All silly plots aside, I figure if I'm there I'd like to see if I can bend an elbow with the dude.

is this regional slang, or am i just not hip enough to know it?

It means to have a drink with someone, bending the arm to bring the drink to mouth, yeah?

I think it's not so much regional as slightly archaic.

But still very charming. Though I suppose it could be taken in a few different ways, which might be why it's archaic.

Yeah.

I suppose that it could reference a hand-job, these days.

When I thought of what "bend an elbow" meant, I was not thinking of a hand job. I was thinking of walking arm-in-arm.

I thought maybe it was a roundabout way of referring to arm-wrestling.

Pretty clearly bend an elbow means shank someone with a Popsicle stick.

the Bay Area is so gorgeous. Oh my gosh. I am realizing that although I like St Louis, it is not a pretty city, mostly. Berkeley/Bay Area is like some sort of magical dreamland with pretty hills and too-expensive too-crowded houses.

Berkeley is awesome, but I think I might not like formal linguistics very much. Luckily most of my classes are more on the socio-linguistic side of things. Taking two classes with guys who write for Language Log, which is a cool blog about linguistics.

Yesterday we tried to go see Annie Hall in a park, only to get there and find out it was cancelled. Then rode BART down to the south side of the bay (I do not know what this area was called) and met a friend and rented the movie. Then I misread the BART schedule and we missed the last train, so we slept on my friend's couches. YEAH!

Today, I'm gonna try to find a cool bar to go to in the area. One where I can do the whole "meeting friends other than my roommate" thing.

Murder plots aside, if you're in my town, let me know via PM and I'll totally let you buy me a beer.

We are planning a Mt Diablo trip, as well as a picnic with my small cousins/aunt/uncle in Muir Woods.

Man inev, you're making me miss the Bay Area. I used to live in the Mountain View/Sunnyvale area.

I was up in Berkeley a couple of weeks ago.  I shot my flamethrower all over that town.  The kids loved it.

Another night in the continuing saga of having completely lost all tolerance for alcohol. What happened?? I drank 2 beers with dinner and proceeded to be very silly while at a friend's house with her parents, her parent's friends, etc.

Not like I was super-drunk. I don't know if they picked up on what was going on. I was just... mildly incoherent as a conversation partner.

I also made a joke about c*ckes to my friend's dad. He loved it, but, you know... risky.

What is the deal with this? I haven't lost any weight or anything... and suddenly even thinking about a beer makes me start stumbling over myself. Psychosomatic? How do I fix this?
