So I'm going to have to bring this up?

Really?

Wait, so did you not realize that such a job existed? Or do you think the name is silly and we should just call them beauticians? Because I didn't even blink when I read that. HELP ME UNDERSTAND.

My mental picture of JL did not include a 'stache that required threading.  Updating...

There isn't one.  Because I get it threaded, of course.

Please don't start thinking of me as a mustachioed lady. I had a very hairy grandmother, I'm kind of sensitive about it so I keep that shit handled.

I guess more the latter but then also if such a job did exist that is not what I would have expected it to be. I would imagine hiring an aesthetician to involve an Oscar Wildian fellow coming into your house and making sure you had a room where everything was pristine white with a single fresh red rose on a centre table. Which I guess is kind of what they are doing, metaphorically.

Many of my coworkers are from India.  There is some significant fraction of the ladies that are hirsute.  That has kind of reset my notions of female hairiness.

yeah, I see a lot of hairy ladies at work who ain't even care about it.

going to a very Aryan southern school, I thought I was a hairy guy. Then I came to college and lived with Italian and Jewish dudes and realized that I am pretty un-hairy.

have I told you guys about the chick who, when all the clothes came off, said "you're a lot less hairy than I thought you would be?" That lingered with me even though I don't know what I think about it.

Tonight I went to a bar with college-aged friends and drank pitchers of beer. Talked about looking for jobs, beer, the city, etc. I only had one beer over the several hours, and then drove home in the heat with the windows open listening to this album that I think you guys would like. This track has a laid-back vibe going on that I am really into lately.

going to a very Aryan southern school

I was going to comment on how that word doesn't mean what I always thought it meant (and how it's usually used these days) but then it occurred to me if anyone here would know it's correct meaning automatically it would be the anthropology major and then I got confused about whether maybe you went to an indo-Iranian southern school.

I would give you a thousand cans for this but I guess some would find that not tasteful.

Really, an Oscar Wilde-ian aesthetician would say cutting, passive aggressive things about your appearance in a playfully bemused, lyrical tone, and would leave you wondering if he adores you or hates you.  Make you wonder if the hair cut he just gave you was a back handed joke his inner circle could snicker at or something that truly "flatters your frame."

I was once in an Oscar Wilde play (A Woman of No Importance) where the central actor didn't get the main overarching theme of underlying homoeroticism in the play. The director seemed to be dancing around it and didn't want to come out and directly explain it to him, so he asked me, and when I explained it to him he freaked out and didn't want to play the character anymore or at least didn't want to play the character as a homosexual.  It was a pretty embarrassing situation, which lead to a weird production where most of the double entendres were played as single entendres...  Cringe.

I am threaded. My Threading Lady was so funny -- she was being super nice, like she does, but basically said, "Don't wait so long between appointments, your eyebrows looked like crap." I said, "Poonam, you are too sweet. You've got to nag me more. Come right out and say it: 'Don't let your brows go like that, you're embarrassing me.'" She laughed. I booked another appointment for threading and a facial for mid-June.

I am working through a book that claims to be able to help you get your whole life organized and under control in one year. It has four weekly projects for each month, and each one takes anywhere from thirty minutes to eight hours to complete. They're balanced, so no month has more than one big, all-day project. This month's tasks are time management (getting your calendar under control and figuring out how you can spend more time doing the things you prefer) and kitchen organization.

This is the second week of calendaring, and since I already have a pretty good system for keeping track of things I *have* to do, I spent some time planning the next couple of month's worth of things I *want* to do. Danger Boy tracks out for three weeks next Friday, so I filled in some slots with some activities I'd like to do while I have him one-on-one in the mornings. And I penciled in some time for the next couple of organizing projects, like the big, six-hour purge of the kitchen that's supposed to happen two or three weeks from now.

This weekend, Pedro and a few other guys are tearing off the roof, repairing, and re-shingling it. Hooray!

Yeah, it's been leaking a while and we finally have the right combination of time, money, and manpower to replace it. We were going to pay a contractor to do it, but it was going to cost six grand, and by doing it ourselves we can do it for less than $2K. That's including renting a Dumpster for the take-off disposal.

We're only doing the lower half of our split-level; the upper isn't causing any problems so we're gonna let it sit another year or so. I hate to tear the place up twice, but we can't do the whole roof in a single day anyway, and since the upper isn't damaged I'd rather have a thousand dollars or so to spend on more pressing things, like yet another round of repairs for my van. (Just after we got it out of the shop for an oxygen sensor, the hatch latch snapped and now we can't open the cargo space -- which totally defeats the purpose of having a minivan.)

Wait, you're blowing the roof off the joint?

What, What?

To be more precise, they'll be tearing the roof off the mothersucker.

Yeah, I saw you were trying to do a thing but I am just too excited about the fact that we're finally, finally getting the roof fixed.

Unless it rains. 50% odds, weatherman sez. Fuck that noise.
