worship is pretty distasteful to me.  Look at that cartoon that started this conversation, the dude is basically having a summer romance with his cell phone.  We've established that the iphone doesn't have a pussy, but if it did, i'm pretty sure that dude would be fuck*ng it.  I own an ipod, but I don't think it's flawless and I don't think that all other mp3 players are useless junk

I think about getting a Mac all the time

Volkswagen owners are pretty much the same way so maybe you should make the switch.

I've noticed this too. And IIRC the bug was the first car to offer iPod integration as an option. Coincidence?

Although I am surprised that no other car that I've seen has windshield wipers that slow down when you come to a red light. Come on other car makers, this is a perfectly stealable idea. Also the air vents from a Toyota Celica circa 2001 are basically the platonic ideal of car air vents and need to be installed into all other cars right now.

This happens to me when I start trying to become a Linux user.  One moment I'm installing the latest Red Hat distribution on a freshly formatted hard drive partition, and the next I'm sitting in the rain on the side of the road outside Portland picking gravel out of my skin and wearing a torn dress.

I can give you a ride somewhere if you want.

I want an apple so much.

mostly because my computer has hell of issues for some reason. And a lot of them seem to be things where they did a bad job integrating the software with the hardware. Plus, garageband is so cool.

of course, next time I buy a computer, I will be buying a computer rather than being given one. So, it may be unlikely that I will spring for a Mac.

$600 dollars poorer is what it would feel like if I owned an iPhone.

...I think... I think I just realized why they made it cost that much.

I have a dubious view of the iphone. On the one hand it is a nice repackaging of things other phones have done before, but in a more expensive, less expandable format. Then one looks deeper to realize the technology is already out of date and apple has admitted that. Moslty im worried about the fact that apple thinks its no big jump to go from mp3 players to mobile communication. The cell phone market is crowded and extremely competitive, most phones are free or near free in a year after release or even new when one signs a contract. Apple has a tendency to wait years before lowering prices on anything.
I say my view is dubious because even while knowing all of this, I want one. really bad

So joughytrousers, did you get the $100 credit? Has your faith in Apple been restored?

Wow, A-CAP is basically wrong about everything.  They're fringe benefits, not French benefits, dude.

Anyway, yeah, I haven't gotten the credit yet because no one has.  I'm not sure I'm eligible since I paid $0 for my iPhone, but if all you have to do is enter a serial number then I'll sure as hell try to get the galactic credits anyway.

I can't say I'm surprised that they'd lower the price of the iPhone, and I'm not even surprised to hear people complaining about a price drop.  I'm just surprised they dropped the price so quickly.

The reason people are complaining of course is that it makes iPhone more affordable and accessible, and therefore less "elite" to own.  I'd be happy if everyone had an iPhone (although only because I make the internet and am making iPhone-centric apps) because someone else's phone makes mine no less awesome.  Also, larger market share (i.e. more success of the product) means faster lifecycles, faster improvements, and a better product overall.

I thought the iPod 4G was about the perfect music player.  The iPod classic now bears that distinction.  The new "touch" and iPhone are more specialty convergence products, although now that even the lower end iPods play video it won't be long before every iPod is a convergence product of some kind or another and people will just expect their walkmans to get the internet.

Actually i was only wrong about the price drop. The iphone still lacks any kind of expandability and it will always be a 2G phone in a 3G world.

I despise having a cell phone to begin with...

Do I really need more ways for people to track me down anywhere at any time?

Isn't it bad enough they can already hail me by voice or crappy text message?

I have to feel guilty for not responding to e-mail EVERYWHERE and AT ALL TIMES now?

Feh on that.

but what if some lady just realized what a great catch you are and wants to have all kinds of crazy sex... and you were too much of luddite to get back to her in time? Lives are at stake here, dude. Lives of ladies who want to snuggle you.

I refused to have a cell phone for the longest time before the lady bought one for me. I imagine this is similar to the way you buy a collar and a microchip for a dog that tends to get out of your yard a lot. I have since rebelled by having the crappiest most unreliable phones ever.
I miss my ipod though and I having a sexy little piece of internet in my hand is tasty so I am waiting for the iphone to make it down here and then... we shall see.
